Latest NPD survey shows the same results as before, U.S. smartphone market is led by Android
0. phoneArena posted on 13 Dec 2011, 09:42
According to the NPD Group, from the beginning of the year through October, the U.S. smartphone market is owned by Android with 53% of the pie, followed by iOS with 29%; RIM remains third with 10% of the market which is a sharp drop from the 25% it owned last year...

When I saw it I thought iOS had a bigger growth, then realized that percentage in the arrow is over the same OS last year.
A little misleading (I´m not saying it was intentional). If a OS went from 1% to 2% they would have put a 100% arrow. But it would be an insignificant growth overall.

so 52% of american smart phones are flash enabled and growing. yup.. thats a dying platform alright.
well, % wise, WP7 is the big winner with a 100% gain (1% to 2%) :)
11. c.hack posted on 13 Dec 2011, 12:24 1 2
Not saying much since even Adobe is abandoning mobile Flash. That's like saying 52% of smart phones are virus enabled and have crippled battery life.

52% of Americans have phones that are slow, laggy, unstable, plus everything you just said. But of course, they don't take into account that there's an Android phone coming out all the time and the lower retention rate of Android phones lol.

Keep believing that Miz.

Between 3 people in my family, we've gone through 8 Android phones because they either break or the OS releases are so buggy the phones are unusable. The only phones that haven't been returned is the other 2 family members that have iPhones.
Next time - iPhone

Ouch... well me my brother my sister my dad and my girlfriend all have Android phones without that issue.
Maybe its user error. You should get an iPhone.

Miz, the iPhone is nothing special. I don't know why you praise it day after day. My GSII is not laggy at all, the screen is much more suitable than the 3.5in magnifying glass of the iPhone, it is much more lighter than the iPhone, thinner and has flash. Please back up your explanation of why you think the iPhone is sooooo much better than an Android.

can you show me where they are "abandoning" flash? thanks. They are "stoping further development on new platforms and not going past current release status" but they are still "supporting all current platforms with bugfixes and the like" Which not only supports Android, but Blackberry's upcomming QNX platform which is fully flash capable.
Flash is on the RISE for the next few years at minimum as android continues its climb and QNX starts to be sold. Flash enabled sets could easily top 70% of the smartphone marketplace if QNX sells well.
stop thinking like a fanboy and use your brain.

Dang it remixfa!! You almost paid WP a compliment. Right up to the end there. :D
Android is a versatile, fun, and mature OS. Even in the best case scenario, I see no way either my WP or iOS catches the Robot. It is just too much of a juggernaut. Not like Apple is worried - they only make enough cash to buy most of the eastern seaboard. Windows Phones is all about growth In 2012. No excuses. It is a great, enjoyable OS with good OEM support. Make it happen, Microsoft. Get aggressive!
RIM...... Nice knowing ya!

Dont count RIM out yet. business people are still used to BB and if they can hit QNX out of the park, it will be a last minute grand slam for them. Of course, if they botch it, its game over. So wait until QNX launches to see what happens with them.

There's this simple pattern. RIM eats Windows Mobile's lunch. Apple eats RIM's and WM's lunch. Android eats RIM's and WM's lunch. Now the question is will WP7 eat android's lunch? Apple has the most die hard, fanatical, loyal customer base so it will be tough to eat Apple's lunch. If I was a betting man, I wouldn't be surprised to see WP7 gain share at he expense of android within a year.
So will history repeat itself when a new OS supported by a tech giant joins the fray?

These predictions from you are amusing. First you claim that prepaid carriers will take over from postpaid carriers. Then you claim that in short order cheap phone manufacturers will take over from high end phone manufacturers. And now you claim that WP7 will take noticeable marketshare from Android within a year.
I mean, come on. Stop pretending to be a guru. You're talking out of your ass.

Well its about 50+ Android Phones against 3 iOS devices and about 5 Windows Phones. No wonder they are leading.
10. Dmann posted on 13 Dec 2011, 11:29 6 1
And about 20+ Android Tablets against iPad. Yet iPad dominates. See where your logic fails?

and if android was only on 3 phones say mmmmmm sgs,sgs II,and the nexus's
30. Dmann posted on 13 Dec 2011, 20:05 0 1
Then the situation would be 100% hypothetical.
I can't say what would happen.

At this rate at least RIM will be gone next year. The only people I see using RIM are forced to in our corporate office and hate it. Maybe is our dual CEOs?? lol
14. droiddomination posted on 13 Dec 2011, 12:39 1 0
it just makes sense really. if you take two people with common sense, and show the all the major os for mobile devices, they are going to go with android as soon as they realize how much you can do, and also how much control you have over a device that YOU paid for! not controll by the OS of the company! LONG LIVE THAT BEAUTIFUL GREEN MAN!!!

Are you talking about the virus writers that love Android because there is so much they can do and they have so many viruses in the Market on Android phones, or the poor suckers whose "open" phone reboots every day and is infested with malware?
