LG GLIMMER – Alltel’s touch phone!
The LG GLIMMER’s main selling point is the combination of a large touch display (with haptic feedback - vibration) and a very well looking slim slider design, with metal parts. It is a CDMA/EV-DO phone (of course) with a 2-megapixel camera, a microSD slot and Stereo Bluetooth.
LG GLIMMER Specifications
Currently, there is no solid information about the release date of the GLIMMER, but the source says it may launch really soon, before the end of March. We will update you with more information ASAP!

yeah but its still on alltell's network which blows goat shaft.
2. Mitch (unregistered)
Can't say I have had any problems with goat shafts while using alltel's network.
3. Tiger (unregistered)
no matter what one thinks of the "goat shaft" of a network that is alltel's network, the phone is cdma and both sprint and verizon have an open networking allowing other phones to be used ... keep that in mind
4. steviecrackberry (unregistered)
I keep seeing those stupid commericals but I dont see the service in the nyc area?
5. Raven (unregistered)
so does at&t , sprint/nextel is not the only company at this rodeo, remember ^.^

VERIZON HASN'T PASSED THAT OPEN USER AGREEMENT THROUGH YET. I WORK FOR VZW AND THAT WILL BE UPCOMING WITHIN MONTHS TO COME, UNLESS OF COURSE YOU KNOW A HACKER THAT KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING....WHICH WHEN IT COMES TO CELL PHONES...CANT SAY THAT I DO. THE PHONE LOOKS GREAT...BUT IF YOU'VE EVER HAD ALLTEL IN COLORADO WHICH IS A JOKE AND DOESNT EVEN WORK IN MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREAS...NOT EVEN DENVER, THATS JUST DOWNRIGHT RETARDED. THATS MY BEEF WITH ALLTEL. IF YOU DONT HAVE VERIZON IN COLORADO, MY EXPERIENCE IS THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS PISSED OFF AT THEIR SERVICE PROVIDERS. END OF STORY.

Interesting that the Verizon guy says that our service sucks in Denver, considering that in every major market that consumer reports compared both Alltel and Verizon, Alltel was the preferred carrier 68% of the time, an was ranked either 1st or second in all submarkets surveyed. From where do you draw your facts. We dont have to be in NYC, we're been kicking your ass for years, to the tune that we haven't heard all that buyout foolishness either. Or was it that you couldnt afford the $71.50 that TPG paid for us considering your stock was less than half of that. WOW!!

got the glimmer yesterday. awesome.best phone i've ever had. touch screen functions are pretty tight. scrolling down contacts can be a pain but all in all a great phone
why don't you just type in the first letter of the name on the keypad?

I have ued my Alltel phone all over ohio. I have taken it with me to NYC, Denver, all over Florida, Cali, Indiana and AZ. Never had an issue in any of those places. I had done the same with ATT and VZW but had issues with both. I will not even go down the path of my expirience with Sprint.

I was wondering if anyone knows if the glimmer would come to Verizon or if the new Open Handset thing (whatever it is) means that you can bring this phone over to Verizon.
11. kaibee (unregistered)
can you text on the touch screen?!?! does it have an actual keypad??
i have have the alltel glimmer for a few months now. yes you can type on the screen, and yes there is an actual keypad. either one works well for texting

I inguired about switching from Verizon to Alltels servie. I was informed by Alltel that they do not have a tower with in 70 miles of Denver or an Altel store anywhere around Denver. They also would not reccomend going with their service because they could not offer a good coverage area.
13. Chris (unregistered)
I have to disagree with #12 I live in Fort Collins which is a little over 60miles north of Denver and I get excellent service! The only down fall is the closet Alltel retail store is in Cheyenne, WY. Alltel by far has the best service and plans I have experienced compared to other companies
14. mike (unregistered)
I am no sure how you could disagree with #12's comments. I also live in Denver and inquired about Alltels service and was informed of the same thing. The Alltel rep informed me they they could not provide me with a local phone number and the closest tower was in Limon. They also informed me they they would not roccomend there service at this time. No one is saying Alltel has bad service, we are just expressing what Alltel has informed us.
15. Sprint (unregistered)
does the phone work with SPRINT

IF this is such a great phone how come it only comes in one carrier??...Will it ever be available in AT&Ts carrier?
It only comes in one carrier because alltel paid off verizon, just like how at&t paid off apple to have the iPhone exclusively with them for 2 years
Actually Attel isn't the only one with the phone. USCelllular has it too.
can you use the touch screen to text?
21. anonomous (unregistered)
yes u can it comes up with a regular keboard like the slide out one
can u dial with the touch screen?
19. froogle170 (unregistered)
You CAN text with the touchscreen

22. kd (unregistered)

just to let you know the lg Glimmer is also at vzw but it has a different name and for the record if vzw had such super greaet coverage area's why did they had to paid off alltel to offter a better coverage area explain that? i had vzw before but they plains suck and alltel has th best plans and they are cheaper then vzw and also they have my circle which u can infact call 10,15, or even 20 ppl on different networks which u can not do that wit vwz so verizon u aren't there yet LMAO!!

Does anyone know if there are any updates for making the ringer louder. The bad thing about this phone is you can't hear the ringer.
Ive about decided to return my phone for this specific reason!!!! I miss every one of my calls because you cant hear it ring! PLEASE if anyone knows a way to fix this let us know.
They’ve solved the issue of low ringing in the phone. Go to settings in your menu click on phone information, then to number 5 software update and in 5 minutes you have the problem solved.
to clear up the confusion. cell phone companies have to be categorized in one of two categories. either metropolitian or rural. Alltel is considered rural. therefore it works better in rural areas. however to provide the largest network they have teamed up with sprint (who is considered metro). Now wherever you go you will have coverage either through alltel's network or sprint. no other companies (eg. AT&T, Verizon, TMobile) that i am aware of ahve thought to team up with rural companies to provide a larger network. Alltel does provide awesome coverage. even though their selection of phones isn't the best... its worth it to have service everywhere you go
check out uscellular site u can get this phone on 1 of they plans
A PIECE of "JUNK". first it was the MP3 functions quit, Now the touch screen work when it wants to not when I need it. No way close to being an IPhone. Get a cheep phone you will be much more happier. I don't think I will ever buy a LG product.

i have this phone i love it but the touch screen is breaking i've had it since the end of may
33. anon (unregistered)
My wife and I both have had the Glimmer since it came out this spring. The touch screen can sometimes be a problem and doesn't work. I can push everything (while unlocked of course) and nothing will happen or I'll push a button and the wrong thing will come up. Her slider has become a problem and it delays when she opens it. She's lost some phone calls because it takes so long to answer after she opens it. It's becoming a pain with both problems.
How many songs will it hold?

I have had Alltel since 2000 previously had Verizon, my daughter has AT &T. I dont know where you live but Alltel far out performs those two networks. My daughters service is random to day the least, it goes in and out, after trying several different phones there is no mistake it is their network. Verizon did not have much of a coverage area though they claim to have the largest, I had no service areas in many locations. I have never had any problem with Alltel coverage area or service. The few issues I have had with them have been about equipment and they have been resolved with no major problems. I am about to renew my contract and am going to get the Glimmer. Will let ya'll know how it works for me. (Like anyone cares, LOL)
Ya'll know I meant to say "say" and not "day", right?
i have an razor and if i have pics and ringtones on it can i transfer them over to the glimmer?
