Okay, I found that if if you turn off things like Air View, Air Gesture, S Beam, NFC, and all the Smart Stay and Scroll things, your GS4 will heat up much less, I have been using mine for about 2 hours with all these options turn design off, and it's only slightly warm where my hands are because I held them on that one spot for 2 hours, believe me, just turn off all the stuff you don't need and close all the unwanted applications, it will not heat up that much. And by by the way, I have a hard case on, so my phone should be getting much warmer..

I purchased my Galayx S4 2 months ago. Just last week, I noticed that when I was playing an online game for less than 5 minutes, my phone shutsdown and when turning back on, the battery status reported empty and shuts down again, even when it was still over 60% before I played the game! I removed the battery and waited for a minute and the battery is back to 60% of something like that.

However, just yesterday, as I was browsing Facebook and google, the same thing happened, shuts down and when on would report a battery empty and shuts down. I then again removed the battery and waited, then put it back and turn it on again, but then my phone would hangup and shutsdown and once again reported 0% battery when on and shuts back down. So my phone has to be reconnected to a charger to make it back on as the old trick of removing the battery for a short time doesn't seem to work anymore.

Is this a software or a hardware issue for S4? Can anyone help?

Thanks so much.

arnealf,
I have the exact same problem. I am about getting ready to try a new battery. I'll then try resetting to see if it's software issues. If not, I'll just assumed that I fried something because of "over" playing.

Keep posting if you find a solution!

I have the galaxy s4 active and I am having this problem. Not only is it heating up like crazy, but the screen goes crazy and it freezes. Have to take the battery out and put it in front of a fan or something to cool it down. It's hearing up now as I type this message.

Yes, mine just started doing this. I was filming a video for my website and the thing shut off due to heat. The camera, not the phone. I tried a reboot and I will see what happens.

I have my Galaxy S4 in a case which I can keep in my trouser pocket. I sometimes feel the phone getting VERY HOT and I only use it for calls and txt with very occasional browsing. It cannot be doing the internal components any good!
