LG G2 mini with 4.7 inch screen coming?

0. phoneArena 09 Dec 2013, 20:30 posted on

These days, almost every flagship phone has a companion mini model. And the LG G2 purportedly won't be the exception to the rule. According to a published report, an LG G2 mini is in the works, although it could have a different name by the time it launches. The screen on the mini version of the device is expected to be 4.7 inches as opposed to the 5.2 inch panel on the full-sized model...

So weird, isn't it?
But anyway, things have been getting bigger. After getting the Galaxy Mega 6.3, I find my 4.7" phone (BLU Life Play) pretty "mini" because it is perfect for one handed use and I've never had trouble reaching edges and corners. The LG G2 has very very slim side bezels, so that's expected on the G2 Mini which will then makes it even "minier"

But then again, It's gonna be so weird to see the word "Mini" on a 4.7" device officially. It should be named something else xD

A 4.7 inch can be mini as the latest thin bezel design allows a 4.7 inch screen to be fitted in a 4.3 inch phone body.

Heck pretty recently 4.3" was considered mini. Of course with the slimming down of the bezels I could see how 4.7" could work to be a slight mini (lookin' at you Droid MAXX).

Here's what I want: A G2 which is 135 mm tall, 73 mm wide and 9 mm thick. Everything should remain same. The power button must go on right side, volume on the left, top and bottom bezels must be symmetrical and it should come with KitKat.

Yes. Since the Moto X is probably smaller than the Xperia Z1 mini and the HTC One mini is like huge.

Just think about it. The G2 is the same size as the HTC One. This thing is going to be smaller than the Moto X with a 1080p 4.7 inch screen. Its going to own your iPhone 5s handily.

i think the difference no is that although the screen is large the actual device itself is not due to smaller bezels. example the moto x is 4.7'' but is very close to the size of the iphone 5/5s. so considering how small the bezel on the g2 is, i would guess the bezel on the mini will be small too so there for the device will be close to the size of the iphone 5. here is the size comparison of the 4.7'' moto x and 4'' 5s. size are very similar so yh so you can get away with calling a 4.7'' device mini depending on bezel size.

Long long long ago...Apple trie to get you to believe samll was great, but now they will soon try to get you to believe big is greater. I never liked small screens, because I can't see them as well as large screens Duh......rolf

It's because people do make serious posts like that. Plus the comment has to be dripping in sarcasm before being picked up as such on the internet.

As a side note, "men" should not be wearing their ex-girlfriend's jeans as a fashion statement these days.

If it has an SD slot and 3k battery, I would buy. Are you listening LG? I would buy my first LG device if you would make this phone with the two above requirements.

either it will get pretty thick, or it will get gigantic bezels xD

Not really. Although, if it has to be thicker, then so be it. I would rather thick and usable, if I have to have a sealed battery, or a removable battery. If it is anything less than 2500 mAh, then I would need a removable.

I know right. I would rather have a thicker phone with a bigger battery, too. However, all companies now want to impress people with the thinness of their devices. Most people loves the thinness, too, so having a thick but usable phone is almost impossible.

(The Moto G is quite thick and battery life appears great, but the thickness did not open way for a big battery)

I don't mind if the device ends up being 9 - 10mm. It makes the phone easier to hold instead of these super thin phones that only become comfortable to use when in a case.

I would settle for a 2500 - 2800 mAH battery in the G2 mini. As long as the camera remains the same I would highly consider one. It would be an immediate buy if the casing was a satin/ rubber finish and not a slick piece of plastic.

I personally believe the battery will be 2460 MaH. LG, loves that battery size on their midrangers or smaller devices. But with LG's poor scripting and a S800, expect terrible battery life at that size. If I were LG, I'd opt for 4.7 inch 768x 1366 screen and a S600. The S600 is very capable still and doesn't sacrifice on battery. It still can provide top shelf performance on a less than 1080p screen.

Well, for the 5.2" G2 a 4.7" will be close to its mini form, afterall thats half inch smaller.
But also keep in mind that, LG always had minimum bezels so this 4.7" will be having a really small body.

Dang Apple better step up, They got a lg g2 mini 4.7? It's almost the same size as a galaxy s3. Iphone might as well be micro, they better stop toying with them girly icons and expand the screen.

Mr Techblog once again steals rumors from others. Just like the failed Galaxy Note 7 rumors. We've seen him in the past. Now he possibly thought that LG is the only company with no mini flagship. So he called his imaginary friend to be his sources! Failed once again!

This would probably be a sweet deal if it comes with a S800 processor (even an S600 would be nice). And a 4.7 inch would still be considered a "mini" if it fits in a 4.3 inch body. It would probably cost not much 'cause the G2 in my country is still the cheapest flagship device as of now (The GS4 is still pricier).

My main problem would be the updates. I know LG doesn't have a good track record on this.

The galaxy S4 mini is tttttiiiiinnnnnnnyyyyy. Stop judging size by the screen size. That method doesn't work very well anymore.

Maybe the 4.7 screen will be a stronger selling point for those that don't like the OG2(Yeah I tried I know), but 4.7 isn't my definition of mini.

I'd call my now old Atrix 4G a mini phone if anything think it was no bigger than 4.0 inches far as screen size.

Just sell the phone as it was designed. It is awesome. Small would defeat the purpose of having a large viewing area.

4.7" 1080p IPS with thin bezels (around moto x size) with flagship specs, I'm buying instantly!!!
