Is a 5.2 inch LG Nexus 5, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, on the way?

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:20

With the rumor that we passed on Friday about the Motorola X being part of a whole new Dell-like way of customizing and purchasing a smartphone, we hope you have room for another dose of high stakes speculation; this rumor involves a 5.2 inch LG Nexus 5 that would be powered by the top of the line silicon from Qualcomm...

Would be amazing; sadly is false :(

13. Dr.Phil posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:41 12

It would be amazing if it were true. I like how the person put a screenshot from the unreleased "Watch Dogs" game on it. I think that is evidence enough that this is not real. However, out of the specifications listed, I do think it is possible for the next Nexus to have the new Snapdragon 800 processor along with a possibility of 3 GB of RAM. The only thing I questioned was the 16MP OmniVision camera. If the person had left that out, then I think more people would've believed his rumor.

Google usually chooses the most powerful SOC, they would most likely use a Tegra 4.

27. Guest_star posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:09 12

why do you think tegra4 is better than Snapdragon 800?

31. HDShatter posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:16

it scores a 35000 in antutu.

http://cdn01.androidauthority.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/antutu-galaxy-s4-htc-one-nvidia-tegra-4-1.jpg

Please note the Galaxy s4 used in the benchmark is a Snapdragon 600 version not the Exynos 5!

42. Guest_star posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:40 1

dude, that benchmark was done on the product that is not for sale and was pludged in the wall meaning who knows how high it was clocked and how much power it needed for that score. You can't trust something like that until you see the SoC in a phone/tablet that is announced and ready for sale, if tegra4 menages that results in retail device than it surely is the most powerful SoC of its time, until then just wait and see, this rumor is probably fake anyway

105. user312 posted on 17 Mar 2013, 18:06

Those phones were using snapdragon 600 not 800, snapdragon 800 would blow that away.

106. bayusuputra posted on 18 Mar 2013, 00:16

well, the whole dev community knows, AnTuTu is something VERY VERY RELIABLE! /s

84. BesnikRrustemi posted on 16 Mar 2013, 16:36 1

for my opinion it is like this:
Nvidia Tegra 4i is smaller and built-in LTE in the chipset
so it means:
Better Games (tegra are known for great gaming graphics & special Effects)
Bigger Battery (because of smaller size- more space on the phone for bigger battery)
Better Photos (tegra 4 has special features for photos)
and its cheaper than snapdragon 800

32. robcar posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:16

It's not Google how build the phone it's LG.

LG will us Snapdragon for top performance and developers support.

33. HDShatter posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:19

If the phone version of the Tegra 4 isn't ready by the time a new Nexus is due they would use the snapdragon 800.

36. weinerslav posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:23

Well, who knows, maybe it's real, maybe it isn't, but sadly for the sony and htc fans, it seems lg is the one pushing the envelope and going for samsung's neck, so I would be more surprised if they give us a dull thing than this. We have to wait and see, lg gave us some cool phones with terrible flaws the latest years so maybe they are redeeming themselfs with this lol

108. CanYouSeeTheLight posted on 18 Mar 2013, 07:08

Errr, what? LG? You mean the guys that don't update their phones? LG gives a bad name to Android, except on the Nexus 4. The new HTC One is made to compete with the Galaxy S IV and it got my attention more than the Galaxy, it looks like a better overall phone, they didn't forget any single aspect of the phone, from speakers, to the build, to the screen, etc. Galaxy S IV is just a bigger screened S III with a better camera and bigger battery which learned new tricks.

38. Droid_X_Doug posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:34

Even if it were 'real', LG wouldn't make enough of them, and the Play store would remove ordered phones right out of your cart as you were attempting to check out....

Maybe tablets with the S800 will be in production by 3Q2013, but I doubt phones will be.

76. Dr.Phil posted on 16 Mar 2013, 15:49 1

October is considered Q4 not Q3. Also, Qualcomm already announced in January that the Snapdragon 800 chipset would indeed be found in smartphones by the middle of this year. In fact, one of the versions of the ZTE Grand Memo announced a while back is supposedly going to feature a Snapdragon 800 processor.

85. darkkjedii posted on 16 Mar 2013, 16:45 1

Remember when everyone wondered if the N4 was true. I firmly believe "although I could be wrong" that this is the next nexus device.

55. technut posted on 16 Mar 2013, 12:26

Agreed. Besides, chances are the next Nexus will be introduced at the Google I/O conference, held May 15-17, 2013 in Moscone Center, San Francisco.

57. jcarrigan posted on 16 Mar 2013, 12:36

Yeah this wont come out for at least 1 1/2 yr because this is basically the perfect phone that the U.S. could have so this wont be a reality for awhile sadly because its been 5 years since ive onwed an lg device :(

67. som posted on 16 Mar 2013, 14:27 7

LG copied from HTC ONE and Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

88. jcarrigan posted on 16 Mar 2013, 18:28 3

everyone copied everyone! There isnt an original idea in the wireless industry so lets just get over that please.

That's a Monster one dude.....and powerful like a chitaah........!!! great news android fans.....!!! wait for this or get HTC one or Xperia Z or ZL, and don't rush for S4 you can get if u like samsung but i don't think you will se difference between s3 except some new features......!!!

75. Atrixboyyy posted on 16 Mar 2013, 15:47 1 2

90. nobelset posted on 16 Mar 2013, 19:45

No, if this was true and you are a human who can think, you would never go for any other phone this year other than this. Sad, a phone that has no difference over its predecessor is more powerful than flagship phones this year who made giant leaps from theirs

100. nexusalltheway posted on 17 Mar 2013, 08:46

Why are u against GS4? Of-course all phones are at the stage where not much features will be diff from one to another. You get a better hardware and some "new features" Take an example of iphone 4, 4s, and 5 and even I don't think we will see a whole new phone with 5s.
Having said that, we wont see too many changes in NEXUS-X or Nexus-5 from Nexus-4. So, dont trash talk other phones.

104. akki20892 posted on 17 Mar 2013, 14:51

sorry guys.....all phones are great........!!!

Someday.. Smartphone will be more powerfull than ur PC at home..

11. ebubekir26 posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:33 10

no, but smartphones are getting faster, like the laptops on 2010 or 2011,
but don't forget pc's and laptops are getting better an better too

15. exor430 posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:46

It only possible if there is not a single innovation in PC. What highest end smartphone this year can do? Just surfing internet, viewing document, sharing file, playing flash game faster but not better..

54. Secondhead posted on 16 Mar 2013, 12:25

Lets see what smartphone bring to us today.. Even better and better.. I mean for a worker like me only have amd quadcore 4 gig of ram and 1 gig of vga is really enough for work.. And didnt have a plan to upgrade for 3 or 4 years.. Not like a smartphone.. We always wanted to upgrade it.. Thats how I said before.. Someday our smartphone more powerfull than our pc :)

107. bayusuputra posted on 18 Mar 2013, 00:18

Well, as a starter, my 8X is theoretically more powerful than my netbook.

6. OptimusOne posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:25 7

If this is true, then this is my new phone!!!!

If LG markets the hell out of this, I can see it beating the Galaxy s4

20. HDShatter posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:58 8

Samsung will probably spend more on advertising the S4 than the amount of $ LG will make from the phone lol.

7. techsavvy.jaz posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:28 4

16MP not 16GB, just saying!

8. TheMaxColonel posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:29 2 1

When is there going to be a new Nexus 10? Keep the same resolution but add a better processor.

29. Taters posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:11 1 4

What? The Nexus 10 has the best processor currently available. Maybe the Qualcomm 800 might be able to beat it, but I doubt it. The thing is rated at 8w and the Exynos 5 Octa, Tegra 4i, and Qualcomm 800 probably throttles at 2w to be able to live off of a cell phone battery. Not sure if the Tegra 4 is for real but it could be more powerful if the benchmarks are true.

The Nexus 10 chip is a crazy power house A15 chip with no restrictions, similar to the A6X. Don't get confused here. The A6 in the iphone 5 only matches the A5X in the ipad 3 in fllops. the A6X is a whole different league, like the Exynos 5 dual in the Nexus 10 is a whole other league.

The reason it benches so low is stock Android 4.2.2 benches really low AND that screen has a ridiculous amount of pixels to push. It still runs amazing though.

50. bigstrudel posted on 16 Mar 2013, 12:09 2 1

The GPU is underpowered which is a pretty big problem with a 300+ ppi 10 inch tablet pushing a ton of pixels.

77. Taters posted on 16 Mar 2013, 15:49 1

The GPU is not under powered. It is pretty hardcore. Go read up on it more.

102. CanYouSeeTheLight posted on 17 Mar 2013, 09:53

Sorry you are lying to yourself if you think the Nexus 10's GPU is not underpowered, don't you know that the screen resolution of the Nexus 10 is too much for that GPU? It might play all games smoothly but i doubt it will have full effects, medium or low at best. The resolution is too high for any mobile GPU at the moment save for the upcoming Adreno 330, Mali-658 and Tegra 4's Geforce ULP. Would love to own a Nexus 10 but for the reason above i'm waiting for a new Nexus 7.

56. darac posted on 16 Mar 2013, 12:26 2 2

Uh, no.. scores around 2400 in Geekbench.
The S4 with S600 initial scores?
Over 3100

78. Taters posted on 16 Mar 2013, 15:51 2

Yes and the Exynos dual in the Nexus 10 would score way over 3100 if it had only a 1080p screen and touchwiz.

Please go to Anandtech and read up on it again please.

86. Taters posted on 16 Mar 2013, 17:07 1

Look at the Chrome book scores and not the Android 4.2.2 scores for a better idea of how powerful the Exynos 5 Dual is.

96. darac posted on 17 Mar 2013, 02:37 1

Your case is not good.

What would be S4's score on 720p display and a superlight Chrome OS?
That didn't crossed your mind?

97. darac posted on 17 Mar 2013, 03:27

Actually there is no geekbench score for Chromebook.
Apparently it's not supported:

I want a new Nexus 10 with a better camera, same resolution and a
better processor. I know it is very powerful but in the future there will be even better. and maybe make it a bit lighter :P

17. marchels14 posted on 16 Mar 2013, 10:54 1

5 inches should be the limit and everything else stuff in their, when will smartphone companies will understand that i dont want to carry a more then 5 inch flagship phone in my pocket after 2 years bigger size should be for phones like note series and i dont want to buy midrange or lover quality with their crappie specks but with right screen size.

24. HDShatter posted on 16 Mar 2013, 11:04

5" is the limit of phones. It is happening right now, phones are hitting their apex of their evolution like desktops and laptops have. It will still get better, but for example I doubt we will see phones with a bigger than 1920x1080 resolution for a while because its pointless to go any bigger. We will probably see phones get more powerful till they reach around desktop intel performance in ~5 years then it will flat line and be minor stuff like improving power consumption and gpu by a little every year.
