Is Apple's war against Google hurting iOS?

0. phoneArena 08 Aug 2012, 09:55 posted on

One of the first quotes from the biography of Steve Jobs to really catch fire was when he allegedly said that he would wage "thermonuclear war" on Google because of he perceived Android to be a copy of Apple's iOS...

Oh please! I don't think any Fandroid says 'iOS sucks because it doesn't have LVP' There are more than one advantages of Android over iOS.
What you are wrong about is calling flyover cool but at the same time bashing widgets and LVP's.

It would be a bad idea switching to Bing because they'll be in the same position in a couple of years when windows phone catches on. They should just switch to yahoo search. It's not popular but most users are familiar with it and it's already an option in iOS.

The war will hurt APPLE if it carries on too long - high end android products have already proven that they are better than any iphone.
Apple will continue to sell to those who are blind to the real innovators.

Great article Michael.

This is really funny how iOS fans are viewing this as a negative article, when there is not one derogatory remake about the OS or phone. He's not saying that the iPhone is a bad phone, or that the OS is bad or anything like that. All he's saying is that removing all of the features and apps that made the iPhone and iPad such great devices may "possibly" harm the user experience. And no matter how much you love your iDevice, you have to know that doing a bing search, or DuckDuckGo search, or not having direct access to YouTube when you click on a link is going to change the experienc. No one says "I'm going to post is video to Vimeo". How many times have you heard someone say, "I don't know what that is. Let's 'bing' it"! People say lets "Google" it!

The only way to tell what a Google-less iOS experience would be like is to see it when it comes out. No one here knows what it will be like, not even Michael. But what he did here is what writers do all the time...he prognosticated! He imagined using using iOS without some of its most popular features and paint a picture of what it would be like for us on the consumer end. It's what they refer to as JOURNALISM!

That is exactly my issue with fanboys. More often than not, they go looking for insults and find them in places where they don't actually exist.

""I don't know what that is. Let's 'bing' it"! People say lets "Google" it! "

That reminded me... the other day I heard the most funny thing ever, I was doing some work and someone popped, we had a nice conversation for a while and all of a sudden he said he asked how he could remove bing because he does not like to "Google Things on bing, But likes to Google Things on Google" when he tried windows 8 LOL

Oh i remember. I've been looking for something positive to say about Apple, but it's been a bit of a lull for them, at least in the mobile space. 10.8 looks pretty nice. I'm looking forward to something good happening with the iPhone 5. I'm starting to worry about Tim Cook though. It looks like he needs to give more power to Jony Ive, because if the mockups we've seen are real, the iPhone 5 isn't going to be visually striking enough.

I love knowing that Google doesn't rely on apple for anything to make a great Android experience.

refers to new article "Google adding voice-powered to iOS app". Is this sign of iOS user are hurting? Come on man, to be realistic. There are many advantages if google maintain apps by themself on iOS. don't make this thing is a very complicated problem. we, as the users just sit and enjoy the war and competitiveness. we are not civils in the middle of physic war, we are in the middle of business war.

Sorry Mr. Heller, at your article, you just react by recent news but you don't see the history.

You think I don't see history, but I'm not sure that you see the majority of users. You can't use the generic "we" because that's referring to readers here who are farther along the user curve than most. The problem is that most users don't care enough to dig into their devices like you guys do, and most don't really go into the app store of whatever device they have all that often. Many users only use the stock apps, and maybe a few games that someone tells them about.

So, having options in the app store isn't the same as having it built into the device, especially since all Apple apps get priority. We're not talking about Android where you can change the default app for anything from voice command to the browser to media players. This is an Apple device where anything from the App Store is at a big disadvantage.

in my opinion, the removal of the youtube app isn't a big deal and so is the removal of the maps app. Google said they'll release both apps so I'm sure if an iOS user really wants the app they can download it. Don't really think this is a big deal….

Bobfreking55 true apple does do this, that's why have the best quality product but to assume that these companies are gonna start turning down apple's services is just the dumbest s**t I've ever heard. apple is the richest company on the planet. these companies profit off apple's business. these companiesare smart. they're making money off aple for this so the aren't gonna stop now. whether you like to admit it or not apple has a loyal group of followers who just like to have a phone that syncs easy with they're mac computer. they will always sell big so they will always get parts from these companies. that's just how it works. they truly are the smartest in the business

Apple, self-acknowled design thief, who has been stealing and bragging about it as far back as when they stole the Xerox Park ideas which Apple called its OWN User Interface, has completely alienated me.

I can't take that kind of hypocracy, and don't have to. I will not buy or recommend ANYthing from that company, and, recommendations is my JOB!
