The blackberry is the only phone that requires the data plan and yes it's because of the agreement vzw has with RIM. It is not possible to pay per use (1.99/mb) with the blackberry. So if you want a vzw BB be prepared to spend a lil more per month for the service. Other smartphones, however, do not require a data plan. You can pay per use with them or just have it blocked all together.

Smartphones that have a "pay as you go" feature are not billed $1.99/MB. They are billed 1.5 cents per kb. Which roughly equals $15/MB. While it is true you can have it blocked, you also lose the MMS feature. That means no pix/vid messaging...

Yeah I tried ordering it as well through the telesales, they are not taking orders as of yet.. Anyways this phone should be a decent phone and it seems its more or less comparable to the vx1000 voyager, but with beefed up specs, minus the qwerty keyboard. The Blackberry Thunder though should be a pretty good device as it's offering the new ui which the Bold for AT&T has.. As far as the iphone we all know that its a fun phone to use, but also remember Apple is working on making their ui a non proprietary program so eventually we might see an apple program on a Verizon phone and remember through history Verizon turned down the Iphone before Apple decided to go to AT&T so they must of been thinking that theres more fish out there than the Iphone.. Just something to think about..

32. (unregistered) posted on 24 Jun 2008, 16:58

they just didnt want to give apple the money they wanted!!! at&t were suckers!!!! verizon is pretty cocky about their system and phones!! system is wonderful here in vegas but phones are getting way better verizon is defintley king!!!!

159. (unregistered) posted on 25 Jun 2008, 21:44

actually there were several factors that made verizon pass up on the iphone. steve jobs and lowel mcadams couldn't come to an agreement. From verizon demanding vcast (which is windows media player based) being on the phone, to apple not allowing the phone be sold in verizon stores, they just couldn't make a good agreement. So both CEOS walked away from the idea. AT&T pretty much said "ok apple sounds good, we just want the product." When you have 2 CEOS that won't budge an inch, then you can't really get a solution that works for both companies. I respect both of them, it's how business goes.

36. The Zune Lune posted on 24 Jun 2008, 17:01

After 5-6 attempts, I was finally able to place my order. I am expecting it Thursday, however, because I didn't get through until after 5:00 PM.

37. (unregistered) posted on 24 Jun 2008, 17:01

I ordered it today through telesales on my 1st attempt and will have no later than 3 pm tomorrow.

38. (unregistered) posted on 24 Jun 2008, 17:01

I ordered from PA on the 3rd try. Couldn't order now, but she placed the order to go thru on Thursday. Called back 15 minutes later to see if I could change to overnight shipping and the CS rep told me that the order went thru and I should be able to call back in an hour or 2 and get a tracking number.
