LG E970 for AT&T with Adreno 320 GPU comes out on top of graphics benchmarks

0. phoneArena 28 May 2012, 08:25 posted on

The specs also list HD 1280x768 pixels display and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and we've heard before that the Sprint version - LG LS970 "Eclipse" - of this new LG flagship might feature 2GB of RAM, like the LG Optimus LTE 2, and sport a quad-core processor, so that's what could be in store for AT&T's version as well. We doubt it, though, since the APQ8064 looks destined for tablets, as it doesn't have an integrated modem, and its might would be pretty pointless in a phone anyway...

This preliminary benchmark doesn't indicate anything. This is vsync limited test. PowerVR SGX543MP4 does worse in GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Standard test but blows other away on other tests.

even this test would be able to indicate the substantial difference in power that this thing is rumored to have if it does have it. frame cap or not.

Last I checked the overclocked Mali 400 wiped the floor with the competition in every test that wasn't frame limited.
The Egypt test isn't a basic test. The Adreno 320 beat the sgs3 so it's very capable, but when it's competition is tablets and not , it's still underpowered compared to its most direct competition, the Mali 600... Which is supposed to be 5x more powerful than the Mali 400.
It's all about context... Don't get your Qualcomm fanboy thongs in a bunch.

I am not a fan unlike you, I have a vita and the SGX543 is the best GPU right now.
Last time I check the 225 is still better at nenamark 2.0

ugh...
here we go with the stupid name calling.
"im not a fan unlike you.. bla bla blah"

really, then why is it when i type the REALITY of the placement of the chips, you get upset about it and tell me i dont know jack? Hmm?
Its a simple placement chart. There is no fanboyish crap about it. Its amazing that the people that get upset that "their" chip doesnt come out on top call other's a fanboy for merely suggesting that small fact.

get over it.

for now, the 4412 with overclocked mali400 is the top phone CPU/GPU. The adreno 320 was supposed to be something big time, but if its only barely coming out above the mali 400, its not going to be a competition at all for the mali 600 or whatever apple and TI brings out with PowerVR.

And this article is proof of what I was saying in our conversations from before. the "pro" is going for tablets not for phones for now. Its trying to race against the 5250, not the 4412.

period. point blank. cry to your mama.

you obviously don't know what you're talking about.
adreno 320 is a completely new GPU architecture, meant to be used from smartphones to laptops.

had you put any brains into that fact, you'd realize that it means we're talking about modular design with huge clock speed span/overclocking abilities.

adreno 320 for windows 8 pc's most surely won't be the same as the one in an android smartphone, genius

suuuurely. do you have ANY proof to back up any claim you just made?

"its a new GPU architecture!"
so is the Mali 600. On paper it still beats the Adreno, and if this is indicative of the real world performance of the Adreno, its not going to be a contest.

Adreno 320 is adreno 320, regardless of what OS its running. The only performance differences will be in clock speeds and OS optimization. They are not going to launch the chip and immediately clock it up, because then they wont have room to grow with it. It took sammy a year to clock up the Mali, and I wouldnt be surprised if we didnt see the Adreno 320 clocked up until after christmas or right around at the absolute earliest. They only generally do that when they are trying to squeeze a bit of extra life out of the chip.

So far, I've been right pretty much every step of the way, yet you still nip at my heels for saying things you dont like. My only surprise has been how low preliminary tests on the chip were, as I expected them to be a lot higher. However, these are preliminary tests and can change dramatically by launch.

Looks like its going to be a good year for LG

Remixfa, we are Qualcomm fanboys?
How very ironic, coming from a blind snapdragon basher.
Or if you're not blind, you must be psychic then!
Since you can say this GPU is inferior, based on this single test.
A very relative test, at that.
From a prototype phone.
With an pre-production configuration
With an unknown clock speed of a processor GPU.

Stop making dumb founded conclusions if you want to be taken seriously at all.
And that goes for the author of the article too.

werent you the same person making judgement on the SGS3 from limited preproduction tests?

oh yea, you were.

haha, what?
i honestly don't know.. but even if i were, i learned from it..while you were all like, "oh wait now, hold on, this is prematurely, this ain't saying anything yet!!"
so, mr. "objective", see any difference?

preliminary is preliminary. Even though the SGS3 handily beats the competition, all the tests are preliminary. The phone launches today, so I will take what comes out NOW as fact.
Maybe if you let my words soak in before posting a seething fanboy rant, you would see a whole lot of "IF these are indicative.. bla bla bla". As in, not taken as hard fact, but making an observation based on current data. I expect these scores to go up. It was the simple fact that they are WAY lower than I expected them to be that caught my attention.
I dont make hard judgement until I have a final retail unit to judge by. That doesnt mean I cant put a placeholder out based on early testing. Dont worry your little fanboy head. Its still going to come in well ahead of the Mali400 overclock, its just how far is the question. However its going to have to improve big time to come near where the Mali 600 should end up.

haha, amazing. what the heck are you talking about?
i just pointed out your double standards!
and while we're at it -complain about the name calling?
have a look at your own post.
calling me a little snapdragon fan is just about the most ridiculous thing ever, lol.
for the x-th time, i have no problems with mali 6xx, or whatever else.
i will gladly acknowledge the best GPU when i see one.

and you're again contradicting your self down the road.
if we compare PHONES here - then this LG is THE phone WHEN it comes out.
just like sgsIII now has the best GPU, it will have the best GPU when it comes out this year.
and when is the sgsIII successor coming out?

as for the true potential of adreno 320, you have no clue, except for the basic fact that it's meant FOR PHONES AND TABLETS AND LAPTOPS. why not use your brain then?
just look at how much of a difference can be made within the same GPU - PowerVr543MP2/MP4, mali400/400Mp..just by pure objective logic adreno 320 for tablets should be twice faster than the same GPU version for phones.

so you have no basis at all for your little rants.
i'm done with this ridiculous discussion

ive been done with it. i just like seeing your ridiculous responses. :)

can you break down your pure objective logic please? because its lacking any basis in reality. :)

BTW, you prove your bias, either as a fanboy or just trying to troll my posts, since you attack me blindly, yet King has been saying the exact same things nearly word for word and you ignore his posts. So either its personal or your a fanboy. Take your pick.

What's the point in showing the benchmark when the phone haven't been release yet?
