In the latest Kindle Fire commercial, Amazon points out how a Kindle Fire is much cheaper than an iPad, yet can do pretty much the same stuff. Also, a Kindle e-reader has an unbeatable outdoor visibility...

no idea what all this hating is about.
each product has its own merits. obviously functionality reflects on pricing. you want more stuff in one package, obviously it's gonna cost more.
those other high end Android tablets cost $500 and more too.
it's not just because of the hardware performance alone, but the build quality and the materials being used.
Those higher end products DO cost that much, unlike kindle fire with its cost only at $200 range.
they are for different consumers, duh, or else why do you think every kind of products has high and low end ones out in the market??
you think ipads and other high end android devices make $400 profit each piece??
grow up and stop hating like a 5 year old.....

that is not true in the least.
The kindle fire uses a good screen with a dual core OMAP chip inside it, which is actually slightly stronger than the Nvidia Tegra2 chip used in almost every android tablet. It is a little light on ram, but not by much. Other than lack of cameras, what hardware is it missing?
The kindle sells for 200 and costs about 200 to make, there is no profit on the device. The only profit Amazon makes is from software sales. The ipad and Galaxy10.1 both cost around 200 or so to make as well. They just have a higher price tag on them because they are being presented as "premium". .
Apple's profit margins are over 70% So that means out of a $600 ipad, $420 of that 600 is profit after all parts, labor, and research. If 70% is accurate, that means that the ipad costs them 180 bux to make all said and done. Thats actually CHEAPER than what it costs to make the fire by all reports.
education is a wonderful thing. :)

I agree. How else can they have close to $100 billion in the bank. Those guys in Cupertino make some of the most overrated products on the planet.

It's amazing how good apple is at selling their products. They're like the pied piper. They can MAKE people want their products not just because they work well, but also because they're seen as "premium" items or "must-haves".
I really believe that apple's a bit misclassified as a company. It's actually a luxury lifestyle brand (like LV, Ralph Lauren, Rolex, etc) that specializes in tech.

and ffbbwang, you asked "you think ipads and other high end android devices make $400 profit each piece??". my answer yes. at least to the ipads.

Comparing the two devices is a joke. Kindles are for readers. iPad's do a whole lot more and have a lot more apps.

u obviously missed the point where they pointed out the kindle fires the kids were using that are android tablets. What "more" does an ipad do that a kindle doesnt exactly? except take a picture. And for the money saved, i can get a pretty nice digital camera... or just use my phone. Who actually takes pictures with their tablet anyways? lol

What did society ever do without Apps? Take the app store away from the iPad, and the kindle fire will run circles around it. The kindle fire doesn't require apps to function. The ipad does.
I bought my Wife a Fire for Christmas. I was holding out for something different. However, I found my Wife's Fire so versatile, that I bought one for myself. Love the damn thing. Far less expensive and it gets me from point A to Point B without the Apple baggage.

The only thing worth taking here is the hot chick in that video. Talk about a bonerific moment.

i will say that movie quality on a kindle fire wouldnt be the same as an ipad (to me that's pretty important).
I'm in no way an apple fan, but i cant see myself buying 3 kindles even if it costs the same or less as 1 ipad.
in a small way they are comparing apples to oranges. you have limited apps and lack of 3g (or even 4g on other tablets). different strokes for different folks
try prying a kindle fire from you kids hands and tell me if they'll let you borrow it for 2 hours to watch a movie on it without them, or try watching a movie as a family on that screen :)
all i know? i hope the kindle fire makes some apple crisp

If this is true that the kindle fire can handle everything the ipad does for cheaper, I'd like to sell mine and by a couple of them! I just need to know first: can it edit video to make home movies? Make a presentation and run it on the projector through wifi? Record multitrack music and share the recorded music on bandcamp and email as mp3s? And can it make and edit documents and spreadsheets, while keeping those docs automatically in sync with my desktop? And stores all the photos I take with my phone automatically for editing?
If so I'd like two please.

and if you get Super Amoled Plus then don't need to worry about sunlight :)
and you have:
1) better resolution
2) sunlight colours
3) mass storage
4) democracy (no diktat)
5) better performance,...
