Latest Apple iPhone 6 leak purportedly shows another schematic, chassis mold and more

0. phoneArena 13 Apr 2014, 20:37 posted on

It is that time of the year when rumors about the next Apple iPhone start flooding out. Last year, the theme was plastic casings as many leaks revolved around the Apple iPhone 5c. This year's theme might be schematics. We recently showed you images of what allegedly was a schematic for the Apple iPhone 6, and today we have another leaked schematic, this time from a Sina Weibo account...

The phone mold in Picture 4 looks extra long to me.

The Iphone 5 is already stupidly long and narrow, this will probably be no different.

I think it is just that people are tired of Apple and its rumors - my wife has an iphone 5C - it is nothing special and rather plain in design for software and hardware...

I call BS. 3rd picture shows autoCAD 200x. Why would they design this with such an old version of autoCAD?

If it is true I love that they design some of this phone on Windows, list the details on Excel, and use an old version of autoCAD.

Those are screenshots from Foxconn, and they assemble more than just Apple products. I'm pretty sure Apple designs Apple hardware on Apple hardware, then just sends compatible files.

I understand that, but wouldn't Foxconn use updated CAD? I don't know either, just seems like they would. At least 2010? Dealing with file compatibility issues with clients is no fun.

Having worked in plenty of manufacturing environments, I'll bet that you would be shocked at the technological divide between design studios/engineering houses and the actual manufacturers. There's a reason so many companies are willing to pay MSFT big money to keep supporting XP.

Foxconn running XP doesn't surprise me at all. Them running such an old version of autoCAD would surprise me.

They are one of the largest manufacturing companies if I remember correctly. The only reason I could think is that they have so many computers to license that it's not financially viable. But that would still surprise me as well. More than likely they are just cheap bastards like many companies I've worked for.

I think you nailed it (Cheap). Our own government runs old software, so no surprise a company that really doesn't do any design work would, as well.

As usual, Apple is behind the times - I already have a 7 inch 'phablet' that fits nicely in my hands and in my front pocket...

Actually that's already happened this year, twice
The M8 and Z2 are the same tall as the Galxay Note
The S5 is also almost (~5 mm of) as tall as the Galaxy Note

The same tall?

Note (Samsung's phablet from 2011): 147 x 83 x 9.65 mm
Z2: 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2
M8: 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm
S5: 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm

The Z2 and M8 are as tall as the Galaxy Note, the S5 is 5 mm from being as tall as the Note
Luckily they are all a cm less wide compared to the Note, but they are still as tall as the Note, which IMO is too tall for a "phone"
