Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy S II could rollout next month
0. phoneArena posted on 22 Jul 2012, 17:28
With Android updates taking months and months and months to complete, it seems extremely strange to hear that Android 4.1.1 could be ready for both the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Samsung Galaxy S II as soon as next month...

Looking good Samsung. Looking very good. You have improved so much over last year as far as your update process. Continue this and you will continue to be the number 1 maker of Android devices.

ICS was updated twice already for Note (4.0.3 and 4.0.4). Even the AT&T version is on ICS...

So what?! I waited this update for 6 month! 6!!! Huawei released ICS stable final update at december, Galaxy Note get it only at may! This is ridiculously slow!

I sent a letter to HTC to do this and other ways to improve their market share and make more profit and hopefully they will get their act together

HTC has actually confirmed they will upgrade their 1X and 1S to JB. For SS this is just rumour and the company said nothing itself.

Too bad they can't multitask.

If the GS3 or the GS2 get Jelly Bean before my Verizon Nexus I am going to be PISS*D. Soooo wrong!

google play said the galaxy nexus will be the first with JB.

I hope they mean for all the galaxy s 3 and not just the international one. My gut says no but I am hoping that with the lawsuits going around it will happen a lot faster since jelly bean is suposed to be a version of android that apple has no reason to try and get a ban of sales for that phone. I have a Verizon one and usually they will take forever as we all know but to have a hold on sales for even a week is a huge loss in money for all. I personally think the way Verizon goes about with the long waits is stupid and does nothing to help anything. Along with there practice of denying knowledg of anything and saying well we know as mutch as the general public about info when all in all that just frustrates consumers and I know they lose customers that way. I had a galaxy nexus and I know if they take that long on a nexus phone than it does not look good for my new s3. Also I have noticed that ever since I had my Samsung omnia that Verizon does not really do much for Samsung phones and almost seems like they divert people from buying Samsung phones and try steering people to Motorola phones. Ever since Verizon became the biggest carrier it seems they have switched from going the extra mile to pleas the consumer to trying to see how much money they can squeeze out of our pocket. I just wish the other carriers can catch up so all four carriers have equal quality in there 4g and other data service as far as coverage and speed are concerned. That way maybe we might see Verizon bring back programs like being able to upgrade at a discount after a year on a two year contract and unlimited data. I don't think unlimited data will ever com back and eventually I think they will try and kick people off in more and more aggressive ways. On the other hand being able to upgrade early I feel will sometimes be implemented when certain phones are released to boost sales. In closing I just not only hope I get my jelly bean ASAP and to wish for the consumer to have the upper hand again for verizom

Dont get mad at Samsung when your Verizon Galaxy S3 won't get the Jelly Bean update..I know Verizon will be the last

Nice!... but my hopes aren't up yet..The carrier still has to approve it

Can't they fix the bugs in the Galaxy S2 ICS update first? I can't download it because of all the bugs reported.
21. Forsaken77 posted on 22 Jul 2012, 19:41 0 0
What bugs? I have the official 4.0.4 update on my GS2 Skyrocket and it works flawlessly. I also downloaded 3 leaked versions before the official one came out. Those leaked versions had bugs, but the official, at least on my Skyrocket, works great.
31. WinC76 posted on 22 Jul 2012, 22:16 0 0
The issue is on the international version. Not the Skyrocket. The majority of international GS2s are on 4.0.3 which is quite buggy. There are issues like WiFi not turning on after you try to enable it sometimes. The UI has a few hiccups here and there. There are quite a number of others. Samsung released pretty much a half-baked update. So we're waiting for the 4.0.4 update which should fix things up.
But having a 4.1 update sounds even better.
12. Non_Sequitur posted on 22 Jul 2012, 18:03 1 3
UGH. Yes. S-Voice is CRAP. They better do this, or else Samsung will officially be the worst updating manufacturer in the history of Android. Especially after the flop that was the SGSII ICS.
Oh well. I can't wait for my Pad Infinity to arrive. Asus is better with updates and I'll get Jelly Bean soon. c:

I agree that S-Voice was just a gimmick and cannot compare even to Siri let alone Google Now, but this was great effort from SS nevertherless.
7. KingKurogiii posted on 22 Jul 2012, 17:57 1 0
it would be amazing if this came to fruition considering how bad Samsung is with Android version upgrades overall but i'll cross my fingers.
40. ph00ny posted on 23 Jul 2012, 00:30 0 1
How are they bad on updates? They've pretty much beat or matched everyone else in the industry this time. Only folks that were left out are S1 folks and those couldn't be updated with TW
53. KingKurogiii posted on 23 Jul 2012, 10:55 2 0
that's bull, lower end Samsung devices are launching with ICS & Nature UX and on top of that Samsung washed ICS out so much with same old TW4 that you can barely tell the difference between a Gingerbread SII and an ICS SII. HTC was the first to start rolling out updates and Motorola and LG made the most improvement with their ICS update builds. Samsung doesn't fall anywhere.
13. shnibz posted on 22 Jul 2012, 18:25 2 0
Don't even have it for VZW Galaxy Nexus...
Aren't they supposed to get it first!?
22. KingKurogiii posted on 22 Jul 2012, 19:43 0 0
thank yourself for that since you can just flash it yourself. that's the beauty of having a Nexus if you don't remember.
27. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 22 Jul 2012, 20:39 2 0
When you have a Nexus device you shouldnt have to unlock, root, and put a custom rom over it JUST to get an update that has been available for months on Sprint and the GSM version. I'm sorry but Verizon is very well known for slow updates.
32. KingKurogiii posted on 22 Jul 2012, 22:27 0 0
who said anything about it being available to the Sprint version? xD so far the only Galaxy Nexus that has "Officially" gotten JB is the unlocked GSM version.
26. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 22 Jul 2012, 20:32 4 0
I have had Android Jelly Bean since one day after Google I/O 2012. Now since they released the source I have been on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for quite a long minute.
Root your Samsung Galaxy Nexus & you don't have to worry about Verizon ever. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the BEST phone I have ever used. With Jelly Bean the GNex is like a totally different phone. It's EVEN faster than the new beast of all phones the Samsung Galaxy S III.
Yes the benchmarks are no where near the Samsung Galaxy S III but side by side the GNex on Jelly Bean just smokes the SIII. It's smoother & faster. I know cause I compared my boys SIII. Jelly Bean REALLY makes a difference. Apps load faster, it truly never lags & it's just VERY polished.
Trust me root your phone. The GNex is the worlds most supported phone ever. There are tons & tons of ROMS.

The GSM version has the update. Verizon is the cause of your delay.
15. protozeloz posted on 22 Jul 2012, 18:42 0 0
considering Google had its PDK Going on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuC0i4xTyrI&feature=player_detailpage#t=1849s) so I would expect slow updates to eventually become a thing of the past too
23. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 22 Jul 2012, 19:44 0 0
JB is so good and every1 can see that if you are slow to upgrade you will lose market share, so we have the race who upgrade first unlike previous versions of Android.

Wao amazing but how will look svoice is crap my opinion google now will better jelly bean i dont like is dark color needs to be brite bcs when i hold my phone in daylight idont see the phone how they fix tha
18. Benjammin posted on 22 Jul 2012, 19:15 0 0
That would be awesome! I'm especially looking forward to seeing how fast and smooth everything is going to run on JB. Of course Verizon will probably take months just to make sure they lock us out of any options to upgrade or customize our Android phone. Then they'll add a bunch of useless apps that it takes a friggen genius to figure out how to uninstall.
I really don't see what Verizon gains by locking down the bootloader. The phone is rootable thanks to some workarounds, so we can already tether and hot spot for free, so why not let us put in custom ROMS if we want? Are there really that many people calling Verizon going, "I just installed Cyanogen Mod, and now my GPS isn't working". I mean why don't they just say, "if you mod your phone, we can't provide support". That seems fair.

Well I know the att gs2 won't be getting It soon. But hopefully Samsung will roll out an official jellybean for the international version and that translates into an updated Gapps and AOKP soon after. Then I'll be one happy camper.

samsung is shiit not giving update to most capable phones.
so not to buy midrange phones from samsung
37. ChafedBanana posted on 22 Jul 2012, 23:57 0 0
Verizon will probably take 6 months so I'm giving my SGSIII back and sticking with my rooted Galaxy Nexus running Vicious Jelly Bean. It's freaking amazing. No lag whatsoever. The SGSIII is a better phone, hardware wise, but I can't stand TouchWiz and waiting on Verizon. I'll never have another Verizon phone with a locked boot loader.

Guys,
Since am New to rooting & had a quick question.
If I look to root my phone & install a JB ROM from xda, will it wipe out the custom Sense UI skin on the phone & give me pure JB?
Am using HTC Desire HD
45. script_writer posted on 23 Jul 2012, 03:18 0 0
your phone may not be able to handle jellybean as they are still umming and arring about giving it ICS
50. VJo003 posted on 23 Jul 2012, 09:02 0 0
Thanks.
To answer the question on theory than practicality, will installing a custom ROM of ICS/JB imply I would be able to enjoy unadulterated & blot free Android or will Sense UI still prevail?
55. clevername posted on 23 Jul 2012, 20:52 0 0
If you install a custom rom you won't have sense ui anymore.
44. script_writer posted on 23 Jul 2012, 03:17 0 0
already have jellybean on my galaxy nexus and am never looking back. the sooner they push it to the galaxy note the better cos then my bro will have it too
48. networkdood posted on 23 Jul 2012, 08:52 0 0
I could care less about updates - you all know it comes out at a slow pace....
I just go on XDA and grab the latest update there - I have had Froyo, GB, JB on my captivate way before an AT&T version was released.
On my RAZR, I have had ICS since FEB.
51. zupermario posted on 23 Jul 2012, 09:11 0 0
Well, maybe it would be nice if true; would like to try Jelly Bean, after the debacle,(in my humble opinion,) that was ICS for GS2 i777. Back on Gingerbread 2.3.6 GS2 i777...much happier!!

I'm only saying, The SGS3 seems likely to get 4.1.1 soon, but SGS2... I feel like they will take a little longer to roll that out, it would give more motivation for those impatient people with one to upgrade and it is an "outdated" device, and I say that in quotations as in it's only because there are now a new line of higher end phones to replace it with, it's still a good phone, but it's not quite a priority. I could be entirely wrong though, I do like seeing a lot of people getting updates!
