KitKat update for the Note 3 Neo, Galaxy S4 mini, Grand 2, and Mega 6.3 coming this month, 3G S III is a no-go

0. phoneArena 03 Jul 2014, 05:36 posted on

Another leaked slide from Samsung comes our way, and this time it is showing the latest Android KitKat upgrade schedule for a bunch of midrangers from the company. The biggest news here is that a KitKat update for the international non-LTE version of the Galaxy S III is a no-go, despite that Samsung had it scheduled in previous update leaks...

This is weird, the Note II got the KK update earlier than the newer and more superior Note 3 Neo.

They probably work by attending to a phone with wider users first and then moving towards phone with less users. So in this case Note 2 will obviously have more owners (since its a flagship) then Note 3 Neo.

What is the point of upgrading to Kit Kat if then third party apps cannot write to memory card...??

the weird thing is that the ace 4 and the young 2 (512mb of ram!) both will come with kitkat out of the box and s3 wont get it ever dou to "lack of ram"...

They don't come with full TouchWiz but a lite version called TouchWiz essence which will be as usual more laggy than usual TouchWiz!

unofficial kitkat roms are much better than the stock roms on gs3 , so nothing to worry . but not everyone is capable of rooting and unlocking the phone . s3 was getting more and more laggy with every update of android with latest touchwiz ,

I really don't understand why Google doesn't insist that all Android smartphones run the stock OS out of the box. Manufacturers have the freedom to differentiate their brands on the basis of specs, design, build quality & price. Why should they also meddle with the stock launcher. Most people anyway switch to a 3rd party launcher. Even the manufacturer installed apps are considered as unnecessary bloat are.

Stock launchers on all phones will allow Google to ensure that all Android users have access to the latest version of the OS should they decide to update. There is always the option to install 3rd party launchers to suit individual tastes. Google can thus ensure that at any given time, a majority of customers are running the latest version of the OS without giving up the ability to customize.

Current midrange devices getting the OS update after 8 months is telling & unforgivable. This means that within a short time they will once again be behind the curve when Android L is released

It would be nice if the OEMs release their devices with stock Android and then just offer a launcher at the Play Store, which can have access to the device system so people can customize their device to their heart desire. Or they can also set up a sub-settings in the device settings where you can activate whatever features the OEMs include in their device that stock Android doesn't have. This way they can bring most of their devices up to date with the current version of Android withing weeks and not months of the release of the latest version of the OS.

Bit odd the SIII isn't getting the update when the S5 mini Exynos version is so similar in specs.

Meh, I gave on on official updates the moment the 4.3 update came and it was a bloated POS. Seriously, like half the system apps are crap Samsung put in.

Anyway, it had a good run I guess, 4.0 all the way to 4.3. That's way more than any flagship released during the same time period (One X, Xperia S, Optimus G).
