Japan's DoCoMo on carrying the iPhone: meh, it's too expensive and 'like Disneyland'

0. phoneArena 28 Jun 2013, 07:11 posted on

DoCoMo's Senior Executive Vice President Kazuto Tsubouchi said that times are changing, and, despite that the iPhone is a very well-balanced smartphone, it is no longer the best in terms of hardware, and Android offers well-balanced handsets as well at this point...

Sorry, but DoCoMo's bloatware... I can't believe they tried to compare it to Snoopy. Snoopy is awesome -- bloatware is not.

Check Verizon's apps in the Play Store. I don't think I've ever seen any rated over 3.0 except maybe like NFL or My Verizon Mobile. You know, because they'll lube you up if you go over your tiny data limit?

But in fact Japanese people are freaking crazy to Apple's devices. When I came to Japan, I have to exclaim "The number of iPhone 5 (5, not 4s, not 4) is f*cking damn high"
From a secondary school girl to a 50 year-old man, iPhone 5 is dominating.

P/s: That is the thing I don't like the most in Japan, lol

Iphone does not suck. Iphones always were high-end phones. Iphone 4 was king when it released, iphone 4s was not king but it was still one of the best phones, and iphone 5 is still a high-end phone, iphones were always great as phones, as a piece of hardware, but it runs IOS which lacks in comparison to android, but still better than WP.

High end? It's a great display and a good GPU. After that it's all pretty mediocre coupled with the best marketing.

It's a really solid device that will work for a whole lot of people... but high end is a term I wouldn't apply to the iPhone, unless sticker price counts.

DoCoMo should offer choice. While I can agree with much of his theory, expanding the consumer access to more products, only retains or elevates the business model. I don't think he has a handle on what his customers actually want. Basing it on consumers as a whole, doesn't mean no one will want the iPhone on his network. He needs to open up.

I totally agree. He says that they offer "their own services" on Android which won't work on iOS. So then just make that clear to the customers and let them make the choice. It reminds me of VZW always wanting to load their crap services on their phones as if we care. I don't use Iphone, but I admire the way they were able to dictate to carriers what can be on their phone.

Actually, I agree with everything he said. It all comes down to finance, real revenue and profitability. With all the subsidizing, many are not making money on the iphone, they are losing and just using it as a marketing piece in hopes of selling more expensive plans, etc. And his analogy is funnnnnnyyyyyyyy!!! I love me some snoop! HaHaHa!. In otherwords, they can't see a profit when they look at projections on phones, cost, etc. AND THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE.

you can never read a phonearena article without the words 'apple' and 'iphone' being mentioned.seriously you'd think that after all the crushing blows android has been laying down on apple and iOS it's so very relevant.but then again,it's the brand value which apple carries.hate them or love them..they are always a huge part of a conversation concerning the tech world no matter how forgone their os is or no matter how tiny that 4 inch screen is.
