We ran quickly the browser on the LG Optimus 2X against the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S to try and determine what good is dual-core for browsing...

They should of made the test on 3G not wifi then I bet that's were the iPhone would lose cuz we all kno atts 3G network sucks

I hope that moron from the Lg Optimus hands on article comes and reads this. "still cant touch iphone 4".
... you're right, it cant touch it cause its too far ahead.

The camera performance was a bit disappointing from the other report here, but browsing looks pretty good on 2X assuming they were all connected to the same WiFi source. Where is there no mention of carrier for 2X in U.S? Did the reviewer go over to U.K to get hands on it?
9. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
The supposed carrier is Tmobile. Dont know whats wrong with their galaxyS, but my vibrant loads pages with flash or not in seconds and zips around like butter on a hot pan.

so, even with a dual core processor, the LG Optimus X browser is 'on par' with the single core processor of the iPhone...that's pretty disappointing...the Optimus X's browser should be blowing the iPhone's browser out of the water, not be 'on par' with the iPhone...so, the only thing the Optimus X actually beats the iPhone in is Adobe Flash? disappointing....
6. DJLegacy2k5 (Posts: 212; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
It's not "ON PAR" with the iPhone, it's just BIASED iPhone slurping by Phone Arena. Ive been a manager selling phones for multiple carriers for 9 years now and can't seem to figure out why people water down the facts to make cell phones a popularity contest and use opinions instead of hard evidence when basing their articles and comments. The benchmarks on this phone blew the iPhone's numbers out of the water. Im also sure it wont have attena issues, dropped calls, poor sound quality, and is obviously going to be based on more than just menus of shortcuts. Also you will be able to insure this phone and the basics are covered. The insane amount of iPhone slurping going on around here obviously goes to show that either most of this site is biased or just uneducated and lacking in common sense, you know, just like most americans now adays...
17. E.N. (Posts: 2577; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
I agree that there are many biased reviews, but I don't really think that this review was biased. The guy took the iphone out of the picture when doing flash comparisons and that was kind of a slap in the face. One moment the iPhone is there, and a second later its gone. I thought that was pretty funny, I don't know about you.
And the iPhone did great. It was on par. Yes it's lacking flash but its still a really really great browser and you can see that perfectly in the video. This phone was released 7 months ago and it's still doing well, I think it deserves some props. I don't really know what antenna issues and poor sound quality has to do with browsers, but it has been mentioned everywhere many many many many times throughout last year. Even on television.

I like the last sentense!

there is something I always hate when they do this browser comparison flash is know for using more processor and memory when running(its the price to pay for more desktop like experience) so i think the iPhone 4 has no problem since it wont load flash.... now i would like to see them on a comparison with no flash on...
I personally think that two videos should be issue for the testing, one with flash on and one with flash off to offer both perspectives(and look less biased) just like the comparison of cameras you did with all phones and used two modes with the iPhone
10. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
i think the iphone browser comparisons should just stop, since the android browsers load flash video and regular without issue or compromise, its an auto win. turning off flash would be a fair test, but what is the point of that? who can load the page from 1997 the fastest? nah, most pages now adays have some sort of flash. if the browser cant hang, it shouldnt be included in the test.
the ability to pull data is hampered by their connection, not the phones. Maybe they should run a higher speed wifi? in terms of browser renderings, none are a slouch but the tegra2 has already proven to be lightning fast and the fastest of the bunch in previous tests. i dont really get what this contest is trying to show?
12. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
thumbs up for this comment
browsers wont work the same way
-iPhone has no flash
-iPhone Loads pages smoothly
-Android Offers desktop like experience out of the box
comparing both = fail
15. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Android users brag to no end about flash but you complain when it slows down your phone.
Android's web browser is only more desktop b/c of flash otherwise iOS is just as good.
16. E.N. (Posts: 2577; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
I completely agree. Flash is the only thing that Android's web browser has and that's only because Apple denied it and not because Android is so magically amazing and far ahead. I feel like other than flash, mobile safari is a much much better web browser.
25. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
EN, what you feel is irrelavent. mobile safari is indeed a good browser, but feelings aside, it is not nearly as capable as other offerings out there.
my vibrant doesnt slow down one bit on a flash heavy page. there is no extra lag and no choppiness, and i can flip back n forth from full screen media viewing to on page media viewing without hitch. I also use Dolphin HD browser, which runs better than the stock browser and only pulls full pages, no mobile pages.
if both browsers run equally smooth on most pages, but one browser can run a system crushing app like adobe flash without hitch, that browser is clearly the winner.
anything else is just fanboy bias.
28. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
Don't give me that bs I have a Droid X and no browser I use is anything near as smooth as Safari.
And if one OS needs a replacement browser to be comparable to a stock browser of another OS (Safari), then that stock browser is clearly the winner
Anything else is just fanboy bias.
P.s did you see the Galaxy S' crappy performance in the video?
30. remixfa. (unregistered)
no offence, but the droidX is not nearly as capable as a GalaxyS. The DroidX is a standard snapdragon processor. The galaxyS and Iphone4 both run hummingbird processors that run circles around a snapdragon. Big Circles. lol.
The galaxyS actually has a slightly newer version of the humminbird that gives it an advantage over the iphone4. Neither is a slouch in the power department though.
And i mentioned DolphinHD because its there. the regular browser is just as fast, i just happen to like the setup on dolphin for tabs n such better.
there is clearly an issue with the galaxyS in this video, as mine like i stated runs smooth and quick. Unfortunately I have no iphone users in my group to show a real side by side test with a properly running galaxyS phone.
39. leep92 (unregistered)
You obviousy misinformed. For one, the Droid X doesn't run a snapdragon processor. For two, the multimedia experience on the Droid X is better than that of the galaxy s line. Where do you get the idea that the hummingbird is faster and runs such "Big Circles" around a snapdragon? Have you ever compared the benchmark scores? Tbolt and Mtouch 1900-200 G2 Evo Shift Nexus One Incredible 1400-1500. Galaxy S line 800-900.
23. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
I'm not saying I complain about it slowing the phone down I'm just saying comparing two things that work in different ways its not that good either... I'm not saying that safari is a bad browser, it is indeed a great browser. now i think phonearena might need to do some testing on pages that have no flash on them and say "this is how they both work on a non flash page. this is how they work on a flash page"
create a blog aka "test blog"
-load it with pictures text and HTML5 content
-test both phones on that page
-test both phones on phonarenas page as always
now do comparison with the two of them on both pages
that would be more nice and fairly accurate
27. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
What!? No. Its accurate with or with out flash because flash is apart of Androids browser now. Why should they have to do all of that just to accommodate flash. In real life people are going to keep flash on their phone (because they brag about it so much) so why cant it be kept in tests?
32. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
Well then you are right! the Android browser wins because its shows flash! In the end I guess its gonna matter cuz "it's not what apple says its the internet, it's the internet and it has flash", happy now?
Its what I've been saying you cannot just compare them as equal, cuz they aren't... that simple,
Now how much different can things be? Or how much this so called "vs" can go?
This Is an example of a more neutral idea
36. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
So your saying flash DOES have a negative performance on web browsing?
The link means nothing there are hundreds of speed tests on youtube all with different results. The Galaxy S in this video got beat by the iPhone so how do you explain that?
37. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
1. you can't gain something unless you are willing to give something in exchange...
2. I don't want to mean the galaxy s is better all I want to say is that that way should be the way to present any smack down of features on different phones rather that staying on a page and saying "this scrolls perfect, this scrolls even better" is there something better than perfect?
38. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
That was my point in the first place. You cant say oh yay I have flash and Apple doesn't and then for the comparison say no fair flash is slowing my phone down. In real life experience you many be able to use flash when you chose or turn it off completely the the fact is that when the browser has flash content the iPhone will probably be faster, and if it doesn't the android usually comes out on top.
41. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
ok ok i think we have being on a violent agreement here.
now read the article then see the video. personally do you like how they both end up sounding different?
19. Dennis (unregistered)
Apple is extremely good at software and marketing, thats why they are successful!
2x comparing both= fail
11. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Iphone4 that's over 7 months old, vs optimus 2x that's not even released, lol. Yet, the iphone4 did pretty well still. Iphone rules.
21. whyareiphoneusersidiots (unregistered)
After browsing this site for over a year I have come to a conclusion: iphone users have a stick up their ass. I mean seriously, they can never admit that another phone has something theirs doesn't. And they always seem to think that they have the superior phone. I like Android, because there is no "superior" phone in the Android world. Just phones that market to people's tastes (there is the high performance ones like the droid x or the samsung galaxy and then there are the middle ranged ones for people who don't really care for the specs and then they come in many different form factors and sizes). Heck, Android also competes with WP7 and I think even Android users can admit the nice features of a WP7 phone (for instance I wish android had a phone with speakers like the HTC surround). So, it just baffles me that iphone people are so full of themselves that they can't admit there is something else out there that may be better in some areas that the iphone doesn't excel in. I'm sorry but that says a whole lot about your personality.
22. bucky (Posts: 2038; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
actually from my understanding MOST of you nerds on android are the ones constantly bashing and hating and fighting amongst yourselves!
I dont really see more iphone fanboys than android in this comment section...do you?
For the record, 530gemini kinda made a good point, no?
24. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
well the same is going to happen when the iP5 comes out, its gonna be compared with the other current flash grip devices...
29. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
It's ok that a phone that came out almost a year ago is spanking the pants off of a phone with a dual processor and hasn't even come out yet. Lol it has a dual fucking core processor!! That should at least pick up the slack from flash.
33. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
Spanking the pants? You know the os is older that the current version of iOS? Plus its not fully optimized for dual core, if it's the stock browser them its probably not even using it, you may seen better performance because the system may be using the dual core... now everyone talks about processor, but what about ram? You can have 20 Cores buy if you are using 512 or less dont expect much… dual cores should get at least 768mb…
35. iwebdroidberry7 (Posts: 230; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
Lol so you saying Android has hardware that you fanboys brag about to no end, but you cant even use that hardware yet? And we all know how long it takes for even the high end android phones to get updates.
42. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
sorry if i miss my punctuation sometimes... but let me have this cleared I hope
-Any current mobile OS will need to be optimized to even get it loaded on dual core so this means LG has done its work
- when i talk about the android 2.2 im talking more about stock apps, even if the OS works with dual core, an app not optimized for it wont use the dual core, but work anyways on the phone as if it has a single core... why do we see better "performance" on the browser, because while the browser uses one core the system will use the other
-will this mean you bought a useless phone? no apps that will work with dual core (market apps) will do a great work
-why do we want support for dualcore within the stock version of android? because the apps that come with stock may not be optimized for dual core having its support, will be a win plus its less development for any company that wants to run android on dual core
i hope this clears everything

Couldn't agree more bucky. Out of all the fans I see, the Android fans are the worse. And it's on ANY mobile news website you can find. Come on now, ya'll gotta get it together...
14. ps1001 (Posts: 65; Member since: 14 Dec 2010)
i'm so buyin this LG- if needed gonna sell all my old socks even... As for i4- that aint too bad fone(though with flaws) but except higher res-display, all other specs and as i saw in the tests here, point that 2x is just 2xi4!! I think that, since i read also here bout samsug sellin more chips to apple, that even when i5 comes out in the summer, its gonna have 2x1GHz, and this tegra is 2x1.2GHz... Maybe when i5 has a better, more user-related ios5, better graphics than i4 and steve-boy out of the picture, applez will end long, self-imposed, tyranny for them-selves and the end-users... Their products r good zhit, but z soul is trapped in the underworld, which is bad...
So, time will tell if 2x can kick sammys s2 azz!! That is the real battle this year...
26. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
trying to make sence of your comment.
as far as the tegra2 vs orion (sammy's galaxyS 2 chip), the orion is still the specs leader. Tegra 3 is supposed to be out by fall, and thats when the real fight will begin. Since apple is going to continue to get their chips from samsung, i would assume they will be getting a downgraded orion chipset, much like they are using a downgraded hummingbird chipset now.

the vibrant update official is downloaded through Mini Kies. The unofficials have been availible quite some time through XDA.

why is there a time difference on the galaxy then the others

Motorola Atrix beats them hands down. I tried loading the same website and it is INSTANT browsing, very happy with that.
