LG Octane dummy units hit Verizon stores
A few days ago we informed you that both the LG Octane VN530 and Pantech Crux CDM8999 are expected to be released by Verizon next week on October 28th. Today we were sent an image of an LG Octane dummy unit that has shown up at a Verizon store. As many of you know, the dummy units typically appear a week before the phone is released, so this is good news that the 10/28 date will happen. The LG Octane is taking over from the LG enV3 (similar to an enV4) as it will have the familiar clamshell form factor, with a 220x176 pixel external display that is said to be a bit larger and more functional than the one on the enV3. On the inside of the Octane is 320x240 QVGA display with stereo speakers on the sides and a full QWERTY keyboard on the bottom. Other features include a 3.2MP camera with LED flash, 2.5 mm headset jack, Bluetooth, microUSB port, and can accept microSDHC memory cards up to 32GB in size. On the software side, it includes Skype Mobile, Bing Search, and a document viewer for Microsoft Office (doc, xls, ppt) and Adobe pdf files.

Thanks to a friend for the info and pic!

Wrote to u yesterday. I see the LG Octane looks like the env 3 that it's replacing. It does not look like a touch screen. Am I correct? I will upgrade to this from my LG Chocolate 3 as soon as it is in the Verizon stores. Can't wait. Sara in Lower East Side-NY

the photo is of the pantech crux not lg octane

This is obviously the LG octane since there are LG logos all over it, not one Pantech one. The Crux will be a slider and have a touch, not a clamshell and a physical T9 keypad.

What color is that? It's like an ugly reddish brown. Nasty.

Or get a black cover on ebay. Did that with my Env2.

The color? Bad. The name? Worse. I know that no one wants to have a phone called "enV4" but come on...

haha yeah we dont need anymore maroon phones lg. the name sounds kind of like octomom. but i'd consider getting this phone if it came in a more attrcive color

Env3 needs a data plan of 10 bucks or more...will this phone need that as well?

zorin, verizon is supposed to come out with new data plans in a few days. check previous posts

Since Verizon is eliminating the multimedia category (although phones that are still in that category will require the data package until supplies are deleted i.e. enV3, Alias 2 and others) so this phone won't require it. Reps are still gonna recommend that data package but it won't be mandatory. Hope that helps.

Octane has been stocked in stores for over week now...not just a dummy unit and not available to the public yet. Playing with the phone it is a piece (like most typical multimedia phones). External keypad is small and not an easy push as with previous models. Flip is a bit hard to open with rounded edges. The color is misleading in these photos...it is more of a dull chrome finish. All in all I guess will be an alright phone but sure eventually will have a high return rate due to improper use and the recent lack of LG quality.

I've called Verizon stores & their '611' #. No one knows anything about the LG Octone or the new data plans. The articles say this is a 'feature' phone. Therefore, there shouldn't be a 9.99 mo. chg. I also read that the 9.99 mo. fee will be dropped when the new data plans start. We'll just have to wait & see. I really want the LG Octane.
