KitKat 4.4 really does taste as good as it looks
0. phoneArena 03 Sep 2013, 14:21 posted on
Google just announced that the next major version of Android will be Android 4.4 KitKat. This is the first product tie-in for an Android nickname, and as we mentioned before, the tie-in goes beyond just the name. As part of it all, KitKat has just released a new commercial to expound the virtues of KitKat...

"Still, it is pretty cool that there will be 50 million KitKat bars that will be made to look just like the Android bugdroid, and has launched a contest to give away Nexus 7 tablets. "
The actual Android shaped ones are limited edition prizes which Nestle has written about in their article.
"SPECIAL PRIZES: More than 50 million Android-branded KitKat bars will be available."
"LIMITED EDITION: A small number of Android robot-shaped KitKat bars will also be offered as prizes."
Still, it is pretty cool that you guys read the article from the BBC enough to see 50 million.

I think key lime pie would be announced next year. as to the integration of one os to all is still under research IMO

Key Lime Pie will not exist. The next major Android version will be an L sweet.

Here comes the best mobile OS... Android to rule, until the second coming!
10. Feanor (Posts: 711; Member since: 20 Jun 2012)
There is some cheapness in this concept though. Imagine your premium, shiny HTC One or the fancy, glassy Xperia Z1 running... KitKat and waiting the update to Snickers...

Wooo....I never thought android versions were named alphabetically...its really interesting....thanks
I wonder wat happened to key lime pie rumors. .?

Sweet...like kit-kat...so 4.4 will be incremental update...was expecting 5.0.
what are odds of Any Rubin cooking Android 5.0 in x-lab...with some serious multitasking, performance optimizations etc.

Im looking forward to what "KitKat" can do for and to the Android community. Which also means that people may need to start upgrading their phones to see it live

So is the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 7 going to get this when Android 8.0 is out?
18. tedkord (Posts: 11690; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
It doesn't really matter, because even if they do they'll still be 2 years ahead of the competition.
28. dragonisinogard (Posts: 34; Member since: 17 Jun 2013)
Maybe Windows but Apple at least lets everyone get the new iOs the same year. An the sad thing is Apple takes what Google does and make it work right.
33. tedkord (Posts: 11690; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
The "same" OS. So, yes, you got to update your iPhone 4 to the same OS # as the 4s, but you didn't get all the features. Same when the 5 came out for the 4s. Not the same.
And, since all the features of Apple's upcoming iOS7 are two or more years old on Android phones, yes, they will still be behind.
38. dragonisinogard (Posts: 34; Member since: 17 Jun 2013)
Look at it this way, okay Android was the first to the notification shade, than they made it a hot mess by adding quick toggles to it. So Apple finally does the "notification shade" But when they add the quick toggles they leave it on a different shade. An yes while some Apple phones don't get the newest features of the newest OS at least they get it whereas there are phones that aren't even a year old and they won't get updated past what they are released with. So while I love Android for being open, first, multiple phones and different screen sizes. They do not do anything proper in terms of software when it comes to the Skins on top of Android. So while they may not get some of the features at least their is no security holes, and fragmentation or waiting a year to be told oh we aren't updating your phone but heres the note 3 which is only slightly better than your note 2 but its got the newest OS. Its bs to be blunt, I am not a apple fanboy coming to pick a fight I am just telling you what I have noticed being a user of Symbian, Windows 6,6.5,8, Android from 1 to 4.1, iOs 1 or 2(I had a iPhone 3G) Blackberry before the revamp, and Samsungs Touchwiz OS before Android. Now Android I have noticed has multiple issues from the too quickly releasing OSes to not being able to patch bugs quickly. iPhone may steal ideas from Android but they do make them work and when their is a security issue with any of their oses they fix it within a couple of days whereas Google when a problem is found within their OS has to fix it on the core level than release it to their many phone makers than the phone makers have to fix it in the Skin if its on top of it than they have to release it the carriers and than the carriers have to release it to us. Its a cluster I despise apple a lot I love my android but it is falling behind and the only thing they are revolutionizing still is the hardware which is only half the issues. Apple is killing them in the software side and thats what counts. Plus Ecosystem. Apple has got this great ecosystem, thats what Google should be focused on, getting a great desktop os and laptop os out and actually taking the fight to Apple and Microsoft but until they have a ecosystem thats more than a bunch of cloud based items stitched together, they will not win the fight. Look at it like this Apples basket as bad as it may seem is still held together with Gorilla Tape, Google has Duct Tape, and Microsoft is got Packing Tape. Out of those three major phone companies, Apple will last the longest. With or without Jobs the company is going to survive Google is still young so they have a chance but I am positive by 2025 or so they will either merge or Apple will buyout Google one or the other.

I suppose you might have a point, somewhere in that mess of letters, I would think you tried at least.
You obviously don't know s**t about iOS or Android. You clearly stated Apple stole Android design, but made better. Did you have to tell yourself in the mirror for months to believe that?
Apple makes good products, for simpletons. iOS is a bland os with few "features". Kids and the elderly appreciate apple products.
For the techno nerds, Android fits the bill wonderfully. 9 out of 10 people I know that switched from Android to Apple are switching back. Granted everyone has their choice and we can agree to disagree, I'm ok with that.
When Steve jobs died, Apples spirit went with him. I don't truly believe we would be having these OS battles had Steve been alive today.
Good luck to all in the hunt for their unicorn device in next few months.

not design idess ie the multitasking the notification shades and more and i still dont understand the claims of iphones are for simple people my uncle whose in his late forties couldnt use a iphone i am a techno nerd ive been on electronics of all sorts for almost twenty years. i believe apples spirit did leave when he died but we do not know yet what will happen i know a lot about ios and android all the way done to the kernal launch dates and more trust me im not some fanboy of either os i state facts thats why i believe what i believe and what i dont believe i need solid proof and i have seen solid proof ios is coming up. i apologize for any and all spelling issues due to my posting this from a phone.

Sorry, quick toggles isn't a mess, it's great. And, Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy and if not for MS bailing them out would not exist today. And prior to that people were making the same predictions.
Apples business plan is guaranteed niche. It happened with personal computers, it happened with smartphones, it's happening with tablets.
I don't think they will disappear anytime soon, but sorry, Google is already winning the fight. Every quarter Android share increases, IOS decreases. Even with a year handicap, Android got to a billion devices sold before well before iOS.
What will happen in the future? No one knows. Either one could trip up badly. It happens. But right now, Google is the more innovative company.
65. dragonisinogard (Posts: 34; Member since: 17 Jun 2013)
No I agree Quick Toggles is a great idea but they messed up by making it in the notification shade so now between the Music Controls, Notifications, and the Quick Toggles its one big hot mess. Yes Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy but that was over 20 years ago 1991 or 1993 I believe. But Microsoft did bail them out do you think bill would let them go under? Google will not win the war without computers too many of there phonemakers don't make drivers for the Windows or Mac pcs, so unless Google gets the Chrome OS away from the cloud and as a viable solution to Windows and Apple they will not win anything except maybe the mobile battle but that is a small percent.
Yes Android maybe growing and Apple does decrease but every September/October they grow back to their old selves. An thats cool you know why Android got a billion devices sold before IOS? Think about it this way Android is released on the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Motorola Droid Ultra, Motorola Droid Mini, Motorola Droid Ultra Maxx, Motorola X now obviously theirs more than that but for my point lets just say thats all the Android phones, If their were only those seven devices they would only have to sell this many to make a billion 142857142.85 but as we all know their is over a hundred to a thousand different android devices. Its easier to reach a billion with a thousand devices, you sell a million of those and oh hey look you got a billion devices sold. However Apple with 85-90 Million is more impressive because they have done that with only 7 devices that means each version of IPhone has sold at least 10 million alone.
Hardware doesn't make the phone its the software and yes I agree Google is the more innovative company, the one thing they didn't innovate though was Video Calling. Googles floundering in the ecosystem and thats how apple is winning the war in the long run. Think about hardware like this Apple has the better graphics processor because their OS doesn't need as much ram or processing power as android but Android has the better processors and ram because they are more power horse than Apple but they have weaker graphics processors.
The way I look at the war is this, Apple is for anyone that wants a MP3 Player that plays games good and makes phone calls, Android is phones for people that want to be able to pick up their phone and do anything and everything to it with the possibility of issues. Windows is for business users that don't need distractions while working.

Its pretty clear to me you have never used iOS. Upgrade, you'll like it. Dont be a blind fanboy (not saying you are one), try using every OS and then comment. Your thinking might change.

oops didnt see you werent responding to me
60. tedkord (Posts: 11690; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
I have never owned an iPhone, but I have used them quite a bit. Boredom is all I felt. And restricted. It's a good device, it's not for me.
My good friend at work has an iPhone since the OG. He went to a Note 2 last year, mainly because he borowed my Android phone for downloading (I had LTE, he didn't), and he saw how much better it was for him.
I have actually recommended the iPhone to several people (I'm the guy everyone asks about they issues, and has to fix and upgrade their PCs for them) Android isn't for everyone either.

How many dumb people will complain about key like pie, lets watch
42. ayephoner (Posts: 850; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
why would it be dumb to complain about klp?
im really disappointed in this. the name 4.4 implies that we are up for yet another incremental update to android. that is really shocking since 5.0 has been rumored for over 6 months now.
who knows, maybe 4.4 is just being used since kitkat has 4 bars. i sure hope that's the case and we get some real substance with this update.

Adding a few nexus 5 smartphone as prizes would make the way sweeter promotion.

I heard that when you tap the screen google has found a way to send an electric wave from the OS directly into a previously unknown orgasm spot in the finger!! Google we are not worthy. I'm also sticking my 1020 on Craigslist tomorrow because overnight it got worse since m$ bought them. Phone turned to total garbage. I knew it would turn quick but damn! I'm going to pick me up a S4 because its by far the best phone. M$ forced my hand.
