Although it got surpassed by Xiaomi in terms of shipments during the previous quarter, a number of industry experts from distant South Korea claim that LG is still going to sell a record number of devices by the end of the year...

I wished LG would ass-kick Samsung this year to keep the competition water flowing, but they disappointed with their halfbaked G3.

G3 is a decent phone. I like the thin bezels.

It is a good phone with many features from the Android community's wish list. All these sales are stolen from Samsung's sales I assume. The more the Android pie gets equally spread the better, more competition and more value for consumers.

G3's display is its biggest flaw. Poor brightness, blacks that look greyish, horrible contrast etc. That's one thing. The battery life is downright poor and that's because of its inefficient display. Same goes for the performance, the needlessly high resolution had cost it poor framerate in games, overheating etc.
Display is all to blame.

doesnt matter dude, I want sammy shares to plummet this year just so they'll invest more money in R&D instead of marketing on GS6 - which hopefully wont suck so I can finally upgrade.
BTW, aside from the display, G3 is a beast and they deserve them profits for listening to the community.. htc for example doesnt, their phones are ridden with ultrapixel gimmicks, "hipsterecy" and bezels.

Sure they are listening to the community, that might be the reason why they refused to guarantee updates because they simply don't care about their costumers. Optimus 2X took over a year to get ICS and finished support there. Optimus 4X launched with ICS and only got 1 update to 4.1 and ended there while HTC updated the One X to 4.2 and Samsung updated the S3 to 4.3(some variants even got 4.4).
Optimus G is still on 4.1 on most of the world. They make great hardware no doubts but software support is way behind the other manufacturers.

Why did you leave the G2 out? Updated pretty quick.. The old saying "what have you done lately" rings true here. LG is doing great
25. CanYouSeeTheLight (Posts: 1100; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
What about the G Pro then? Early 2013 flagship that was stuck on 4.1 for over a year, and wow they updated one model "quickly" as the software was released in October 31 2013 and it arrived on international G2s in March 2014 so it wasn't that quick, not to mention they skipped 4.3 altogether.

that doesn't matter, gimmicks do sell, but the design was the big + factor, average consumer doesn't care so much on in-depth specification, as long it is pleasing to the eye, and smooth to operate, it will sell. Besides they are all android, the only difference on the average person's eye are the Gimmicky specs, and design, large percentage of consumer are not pros, so this is basic mindset of average consumer. was the marketing of LG, they are advertising LG the tips on how to use your LG G3, and so consumer feel familiar on product, that's one factor on marketing, you advertise how to use your product, so consumer is not afraid on being confused or alienated on their own device when they buy your product

lg g3 is a laggy batterie sucker.. no chance against the real flaggship of samsung the galaxy note 4..
16. thunder18 (Posts: 121; Member since: 06 Aug 2009)
It's not supposed to compete with the Note 4. It competes with the Galaxy S5. If you're looking for a Note 4 competitor, then look for the G Pro.

Umm... isn't there supposed to be something after that "Pro" word? Like a number?

stupid haters, noobs and some paid reviewers won

Halfbaked?!?!?! They took all the complaints about the G2 and addressed them and more.
Latest available processor...Check
Non-glossy plastic body...Check
Bigger screen while keeping the size of the phone in check...Check (subjective if you don't like big displays I suppose)
Innovative and improved Knock-on/Knock code...Check
First major manufacturer with a QHD display...Check
What part of it was halfbaked?
23. CanYouSeeTheLight (Posts: 1100; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
The part that the display has laughable contrast, brightness and consumes a lot of power. It also makes the phone work more for the same workloads resulting in less battery, more throttling and overall lower performance. Regressed on screen gaming performance over the G2 too, just check gfxbench and compare both (on screen results are indicative of real world performance). See long term performance results, 23 fps for G2 and 12 fps for G3 which only shows it is indeed throttling more than the G2.

14hrs on a single charge with 3 1/2 hrs of screen on time with 22% battery life left, and that's terrible? That's better than my S5 used to get if I remember correctly. Still no over heating issues unless I'm shooting consecutive 4k video. 90% brightness has been good enough for me on a bright sunny day.
11. bucky (Posts: 2082; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
I don't think 3.5 hours of on screen is very good at all. Or am I wrong here?
15. thunder18 (Posts: 121; Member since: 06 Aug 2009)
Note that he did say he still had 22% battery life left. That's nearly a quarter of the battery life left. My experience is over 5 hours on screen time before hitting about 5% at the end of the day. I willingly admit I use auto-brightness as my default setting with the slider set at 50% to limt how dim the screen gets, but it's plenty bright enough outside.
12. StraightEdgeNexus (Posts: 3683; Member since: 14 Feb 2014)
The standby is great. The on screen performance is poor. 3.1/5 hrs is quite a lame score.
13. Freecableguy (Posts: 42; Member since: 21 Jul 2014)
Same here. In fact I usualmente get more than 4 or 4 1/2 hours screen on time, much better than some people who havent used the phone said it would last. If you believe the Samsung fanboys then everything thats not a S5 is crap ... but reviews and sales show otherwise. Coming from an S4 this is an all around improvement, yes, even the display. And I know quite a few people who upgraded from iphones, S5 and m8 and didnt regret.. People should actually use these phones and then decide instead of posting crap on internet forums...
30. gaara6775 (Posts: 738; Member since: 20 May 2014)
That's still poor. You should get over 6hrs of screen time but you will get around 5hrs of screen on time which is similar to my M7 which has only 2300mah battery.

Ofcourse they'll have increased sales, stupid Samsung knock offs !
19. BobbyDigital (Posts: 1148; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Exactly how is the G3 a knock off of any current Samsung?
Maybe you meant to say that "LG is that stupid company that's about to knock Samsung off". Like Xiaomi is doing.
There. I fixed it for you.
28. hurrycanger (Posts: 1517; Member since: 01 Dec 2013)
Haha, I'm not so sure if LG is about to knock Samsung off, but I can't see how the G3 is a knock off of any current Samsung. From the outside, it looks awesome and very very different from Samsung's flagships.
18. BobbyDigital (Posts: 1148; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Why is it that Samsung fanboys always troll LG articles? Instead of trolling, you guys should be worried about why your favorite company is getting dethroned in certain markets. The G3 is a great phone. Period. You Samboys feel if it isn't a Samsung device that it sucks. Which is certainly your opinion and you're entitled it. Even if you're wrong. The only reason I dislike Samsung now is because of all of you Samboy fanatics.
Have a G2 now and will definitely be upgrading to the G3 shortly. My friend has one and let me hold it for a week(he also has a M8). I found no lag and no problems whatsoever. The phone is phenomenal in my opinion.
20. Brosepower (Posts: 35; Member since: 21 Apr 2014)
Agree 100%. I also had the G2 and I have the G3 now. Its an upgrade in every sense of the word.
