LG to examine its 2009 eye-tracking patents for infringement by the Samsung Galaxy S 4

0. phoneArena 19 Mar 2013, 08:08 posted on

LG is reportedly planning to examine whether the subsequent Samsung patents on the matter don't infringe on its portfolio, which Samsung, naturally, is said to deny with a passion. There are plenty of other overlaps in our opinion, like the Dual recording mode from the G Pro that we saw materializing as Dual video during the announcement of the Galaxy S 4 last week, so the story is bound to get better...

Do the research people, Samsung have their own hand and eye tracking patents (used in SGS3 and their TV line-up). I would suggest they've done their homework and will be in the clear so as not to repeat another Apple debarkle.

LG are becoming another Apple, struggling and squandering over their own misfortunes in the mobile industry

Yeah... watch out with the 'boomerang effect' LG, your 'superphone' LG Optimus G Pro = Samsung Galaxy Note II.

you cant deny the uniqueness of Sony designs.
even apple from which your Sammy copies is inspired by Sony and then LG copies Sammy which is a great copycat itself.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/07/27/apple-took-inspiration-from-sony-when-designing-the-iphone/
no one can deny that Sony is the pioneer of great designing.

bla3

we consumers just want to use a smartphone

anyway, i might get HTC one or Xpeia Z if the price here in the phil will b lower than galaxy s4..
but even though i myt hold htc one or XZ, i cant help but be amazed with samsung,,
sammy really knows how to make a phone really SMART, so those gimmicks are intended to raise the bar of a phone being SMART, ,
everyone is copying but THE BATTLE IS ABOUT WHO BRING IT FIRST or WHO BRING IT AT ITS BEST FORM AND FUNCTIONALITY

They should.lg is always underestimated.!lgs technology is much better than samsung though they are very slow in software updates..

not when played right. remember that samsung won against apple because it is viewed as the underdog. if lg plays the underdog role being deprived of sales and the technology it has created, it can win some sympathy. however, it can also lead some samsung customers to other android device makers like htc and sony.

Yeah, I'm with you there. The S3 had eye-tracking, yet LG did not make note of it then. I also find it funny that LG is launching an update to add some of the features this month. So they applied for a patent 4 years ago and still have yet to launch it on any of their handsets? Another example of the broken patent system. You shouldn't be able to patent an idea until you can provide a fulling working prototype. Having an idea is one thing but actually developing that idea into a fully functional feature is another.

when S3 came out with smart stay that uses eye tracking technology,,it uses the same principle as smart pause..Lg did not bother to complain...just saying....i guess everyone's feeling the heat......everytime a Samsung flagship device comes out, rumors follow thru..it only add's to the excitement....

Yes same eye tracking tech but now this is the exact same concept. It shows maturity that they didn't jump the gun until they felt that their concept was 100% copied.

before LG announced the optimus pro
samsung already filed some trademarks for smart pause etc
