I hate Sprint's rebates. I love their plans and phones but they're too high. There is almost a rebate for every phone that's not free. i loved the promotion sprint had a few months ago where all MIRs became instant... that should be permanent. Rebates are evil!

The reason they dont do instant rebate is because they lose that much more money every time a customer shuts their service off.

Just go to Best Buy, Radio Shack, or a handful of others that make the rebates instant. I hate that about Sprint too, but their service is cheaper and better than AT&T, who I bailed on 6 months ago. I'm very seriously considering the Optimus for my wife and perhaps to replace my Hero. The Epic is my choice, but the additional $10 per month and the $249 price tag is ridiculous.

I had the Epic and loved it except for the battery life and price. Both the initial price and $10 fee bugged me. I ended up returning it inside of the 30 day period and getting the Optimus S. This is a great little phone, you don't have the highest end experience you get with the Epic, but it has definitely made me a satisfied Sprint customer.
