Just like Google: Motorola wants stock Android, but will concede to Verizon

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Oct 2012, 21:49

Being the number one smartphone platform has its benefits, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you're the top dog in the mobile world. Android is huge, but Android wouldn't be nearly as big if it weren't for Verizon. So, while Motorola wants to provide "close to" stock Android experiences, it has to concede to Verizon's wishes...

Been there done that. Verizon is useless and overrated at best. Regardless of it's so called Lte coverage which everyone seems to be strung out over. Verizon is the WORST CARRIER in the carrier business when it comes to updates for handsets. They are the WORST CARRIER EVER with it's overpriced Lte devices and it's disabling bloatware filled devices. It's network is very unstable and has poor reception/signal strength in most major cities. Paying more doesn't mean better nor does more Lte markets mean better. 80%of any Verizon handset has piss poor battery life and dreadful Dbm/asu signal strength which means you will be lucky to get 4hrs tops of battery life on any LTE device. (IE) Htc Thunderdud, Htc Rezound, Lg Revolution, Lg Vu/Intuition, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Lg Lucid, Droid 4,Droid 3, all these so called Lte smartphones are the WORST LTE handsets on the market check the forums. Verizon has pitiful company policies for testing devices but they still release buggy devices with piss poor software that makes the overall experience of owning any LTE device crippling. If you don't have the Droid Razr, Razr Maxx, Razr Hd, or iphone 4/4s or iphone 5 then you just don't matter to Verizon. They ruined the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I am glad they will never see another Nexus again. Otherwise if your on Verizon '' GOOD LUCK with that they are far from the best that's for sure. And here in New York City Tmobile bitch slaps Verizon hands down.

33. Normil posted on 17 Oct 2012, 07:48 2

Since when was the Droid 3 a LTE device?

37. jphillips63 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:12 1

I'm not sure why you say all the phones in your list only gets 4 hrs max of use? Have you personally owned each one of these phones?

I have the Rezound and I can vouch it gets more than 4 hrs from a charge. With ICS you are able to disable the bloat in the phone and this increases the battery life a great deal. Also if you install the global RUU that again increased the battery life in this phone. So please unless you have solid facts don't go talking out ya ass and make a fool out of yourself.

38. KingKurogiii posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:13 4

what a pathetic troll argument that's full of lies...

NiGG@ Please!!!!!! Your whole comment sounds like a piss pour butt load of hate. NiGG@ y u Hatin???? You Know LTE SMASHES hspa+. That's why more people leave T-hobo everyday in record #'s, T-hobo loses more customers a day than all carriers combined lose a day. So u Winey ass NiGG@ keep crying. and I'll keep LTE flying. RAZR MAXX all dissay.

48. jroc74 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 21:30 1

Dude.....you fail to realize that the phone can play a part in poor signal strength, not just the network.

Your list of the worst LTE phones on the market......doesnt even deserve a response. I have a Rezound and had G Nex....and they both had data issues. But the G Nex never saw LTE in places my Rezound did. Thats not the network....thats the phone.

You also fail to realize every carrier has weak spots. I'm not in NY, and where I am T Mobile sucks. And Sprint. AT&T and Verizon are the best ones where I am.

And battery life? Motorola phones on Verizon have historically had above average battery life vs the other Android on Verizon.

49. jroc74 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 21:36 1

And I hate to break it to ya....but Samsung helped ruin the G Nex with reception issues. The Nexus S also has reception issues. Sometimes....its the phone. This is something Samsung has been known for long before Android came out. The Omnia 1 was dreadful for reception. Thats Win Mo 6.0 Omnia 1...not WP.

And one reason why I am a big Moto fan....reception.

52. johnriii posted on 19 Oct 2012, 08:35 1

4 hours of battery? I own the biggest battery hog out there, and I get more than 4 hours. stop your griping and hating, Verizon has the best OVERALL network, hands down. the number of subscribers don't lie. yes, they could be better, but couldn't ALL carrier be better? of course. OTR truckers swear by verizon, based on my 16 years of dispatching them for a branch of UPS. and like someone else has asked you, have you OWNED all of these phones you listed? how would you actually know the facts that you spew? here is a fact for you: in Kansas city, MO, I know 12 people who own tmobile phones. and to a man, they drop at least two calls a week. I have dropped less then 10 calls in the 9 YEARS with verizon. so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

5. bobfreking55 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:01 7

Motorola is Verizon's pet. I hate all carriers that like bloatware and putting their big fat logos on the phone. Unlocked phones from the playstore for us!

7. rcjrdrummer posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:04 1

We just need the LTE, thats it.

17. OptimusOne posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:34 2

never buying a cdma nexus ever. a cdma nexus is not a real nexus.

cdma requires proprietary keys that only verizon can give and google can not develop separatly. therefore updates will be slow.

unlike gsm, where all the keys for the network are the same and google will be able to work on it months ahead and deliver an update within hours of the release

a VYZ nexus wouldn't be a real nexus. It would just be a phone with stock android on it.

the people at VYZ do not understand what nexus is.

nexus means fast updates and pure android yet verizon puts bloatware in gnex and delays the update by months. that goes against the very definition of nexus and they were even about to lock the bootloader if google did not intervene at the last minute

the VYZ Gnex didn't deserve the Nexus name. It was just like a any other phone that came with stock android. updates come at verizon's descretion, not google

if another VYz nexus is released, i think the same thing will happen. It might come out with Key lime pie out of the box, but that might be about it. Everything else would be like a normal phone. updates security etc

and who knows, verizon might even be stupid enough to release a "development version" of what already was supposed to be a "nexus" already.

I hope google will be wise and never release cdma nexus every again. They could release a phone that came with keylime pie stock, but I hope they will never name it "nexus".

that is what will tarnish a nexus's image. a VYZ nexus will not be unique in the android world. It would just blend in with the crowd of other non nexus named phones.

thats my thought. thumb it as you wish

34. fervid posted on 17 Oct 2012, 09:03

What is a VYZ?

41. roldefol posted on 17 Oct 2012, 13:13

An airport neighboring Toronto?

45. OptimusOne posted on 17 Oct 2012, 17:42

i meant verizon

36. The_Innovation posted on 17 Oct 2012, 10:41

That would pretty much be like Google, making it's own phone. No middleman.

Add superior hardware to it like the Optimus G, with that edge to edge design and a 3300 mAh battery, and the entire phone industry would kneel to them and call them God.

2. BattleBrat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 21:57 3

I tried to get a 4s out of verizons clutches, but the bastards wouldn't let it go. I had to activate it by knocking service off my RAZR. And unlocking a Verizon iPhone is useless because of how buggy they are, as far as I know there is only one iPhone 4S across all carriers, so Verizon must have gotten even apple to bow to it!

11. 305Bucko posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:10 3

...wha???

14. BattleBrat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:16 1 3

I'll be going back to the RAZR soon, I needed to activate the 4S so that I could use it as a glorified iPod Touch....

50. 305Bucko posted on 18 Oct 2012, 01:40

umm.. ok?

15. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:17

what does that have to do with this article??

19. BattleBrat posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:41 2 1

When Verizon got the iPhone 4 what happened?... that's right apple made a CDMA phone just for Verizon, and verizon tested the living crap and made apple fix the antenna flaw that the 4 had. What I'm saying is that Verizon is like CRAZY powerful that even Apple had to concede to them. The Verizon 4s (as it was explained to me) has a software component that Verizon made apple install, which is why you HAVE to jail break it to unlock it.
The point is Verizon is making everyone its bitch, even apple!

20. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:42 2 1

oooo ok man thank for explaining yourself.....

47. quickweevil posted on 17 Oct 2012, 20:20 1

Two statements here are false. One: Verizon didn't have to do anything for Apple to fix the antenna. When the redesigned the antenna for CDMA it just didn't suffer the same atenuation that the GSM-only iPhone 4 did. Two: You don't have to jailbreak a 4S to unlock them with Verizon. I know, I work there.

51. 305Bucko posted on 18 Oct 2012, 01:50 1

Thank you. I was going to post something but had no idea where to even start with so many inaccuracies in his statement.

I have no Idea why anyone would activate an iPhone with Verizon to then go back to a Razr in order to use the iPhone as a "glorified iPod". For starters, why cant you use your Razr for music? Secondly you dont need to activate carrier service for that, you can just tap "skip" at the begining of the wizard and voila.

Lastly Verizon did not make apple its "bitch" Apple can buy Verizon, Att, and Sprint if it wanted to, tomorrow. Apple simply made the phone a CDMA version so it would work on Verizon. (no bigger picture there) If anything Verizon was begging for an iPhone just like Sprint begged for an iPhone.

As close to stock is better than Touchwiz or Sense. I dont mind as long as the bloat can be removed.

22. OptimusOne posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:56

i don't mind sense or touchwiz. all i care is root, and unlocked bootloaders. I don't even care about bloatware

if i buy a device: firstthing, unlock bootloader, flash recovery img, and flash cyanogen mod.

I bypass any manufactuer ui or bloatware

35. fervid posted on 17 Oct 2012, 09:06

I don't even care so much about bootloaders if I could at least get a device with root or something allowing me to remove apps I don't want and the ability to backup the entire phone.

27. jroc74 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 00:40 1

The latest versions of Blur is so close to stock you could mistake it for stock ICS.

6. rcjrdrummer posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:02 2

Moto is on the right track. Verizon is just ignorant and wants their logo everywhere

13. PAPINYC (limited) 2 days ago posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:16 7

Yes, and with that said, as soon as that Galaxy Note 2 with its' big fat Verizon logo on the "Home" button hits the stores so will I. And, I will proudly flaunt that big fat beast with that big fat logo everywhere where daylight dawns.

16. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:18

hahhaahahah papi funny as hell man lol

18. OptimusOne posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:35

you could cover it with a sticker?

8. k1ng617 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:08 1

Anyone ever think if they wanted to truly differentiate themselves they could just leave it stock because everyone else is already different?

9. maxican16 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:09 1

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

The more I read about Verizon, the more I grow to despise them. We pay handsomely for these devices and they should be ours to control!

10. AndroidShiz posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:10 1

Even on Windows phones carrier apps can be removed. I'm not sure why android is the only operating system that has to be forced to have un-removable apps of the carrier. Sure I can see why they don't want tethering and all that other stuff, (with the new plans that shouldn't matter) but why do we have Verizon Apps that most people don't use? If we want them so bad can't we just simply download them from the market? I mean how many people really want NASCAR on Sprint phones? Or AT&T's TV app? Seriously.

12. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:14

true! but its their way of saying "Im verizon" and not at&t or whomever, which is really in a sense not necessary because like you said most of the stuff they put on there people really dont use and there should always be the option to remove these if they so desire......

21. OptimusOne posted on 16 Oct 2012, 22:52 1

if verizon released a "development version" of a nexus device and made consumers pay extra, that would be absolutly insulting to every single developer who usesVYZ and even more insulting to google who spent all these years building the nexus name.

I don't want to see andy rubin's face if this happens

23. mas11 posted on 16 Oct 2012, 23:35 1

"Our partners sometimes want customizations... " Isn't that what stock Android does best? Btw no big complaints here, imho the new Motoblur is better than any other OEM skin.

24. OptimusOne posted on 16 Oct 2012, 23:58

i don't like it.

its like kinda ics, but its also kinda not.

if you give a custom skin give me sense 4+(its awesome)
if you give me stock, give me stock.
don't give me something that isn't neither

25. mas11 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 00:02

See that's what's so cool about Android is you can choose how your phone looks and if you root it you can even use other OEM skins.

26. KingKurogiii posted on 17 Oct 2012, 00:23 1 1

i don't think Verizon is just at fault here. i think it's carriers in general.

28. jaheimRakim posted on 17 Oct 2012, 00:43

is it just me or has Verizon become the apple of us cellphone carriers with their arrogance?

32. protozeloz posted on 17 Oct 2012, 07:40

I have to say I kinda like the new blur, I just wish those new options would change because I don't want to be asked to make a new screen every time I hit the least home screen

42. roldefol posted on 17 Oct 2012, 13:17

Why are people calling it "the new blur"? Starting with ICS, Moto is now so close to stock that the name doesn't even apply. It's just Android, and that's a good thing.

43. protozeloz posted on 17 Oct 2012, 13:51

except for the home screen, but I like the Blur E-mail app

39. jphillips63 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:16 1

One word to solve all this. "Root"

Unlock the bootloader and root your device. Plain and simple. Then do a nandroid backup and have your way with your phone, install custom roms remove bloat do with it how you please.

40. Ivan6479 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 12:59

And here I thought the market was controled by the consumer, boy was I ever wrong. I mean seriously what are we doing as consumers letting these mobile giants take control of the situation. We are the ones feeding this fire. It is about time we all come together to put these companies in thier place. If we don't do something now it's only bound to get worse!

44. downphoenix posted on 17 Oct 2012, 16:53

I feel ashamed of Google and Motorola for giving in to the carriers. As much as I dont like Apple, they at least make a stand and have the carriers concede to them rather than the other way around. I kind of wish they would operate more like Apple in this regard, if they did, they could completely crush Apple.
