LG G2 to get Android 4.4 update in Canada near the end of next year's first quarter

0. phoneArena 28 Nov 2013, 11:13 posted on

LG's flagship LG G2 model will be updated to Android 4.4 late in the first quarter of 2014. That is according to LG Canada's Brand Coordination head, Court Elliot, who adds that all Canadian carriers will receive the update at the same time. However, it is not clear if that means that all carriers in the country will update their LG G2 models at once. Some carriers like to test updates for a longer period of time than others...

With above announcement i bought the LG Optimus 3D in Dec 2011, till now i am still waiting. Lol! I used to support LG products, i bought their passive 3D 55" tv, their speaker bar, their multi split system 5 air-conditioning later buy another system 4 air conditioning.

LG Optimus 3D will be my last LG product if possible. Gradually changing them to Samsung.

Ok Samsung fanboys, chill down a bit. I'm on 4.3 with my S4, no word on 4.4 and my wife's G2 is still smoother on 4.2. The 4.4 has already started seeding on Korean G2-s. Probably the international version will get the update in a couple of weeks.
Tell me one Samsung phone which has already been updated to 4.4.

This is why the only LG device you should get is a Nexus...

Why some people care so much about an update? Does it really matter that much?
LG G2 is a great phone as is and an update will not make much of a difference.

My Galaxy S 2 I recently updated to Jelly Bean.. It worked just as good before.

Well, for my case LG Optimus 3D is a dual core phone struck at Android 2.3 that don't support multi core. Only honeycomb tablet and ics for phone support multi cores.

That's why ignorance is a bliss but i am a greek so... no support no purchase for me.

Further to that most Google app such as Google keep, Google keyboard require ICS and above making the Optimus 3D obsolete.

Its a real shame the phone is able to capture 3D photo and 3D video looks really cool when shown on my 3D TV.

LG great product no support, plus LG customer support Center sucks! Always like to tell customer water damage void warranty. I heard a few cases while i was there.

Some people care about the updates especially those fresh G2 owners. I made some research and almost purchased G2 but a lot of bugs in the device that users pray to be solved via update - update when??? In April??? No thanks, G2 is nice device but i ll better get back S4. And i am sure that if there are some bugs, they ll be fixed quicker that LG will do.

So as of LG - untill they do not take the software base for their phones more seriously - i wont buy. (Nexus is diff story)

Lol what bugs... My G2 has been a flawless experience for two months. After my nexus 7 updated to 4.4 and I saw very little difference besides a slight performance increase(still not as fast as the g2) and white status & notification bar (apparently a lot of the features I have read about are exclusive to the nexus 5) I'm not exactly salivating for an update for a device that works flawlessly as is. also I received an OTA update upon first boot of my G2. It was not an android version update obviously but this fix may have squashed these bugs you speak of. going in for my upgrade I was considering the g2, the s4, the moto x, and the HTC one. I have zero regret in choosing the g2. because updates aside the g2 will still always have better hardware than all of those phones.

I think some people would agree that someone's purchasing decision when buying a cell phone is a based a little on how that company updates their handsets.

True but fast updates show how much a company cares for its customers. The cheapest thing for them is to roll out a device and never update it again, They save tons of money. But you should never try to be cheap on updates. They matter and its great for press and marketing.

This is the one reason I chose the note 3 over this for my android fix.

Well I guess this will be my frist LG ever and my last one. If I can wait I will few months and then just sell it. Not because I cant live without 4.4 but because 4.3 has been out for ages and we havent even gotten that one and now we will wait 3-4 months for 4.4 while samsung has already updated its devices with 4.3 and is going to 4.4 in a month. Just shows how bad is LG with customer support. Even slow HTC is rolling out updates faster than LG.

Great! Don't buy Samsung. Too many people buy it keeps the price too high.

I looking to switch to xiao mi when they launch a model with removable battery and microSD card slot. Till then only option is Samsung.

I guess the fast update on your moto x makes up for the:
slower processor
smaller screen
lower pixel density
smaller battery
smaller storage capacity
inferior camera
lack of IR blaster

Yeah you got the better phone.

Even though nexus 5 with KK 4.4 released still it cant beat the LG optimus G series UI :) ... we can get fast updates in nexus bt not the best UI.. most of the people like LG for their UI and top class hardware..

I really think people are stupid. 4.4 was announced recently and the only phones to have it are the google edition phones. How on earth is 4 months a long time? Keep your crap update google, because the G2 is still the best phone on the market. I don't even need 500mb of ram for this thing to have disgusting speed. Did i mention my battery lasts 3 days on heavy use? You all realize that this update is under the hood? I hope the other phones do get it first, they actually need the damn thing LOL #Samsungyolo
