How exactly did ICS not live up to expectations? It's not even on 5% of the devices atm, ffs.

Its good that Google thinks ICS didn't live up to expectations, it encourages them to make an even smoother OS that will be better for us and easier to use. First thing I said when i saw this was "whyyyyyy" but after thinking about it, Jellybean might be a good thing for the summer, It will make android even more popular and maybe tablet makers will skip ICS and get straight to JB (not Justin Bieber)

it's not the os SMOOTHER it's the hardware better ICS is definately heavier to handle by the hardware than 2.1, 2.2 or even 2.3

Yes, but it's smoother because android takes use of the phone's hardware

ICS really isn't moving much slower than other updates especially considering the fact that it is such a large one.

Yes, how did ICS not live up to expectations? If the issue is speed of roll-out, I would imagine a similar under-achievement will occur for Jelly Bean.

This don't make no sense how can ICS not live up to somethin its not even on? Wait until everybody gets a chance to get it besides dam NEXUS or Rom people. Everybod wants the dam update but manufactures are taken they dam time to roll it Ight because they're tryin to skin it or have customers buy new devices with it preloaded my vote goes to the latter it all boils down to money and they want us the consumer to spend more of it.

This will probably be the only time I agree with Miz, but this is DEFINITELY a case a PA either helping to spread unfounded rumors or simply having a quota to fill and just copy and pasting articles from other sites to generate page views. ICS is WIDELY ACCLAIMED as the BEST mobile OS around. Certainly the best iteration of Android. Smh...

Lol what a joke, everyone has been raving about ICS I highly doubt google is upset with it. If anything maybe they're disappointed with chrome OS.

man i wish i could get paid to spread baseless rumors.

And i see that its optimised for tablets. Does this mean that we are going back to the ginger bread/honey comb nonsense?

How did Ice cream sandwich not live up? It is only on 4 devices on the US nd has not had a chance to be on other devices and their user interface. It made the Xoom and prime a better device. Roll out this version first and than make plans for a new update. On a phone and tablet, ics is great IMO.

You haven't used an ICS Device yet, maybe Google have played around with it & has realised that it doesn't just cut it, so they want to introduce Android 5.0 quickly.

Failing to live up to what expectations?

Why would JB be tablet optimized when the purpose of ICS was to unify the phone and tablet OS?

For shame Alan, for shame...

I'm actually curious what expectations ICS hasn't lived up to as well. However, I will say this:

If an Android laptop is ever released, and it contains the functionality of a Windows laptop (hardware and software) I will dump Microsoft and never look back.

android 4 is practically acclaimed as the best mobile OS right now.
so it definitely doesn't under achieve.
speed of system adoption is another matter, and I don't see how that could change with jelly beans.

but I do see Google wanting to beat windows 8 by releasing a full fledged operating system..after all, they said android 5 will be a game changer

..and oh, I second that, Sniggly!
only that future laptops won't really be laptops but tablets with keyboard dock/laptops with touch screens and detachable keyboard..whatever you want to call them

You know what, I'm all for a modular system if it can give me the practical use, power and compatibility that a traditional laptop provides.

We're already getting close with tabs like the Transformer Prime. Modular system, takes the place of a small laptop, has the processing power of a 500ish price range quad core. All it's really missing are a large storage drive and a CD/DVD drive.

If Ice Cream Sandwich has problems then Google can patch and update it like, Android 4.1.2, 4.2.2...etc. But releasing a major update this year would be ridiculous. ICS has just started getting on some devices moreover new smartphones still come with Gingerbread with OTA ICS update. So it would be reasonable for google to let this year flow with Ice Cream Sandwich. In this way more ICS bug will be fixed and more improvement will be made. This would also help to improve Jelly Beans.

Utter nonsense that they can say ICS has underperformed considering it's limited rollout and infancy. Yes Windows 8 will be a threat but this just seems reactionary, ill considered and premature.

if by "failed to live up to expectations" you mean "the absolute best android OS by far", then I agree with you. I think someone got ICS and HC confused. lol. HC was a partial fail.

My phone runs better than ever, on an unofficial ICS ROM. I cant wait to play with a phone with official support (and even better ROMing! :) )

As much as I love improvement, I don't understand this. ICS was a platform designed around tablets and phones. It's yet to get any major updates (i.e. there's no Android 4.1) and overall reviews of it were phenomenal. How did it fall flat? I understand Google wants to protect and expand market share, but this prediction seems highly unlikely to me.

Wait a second, did I read this right? "dual operating system functionality..." So does this mean (if the rumors turn out to be true) I could have both Windows Phone 8, and Android 5.0 on the same phone/tablet. Holy crap, that sounds amazing but i'm sure I must have read this wrong.
