LG G3 to include fingerprint scanner?
0. phoneArena 26 Dec 2013, 12:22 posted on
The Apple iPhone 5s and the HTC One max might not be the only handsets on the market to wield a fingerprint scanner, if the latest rumor is true. A published report out of Korea on Thursday indicates that the follow-up to the powerhouse LG G2 will include a fingerprint scanner. The scanner is expected to be similar to the on the HTC phablet, which requires the user to swipe his finger over the sensor...

Aww come on! They can't be serious about this. Why not work on something more practical and useful. For example an even better OIS camera, better design etc. Apple has lost its charm. People dont wanna buy tiny toy iphones anymore. Android OEMs need not copy them. Not that fingerprint scanner was apples original idea either

Tiny toy iPhones huh? I'll take that over cheap plastic any day.
5. DEATHSTROKE9 (Posts: 399; Member since: 09 Nov 2013)
Really? So tell me how new your so called new iphone 5S is? Atleast LG doesnt sell the same phone twice in two years with different branding. LG G2 beats your expensive apple feature phone anyday.
16. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 10422; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
Funny thing is that two years from now people will still be talking about the 5S while the G2 will long be forgotten.
37. DEATHSTROKE9 (Posts: 399; Member since: 09 Nov 2013)
#MXYZPTLK how do know the lg g2 will be forgotten? Please provide an explanation. I starting hating the iphone once I figured it so incapable. You can playback 1080p video in full resolution on the G2. I wonder if you can do that on your 5S .... oops. The truth is ios will be forgotten in a few years. Android already has 80% marketshare.
47. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 10422; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
Look at how many android phones were EOL in the past after only a year or so while the 3GS continued to get support for nearly 3 years. Only reason android has significant market share is because you can find it on just about anything.
It wouldn't surprise me if they made cheap happy meal toys with a small or limited version of android. They already have $40 android tablets.
Your move kid.

LG G2 is currently the best... Iphone5s soon to be forgotten......

Mxy why even argue with someone, who's posts aren't making any sense. Posts 1 and 5, wreak of hate...c'mon man.
10. PapaSmurf (Posts: 10409; Member since: 14 May 2012)
Clearly his hate for Apple and the iPhone is to a point where bias and extreme hate is the first thing that is to be said. Kind of sad actually.
19. darkkjedii (Posts: 19348; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
The fact that iOS and iPhone, continue to do as well as it does ,in spite of the fact that android has blown up and become so huge is a testament to just how good the iPhone is if you actually think about it. Haters will hate though. I say just enjoy your device. +1 Smurf
46. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 10422; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
Exactly. iOS still continues to do well even though android has grown popular. Plus the 5C is carving a niche for itself.
15. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 10422; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
:-( I know. I felt like I de-aged a few years when I responded to him.

I am not making sense!!??? Get your head out of apples arse! Your comments are outrageous!

No, you aren't. Now take a chill pill and go to sleep.

You seem to be under the impression that nobody's buying iPhones. Get back to reality please.
21. ihavenoname (Posts: 1693; Member since: 18 Aug 2013)
Haters always be like: "Soon nobody will buy iPhone, next year Apple is doomed". Well, they have been like that since 2007, and every year they are wrong. Apple and iPhone are here to stay.
24. darkkjedii (Posts: 19348; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
It's just crazy to me how people want to see a company, and a great device like the iPhone disappear and stop being sold, and have the company close the doors and go out of business for good like some use TV sales shop or something like that. Really is the hate that bad?
25. tedkord (Posts: 9850; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
I don't want to see then out of business. I want to see them stop the legal douchebaggery and compete based on their products and not in the courtroom. Stop gaming the broken system. I really had hope that would happen when Jobs passed and Cook took over, but it hasn't.
28. darkkjedii (Posts: 19348; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
That post, I can and do respect. Heck I don't wanna see any business go down, or any phone go down either. The courtroom battles do need to stop, unless there's a genuine reason for it. Tech rocks +1 bro.

hey hey...look at all 'em fanboys on LG's thread....making all these noises. Does it mean LG's doing things right and getting noticed?
...ROCKIN' mah LG2', )
4. jellmoo (Posts: 1455; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
In all fairness, this was something Apple followed on as well. The only difference is that they did a pretty good job with it. I can only hope that LG does a better job than HTC did. Not that I'm particularly hopeful.

I know, right. Motorola should be flattered.

Just don't screw up and put it on the back of the phone.
11. jad.boutary (Posts: 107; Member since: 04 Sep 2013)
if you are implying on htc one max the back of the phone is the best place you should put a fingerprint because of its size ! I have one and I dont think that there is a better place and it is very comfortable
31. HASHTAG (unregistered)
I am not saying that I disagree with your claim, but I have watched a lot of reviewers saying that they hate the fingerprint scanner being on the back of the HTC Max.
48. jad.boutary (Posts: 107; Member since: 04 Sep 2013)
yes i watched them all before I bought mine.. and I was afraid to bought it because of these reviews but it turns out that when you get use to it, you can unlock your phone very smoothly

Motorola Atrix had everyone beat, and honestly after the first year it became stupid still loved the phone, but that feature had become more annoying than useful.
Still if they do or don't put it there G3 will beat iphone6 or Iphone5GS

Let's wait and see which companies add such a great feature to their phone (properly and practically) all because Apple did. Before anyone else says the FP scanner is pointless, stupid, gimmicy, etc, just remember that no one else added it earlier because 1) it wasn't a successful hit on the Atrix (not naming others because they weren't well known or popular), and 2) because they weren't Apple. Apple nearly perfected the use and placement of this common security feature (found on doors, work stations, hubs, phones). It would be smart for more companies to add this as well.
If the people in charge of designing and marketing (more to marketing than just throwing something on a billboard or over the air) thought the finger print scanner was a gimmic and pointless, they wouldn't be adding it to their flagships. I for one hope that more companies do add this feature. Until the hate filled fanboys have everyday experience with the Touch ID, only then will they bite their tounge. It's so simple, fast, easy, and fun to pull your phone out of your pocket and already have it unlocked before your eyes hit the screen.
If you do not like the feature on a device, either don't buy it, or disable it and use the numeric, alphabetic(?), or pattern password option. It's that simple lol.
23. tedkord (Posts: 9850; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
The fact that the Atrix wasn't a big seller doesn't change the fact that they did in fact do it two years before Apple and Apple copied the idea from them.

Did Mercedes copy Ford for having an engine?
27. Sauce (unregistered)
"Copy" is such a cliche word to use aggressively
30. darkkjedii (Posts: 19348; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Ted, I don't think apple copied the idea, as much as revived a failed feature. Moto simply implemented the feature horribly, and apple implemented it nearly flawlessly...nearly. Right into the home button, c'mon bro that was sweet.

I think next flagship will named as something same as lg optimus g pro, maybe LG G2 pro,
i think there will none OEM is stupid enough to make another MAJOR flagship to replace current flagship, when current flagship just announced for few months,
I think will release a phablet, which causing it make the best phablet for q1-q3,because most company are release normal size phone in early year,
Then Lg release another normal sized phone around late q3, but most of the oem release phablet around the time, again causing it make the best phone in the year,
if you follow all new about lg, you will understand what i say, this year lg already used this "strategy"
17. Joshing4fun (Posts: 1230; Member since: 13 Aug 2010)
Whats with all the G3 talk? We won't see it for a year and itll just have another ugly plastic design and poor sales.
29. Desmund (Posts: 74; Member since: 01 Nov 2012)
Who said G2 has ugly design?
Just because you have an opinion don't try to make it a fact G2 has one of the best designs for a phone I've seen in awhile bar the HTC One(which I originally wanted).
This phone is a dream just LG when it comes to update isn't.
The day LG begins updating their phones in God speed is the day the wrestle the reigns of power from Samsung.
34. Joshing4fun (Posts: 1230; Member since: 13 Aug 2010)
Well its certainly not pretty. And that's a wide spread opinion. While that is not a fact, its popular belief which is just as bad given that it is not selling.
36. Whateverman (Posts: 3250; Member since: 17 May 2009)
I like it! Also, I don't it's not selling because it's ugly. I think it's not selling because it's an LG. They killed their reputation with some really crappy feature phones, and even though they've turned out some of the best Android devices money can buy, they haven't done anything to repair their rep. A little marketing would go a long way. It worked for Samsung!
43. E.S.1 (Posts: 297; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
I think you are correct. It's the history before.... I just switched from Samsung (I used Iphone, HTC one and Galaxy 3 before) to LG G2 and if they continue to make phones like this I would never go back to Samsung again.
41. E.S.1 (Posts: 297; Member since: 14 Sep 2013)
G2 is an amazing phone my friend. Plastic or not does it really matter because most of the time will be in the case anyway.
So yes I would get a G3 as well.
32. tiara6918 (Posts: 2014; Member since: 26 Apr 2012)
Manufacturers please stop copying apple and make something different of your own(like innovating more on lg's flexible oled phones). Fingerprint scanners are just a gimmick
35. Whateverman (Posts: 3250; Member since: 17 May 2009)
Sorry guys, but i gotta give credit where credit is due. I think this IS one feature that other OEMs should copy from Apple. Yes, Motorola did it first. And maybe it wasn't the biggest seller because it was on that one phone, on that one network, that was pushing everyone into iPhones at the time.
That said, Apple freakin' NAILED this one! They did what they always do... Took something that already existed, and implemented it in a way no one else thought to. HTCs scanner is a joke compared to the one on the iPhone and if LG uses the same tired, stale implementation it will be just as big of a let down.
40. JunitoNH (Posts: 1583; Member since: 15 Feb 2012)
You guys really need to get outside more, and make new friends. You are talking about phones, right?
44. zachattack (Posts: 621; Member since: 31 Jul 2013)
Fortgetting about the G2 doesn't mean it isn't better than the iPhone 5S. Just because you fail to see that the 5S is a re-branded 5 with a useless fingerprint scanner is your own problem. I heard apples scanner was easily hacked and also could be unlocked by other parts of the body. The finger print scanner is a dumb idea and no phone should have one.
I agree the design should be taken a further step since LG is the only phone creator to actually take chances in that regard. HTC did it first but LG took it a notch further. I hope LG keeps making phones because they clearly know how to make better phones than their leading competitors which is hilarious
