Kyocera and Marvel partner to work on a Wi-Fi/CDMA handset

Kyocera Wireless Corp and Marvel announced that they have partnered in an effort to develop a handset platform, combining Marvell's WLAN technology and chipsets with a readily available CDMA mobile phones. The dual mode handsets will be able to offer better coverage and enhanced multimedia services as well as speeds of up to 54 Mbps. According to industry analysts, there is a great potential for WLAN-enabled handsets in the future. They predict that about 125 million dual-mode Wi-Fi/CDMA devices will be sold in the year 2008, which will be 15 percent of the global mobile phones market. It's not astonishing that Kyocera wants to secure its place in this emerging market niche.
