Is Samsung pushing the panic button on the Samsung Galaxy S5?
0. phoneArena 09 May 2014, 13:58 posted on
On Wednesday, Samsung pushed out the top man on the mobile design totem pole and gave him a new position running the company's design team. While a specific reason for the move wasn't mentioned, there is talk that the Korean based manufacturer is unhappy with the sales performance of its new flagship phone. It could be that the expectations at Samsung are high. After all, reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is outselling last year's Samsung Galaxy S4...

Jealousy can be contagious. Sammy has been lagging HTC in build and materials quality since the OG One. At some point, the criticism hits home. Denial lasts for only so long.

Its true that the design of galaxy S5 is really very ugly despite gs5 is a great device... I am some how a samsung's fanboy due to some reasons but still I admit, I am not at all happy or impressed with gs5's design

Thing is, every other Android manufacturer has their design philosophy down and their devices largely look pretty good and unique. Samsung had a head start on that from the S2, but then just went Apple and tried to make the look they have now synonymous with their name, which no one likes. They thought probably thought that, like Apple, they could just force it on people, but Apple caters to a different crowd, and so they didn't get the same effect. At least now they are listening to that criticism and I think they believe they gave their designers the time to prove the philosophy they were going with. Time is up and it is time for a change.

Samsung panicking? Are they losing market share like Apple? Nope. Are they losing hundreds of millions of dollars per quarter like HTC, Nokia(now MS)?? Nope. Interesting....

I guess Samsung reached rock bottom. They only have one #1 selling premium phone at the moment, and their tablets are only #1 selling android tablets.

SEE HOW THE iPROPAGANDA can make fool of temselves:
""While a specific reason for the move wasn't mentioned, there is talk that the Korean based manufacturer is unhappy with the sales performance of its new flagship phone."
In the same article with:
"After all, reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is outselling last year's Samsung Galaxy S4."
With few iALUMINUM BS , and they made bashing Samsung article for THE GREATEST smartphone today -S5.
Do this guys think that their readers are so dumb?

I read the article a few times to find evidence that Samsung is unhappy with S5 sales but found none.
One thing is for sure Alan F. guts feeling is that Samsung S5 is in trouble even when the number speaks otherwise.
The Ex Chief of Design move to form a new group also about design seem more like maximizing their talent pool for Special Project that will not affect normal operation and design life cycle of establish model.
Anyway, if HTC M8 is selling better its also good competition and HTC really need every single buck of cash infusion to keep a float.
Hope to make a good phone that has SDcard and removable battery. Yes! i still need removable battery as i travel a lot and the slow charging battery pack suck!!!

more like S-propaganda there,with S-plastic,S-fake leather,S-dot,S-hit and S-heep fanboy problems.

More like you're jealous of the success of the #1 player on the field.
57. Finalflash (Posts: 1805; Member since: 23 Jul 2013)
I didn't say they're panicking the retarded article headline did. I just said they are shifting design philosophies from the Apple method (because they are totally copying the same looking model to build image approach which Apple pretty much started with their iPhone repetition) to maybe a more consumer oriented give them what they want approach. Try to answer the comment instead of trying to hijack a position to showcase your retarded comment.

It is strange.....especially after this:
Or it could be they arent resting on their laurels.

It is quite amusing and interesting that you always manage to bring Apple into every possible article, regardless if Apple is mentioned or not

Well. All the bashing Samsung "articles" come from the Apple's propaganda. They are hiding now and pretending to be dissapointed Samsung users LOVING TO DEATH the ALUMINUM, but it doesn't help. Samsung is smashing their "religion", little by little(with S5 way too much , though)
They were bashing same way the GREAT Note 3 design and "leather". Now is time for the GREAT S5.
84. ecmedic4 (Posts: 202; Member since: 02 May 2013)
Lol your pathetic. Im amazed at the nonsense that comes from you, and whats even more amazing is that you actually believe the nonsense that comes from you. All this crap about Apple propaganda and conspiracies is nothing more than just that, crap. Im sorry to bring your fantasy crashing down but Samsung isn't smashing anything. The ppl that use Apple products are happy with them and could careless what samsung does with their designs. You may think samsungs designs are great, well good as you are entitled to your opinion just as much as anyone else, but I'm not sorry to inform you but not everyone agree's with your opinion. If someone thinks the designs of samsung phones aren't good, then it doesn't mean its Apple propaganda, it means someone actually thinks that the design isn't that good. Get over your Apple hate and your stupid conspiracies and accept that some ppl simply have different opinions. Or in other words, GROW UP.

some people learn things the hard way...
I hope that samsung has learned its lesson...
Good luck with all your future designs samsung...

come on samsung bring some mind blowing designs and prove to this world that u are No.1...
11. akki20892 (Posts: 3563; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
Samsung: sorry buddy, we r popular in this category.
60. The-Sailor-Man (Posts: 1027; Member since: 25 Mar 2014)
"hard way.."??? Samsung???
Samsung is killing everything around. And get stronger.
Bet on , that they will KILL your lovely ALUMINUM, too(the worst material for smartphones)
85. ecmedic4 (Posts: 202; Member since: 02 May 2013)
Why is samsung possibly bringing out an even higher specced version of the S5 then? Possibly with aluminum build material also if they weren't fully satisfied with the current S5. Keep living in your fantasy world buddy, I'm sure its a very happy place.
8. bbblader (Posts: 580; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
I know the One has the better design, but if I had the money to buy a high end phone and choose by the design it would be anything but the One. I like the design, but as a 15 year old this design doesn't seem to fit me. It just yells ''a businessman design''. I like it,but it isn't for me. Just like the design of the S5 isn't for other people and like the G2 isn't the right design for other people. Everyone has an opinion, but mine isn't denial. My opinion is what feels right for me. Just like your opinion is what feels right for you.
18. Lauticol (Posts: 201; Member since: 25 Jun 2011)
I'm 18 years old, and last year I bought an HTC One M7. It's design doesn't yell "bussinessman", it yells "Premium"
36. amiaq (Posts: 482; Member since: 30 Jun 2012)
Ahh.. M8 is too pretty for me, buying M8 is like dating Miranda Kerr or driving Range Rover Evoque, I will look odd next to either of them.
62. The-Sailor-Man (Posts: 1027; Member since: 25 Mar 2014)
Why don't you both "18 years old" old0fart jokers, meet and talk about the "premium"-"bussinessman" ALUMINUM POS, and leave us alone?
30. 0xFFFF (Posts: 3333; Member since: 16 Apr 2014)
Because that giant fake chrome band around the GS5 screams "businessman design" like nothing else.
23. tedkord (Posts: 4955; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
When you're outselling the competition 10 to 1, I doubt you're very jealous. The S5 likely sold more on day 1 than the One M8 has in total.
33. 0xFFFF (Posts: 3333; Member since: 16 Apr 2014)
NIcely said. I might add that there is the age old adage -- "familiarity breeds contempt".
Samsung has recycled their old designs so many times, the "S" in "S5" should stand for "same". The design is tired and old. Time for something fresh.
63. The-Sailor-Man (Posts: 1027; Member since: 25 Mar 2014)
Why are you so concerned iboy? You'll never buy anything but apple logo anyway?
Please don't help Samsung to smash Apple and their friend HTC even more, with your great advises.

Wasn't a mind blowing phone. Think that's what people are looking for and expecting lately.
4. bugsbunny00 (Posts: 1154; Member since: 07 Jun 2013)
yes its true and everybody knows it. so no panic.
5. teerex42 (Posts: 163; Member since: 14 Jun 2012)
Who cares, they still outsell HTC by millions!! The design must not be that bad! Actually I prefer the build of the S5 over the HTC (8). It looks more premium to me and the leather like perforated back looks and feels awesome on the S5. Do they need a new design? Sure it wouldn't hurt, but in the long run they are the smart phone maker to beat as usual!!
13. akki20892 (Posts: 3563; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
Who cares, if they outsell HTC by millions, we all love HTC One M8, its gorgeous, looks outstanding in crowd, and attractive on hand. And they need different design in at least flagship....
67. Arte-8800 (banned) (Posts: 4562; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
Samsung always thinks cheap
Cheap low class degrading plastic which has no prestige
6. robert26101 (Posts: 84; Member since: 21 Mar 2014)
Um no SamMobile is reporting that S5 just beat the S4 record by two days. The S4 sold 10 million in 27 days and the S5 sold 10 million in 25 days.
9. robert26101 (Posts: 84; Member since: 21 Mar 2014)
Lg, HTC and other's are the one's that should be jealous. S5 is out selling the HTC, and LG or any other phone manufacturer is not gonna fair any better.
12. emadshiny (Posts: 1135; Member since: 05 Dec 2012)
This going to be a tough year for Sammy.
15. robert26101 (Posts: 84; Member since: 21 Mar 2014)
Says who? You must be thinking of HTC or LG because they would kill to sell as many phones as Samsung has sold of the S5. The S5 is the number 1 selling android device and still going strong.
79. jroc74 (Posts: 4966; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Maybe in the TV or fridge dept? For phones....you seem to not know how well the S5 is doing...
17. npaladin2000 (Posts: 134; Member since: 06 Nov 2011)
Hmm, guess the free ride is over for Sammy. Now they have to figure out how to keep people coming back. Instead of going to LG.
20. hassoups (Posts: 374; Member since: 06 Jun 2013)
if a comment didn't have to be between 5 and 3000 characters, i'd simply reply with a 'lol'.
77. npaladin2000 (Posts: 134; Member since: 06 Nov 2011)
Well, it is a problem. Apple faced the same thing, how do you get someone who already has one to come back to you instead of standing pat or going to someone else. I don't think Samsung's got the formula. Brand loyalty is harder in the Android world, and with HTC offering better materials, LG offering better battery life, and Motorola offering a better (or at least cleaner) user experience, what's the selling point for Samsung? Feature bloat?
19. yellowdgg (Posts: 2; Member since: 09 May 2014)
well if they would stop releasing new phones every month we might be impressed!!
40. engineer-1701d (Posts: 1066; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
they cant because there is so many android makers that if they let go and do few they may lose alot of people and money. no no no no no you cant say anything about apple here because there is only one apple phone maker, apple if sam and htc and lg and others could make a apple os phone then apple would be in trouble but they dont have to.
21. alouden (Posts: 205; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
Perhaps, despite the sales and generally positive feedback, they are concerned that the whole "build issue" will catch up with them. Maybe not with the S5, but with later phones. I suspect that it may become an issue. For now, they are lucky HTC insists on features that limit their phones' appeal.
24. gabrielvoica (Posts: 57; Member since: 05 Mar 2013)
''While the Galaxy S5 is surely outselling the HTC One (M8), the latter model appears to have a higher quality build. ''....
it just ''appears'' to have high quality build or it's not that obvious to you yet?
playing the subtle biased articles again are you not?
i would not consider the s5 after all the issues i had with all my samsung's in the past...the s2 was the only good one, after that...nothing good...
and yes,S5 is ugly...s4 looked a lot better to me than the s5...i don't see you complaining about the huge bezels of the s5 like you do with other phones...and when you ask 700e for this ,i as a consumer not a fanboy, expect quality...and no,plastic is not quality ...they ask huge amounts of money for very cheap plastic and other Oem's do the same...
25. gabrielvoica (Posts: 57; Member since: 05 Mar 2013)
and ''shipped'' doesn't mean ''sold''...
i doubt you have the sales numbers from both companies so you are making some bold assumptions..
26. cornerofthemoon (Posts: 514; Member since: 20 Apr 2010)
I don't mind Samsung's fantastic plastic. Metal phones looks great but without a case they just get banged up and scratched to hell in a matter of days.
27. pwnarena (Posts: 940; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
sammobile says the company sold 10 m s5s in 25 days
28. PBXtech (Posts: 980; Member since: 21 Oct 2013)
The true test will come when SS Releases the high end S5. If sales of that overshadow the standard S5, they know what to do. Either way this is a good thing for SS, they have gotten a wake up call that they cannot keep pushing standard phones year to year. Personally, the Design 3.0 mockup that was released some time ago was outstanding, if they'd have released that phone I'd be using it now instead of my G2.
41. engineer-1701d (Posts: 1066; Member since: 13 Mar 2014)
i still love my gs3 if it was not for sprint i would not change the s4 and s5 suck i expect better design from them more like the concept of the gs5 now the gs6 concept.dont care about bezel that much i need sound in front or corners angled like the one plus one.
45. PBXtech (Posts: 980; Member since: 21 Oct 2013)
I had a S2 on Sprint, outstanding phone. I gave it to a co-worker, he still uses it regularly.
29. Imaxxacre (Posts: 57; Member since: 23 Aug 2009)
I know that HTC doesn't always have superior build quality. I owned the Evo 3D and the damn thing fell apart after less than a year. My brother's Evo 3D fell apart around the same time.
