LG Optimus Vu is now officially U.S. bound, 5 inch screen and all; 500,000 units sold in South Korea

With a boxy 4:3 aspect ratio on its 5 inch display, the LG Optimus Vu doesn't resemble the Samsung GALAXY Note although it might be considered a competitor to the Samsung GALAXY Note in the phablet category; LG has listed the U.S. as one of the destinations for the device...

Not to mention its only .2 inches bigger than my Samsung galaxy s3 it would be pointless for people with the sg3 to get this leaving only people that did not want the sg3 wich I doubt would want the lg if they don't like the Samsung. This phone is I think the wrong size under powered and coming about six months too late to be have that many sales. I think it will do poorly on Verizon. Unless off contract price is really good. Maybe a low subsudized price may grab some people also.

true true. and that aspect ratio made it look like a square device. Making it hard to put on your pocket.

If its price low it might do well. I am thinking $99-179. Since its LG.

I honestly think that could be it's only saving grace. At our store the only LG that sells well is the Lucid and that's only because it's cheap. The Revolution and the Spectrum never really sold that well here.

Samsung Galaxy S3 has 2100mAh battery and 4.8" HD SAMOLED Plus display 315ppi, LG Optimus VU has 2080mAh battery and 5" display 256ppi not too big like Galaxy Note 5.5". LG Optimus VU should be a budget smartphone with this low specs.

I have the note for the past 4month's, and loving it!
LG vu is underpowerd and slightly low specs. Doesn't
interest me, but for other's it might?

LG made yet another mistake by releasing a device in its home place first before bringing it here. Although I understand the need to feel the market first, if you release it around the same time as everyone else, you maximize your chance at revenue. Granted it could pick up users who are dying for one on Verizon but with the Note 2 around the corner, that might be short lived.
On another note, these phablets are peeking my interest so much that i might grab one of these instead of a phone. And from the looks of it, my choices will probably be between HTC, Samsung, and LG

First, you have to wonder what LG designers were thinking when thinking it was a good idea to use a 4:3 for a 5" display phone. It may make sense for a tablet but not for a phone that needs to be slim enough to hold without being awkward. Second, what is Verizon thinking bringing previous generation phone over to break their way into the phablet waters? Especially when AT&T will be releasing the Note 2 around the same time. It's what you would expect from a local carrier not a jaugernaut. And, I'll give 2:1 odds it will have a $200 price tag as the carriers only phablet option. Hopefully rumors hold true that it will shortly be followed by the HTC phablet dropping this to a budget friendly (although poorly designed) option. I'm excited about the emerging phablet category to suffice as a single all around go to tablet but this certainly is not it. What manufacturers should focus on to spring atop of Samsung's Note is a durable edge to edge display along with current generation tech.
