Instagram for Android uncovers the ugly class war between iOS and Android

We have written a number of times about the absurdity of the fanboy wars and the absolute viciousness with which people attack each other over something as trivial as that person's choice in mobile phone. It is and...

Eyephone, cute...Let me guess you think your part of the illuminati? Guess what you're not, at best your a 3rd° F.M. and I doubt you even are a traveling man, and if you're claiming to be so, I am pulling your card...tell me brother where do you hail from? Don't try to be a part of something in which you have not a clue about. One last thing why don't you take down that avitar of the unspoken ones eye or I might have to show you a lesson or two in the square about what life is really about. Also I am quite wealthy although wait what kind of phone do I have, oh yes a Motorola Droid II GLOBAL in White. So this all of the sudden makes me a hunter/gatherer?

I still dont know what it is...
I agree its sad some ppl actually think like that. And dont care who knows...some comments are connected to real names. And real pics.
Some ppl take Android vs. iOS THAT serious? I should know....I've seen some of the comments on here

Same here. And interestingly, all these sites hyping Instagram don't care to say what it is. yes, I can search and find out but I think the first time a site reports it, it should mention what it is.

17. JeffdaBeat posted on 05 Apr 2012, 17:26 22 5
I don't think that's fair. I'm a big Apple Fanboy, but I wouldn't come close to saying those things.
Instagram is a hipster app in and of itself. Same goes with Path. These apps are small communities of people sharing their lives with each other. Hell, even I love the fact that Instagram isn't this big popular thing because there is less "noise" than Facebook. Now that it's been opened up to a much larger audience than just iOS, there will be more noise.
But people shouldn't assume that Android users are poor or have ruined Instagram. iOS users can take some pretty terrible photos as well. It's just now, you've got a larger audience that will take crappy pictures...the ratio is the same...but because the number is higher, the crappy picture count raises as well. Still, we have to get past this poor/rich crap. Having less money than someone else doesn't mean that you will automatically take crappy pictures. I'm from Detroit and a good portion of the time, I was taking photos of urban decay. Some of my favorite pictures.
Take good pictures...that's it.

No it's more than a small handful. The majority of iOS users including myself could give a rats ass about who's poor or rich and what photos users are posting. You want to take the behavior of a few and try to portray the entire base as idiots like those commenters which is wrong. From observing this forum,mi can tell you that there are just as many android idiots as there are iOS idiots. Too many times over, these fanboys take this crap too seriously.
116. remixfa posted on 05 Apr 2012, 20:24 6 2
sorry GH, but the majority of iOS users with brains are not the biggest posters on this board. The loud minority then ruins it for the silent majority. I didnt say no iOS users had brains, because thats completely untrue.. but the vast majority of posts on PA by iOS fans are by the local nutjubs like taco. Android definitely has its crazed fans as well, but since there seems to be more "android" posters these days it tends to keep the fringe from looking like the norm.. unlike the "iOS" side, where the fringe is the loud majority.

134. remixfa posted on 05 Apr 2012, 21:10 2 5
no, i didnt michael. I didnt call apple users chalupas, i said there were a few "chalupas" that used the exact terminology that you argued against in the article.
And what is a chalupa? Its a Mexican food... well, at least according to taco bell. know anyone on this board that uses such terminology and is named after a Mexican food? It was a sly way of pointing out that person without calling him out. I figured people would have made the connection. Guess I'll have to be more direct, lol.

I don't get how that STEREOTYPE still exists.. especially on these boards.. yet we have a few apple loving chalupas that still to this day say such absurdity. iPhones are now free (and going prepaid) and androids have a higher pricetag than the i4s. whatever old stereotypes there were due to pricepoint no longer have any validity ... and haven't for quite some time.
11. Tux4g63 posted on 05 Apr 2012, 17:12 5 3
I wasn't able to find any Android phone that cost more outright than the iphone does. The 64 GB version of the iphone retails for $850...
18. kcombs posted on 05 Apr 2012, 17:30 7 5
that's because the iPhone is overpriced by Apple. They still make 50% profit on the phone. They don't need to make that much they just do.
36. snowgator posted on 05 Apr 2012, 17:50 3 9
The iPhone is not overpriced, not as long as people are willing to line the street. If you were Apple and was the most valued company in tech, would YOU change?
47. kcombs posted on 05 Apr 2012, 18:12 4 5
iPhone 4s 16GB is $199 on contract (US)
my galaxy note 16GB is $299 on contract (US), both phones retail for the same it only costs apple $230 to make the phone, so tell me how selling it to people for $699 is not over priced? my galaxy note may cost the same, but they don't sell them to carriers for $699 like apple does. my note costs Samsung about the same to make, so why does apple sell them for more? it's not worth more.
60. taco50 (banned) posted on 05 Apr 2012, 18:45 6 10
You don't understand capitalism if you think the iPhone is overpriced.
84. kcombs posted on 05 Apr 2012, 19:14 3 3
I'm refering to the post above. It says " was not able to find any android phone that costs more then the 4s 64gb outright" you won't find any android phone for that price because they are not trying to screw carriers.
133. -box- posted on 05 Apr 2012, 21:09 1 0
Officially it may cost that much, but it actually costs much less
139. remixfa posted on 05 Apr 2012, 21:15 3 1
the note costs much more to produce than the iphone. Samsung spends billions a year in research to make those screens and chips. Other than the A5 chip in the i4, what new tech is in it that costs a premium? The note comes with a newer, less produced (and nicer) screen, more hardware like LTE and RAM, and Samsung has to pay licencing fees to Google for the Play store and Google apps.
30. remixfa posted on 05 Apr 2012, 17:45 3 4
most people dont buy outright .. they buy subsidized and the majority of iPhone 4s sales are the $150-20016gig version. LTE android phones dominate the 250+ contract pricing range. a very large portion of apples total sales comes from the free 3gs and the $50-100 i4. 8/10 of androids top sellers are "high end" and run 150-250. there is no justification for apple fan price snobbery.
look up the original unlocked price tag of the European Samsung note. 800+ if I remember correctly.
45. taco50 (banned) posted on 05 Apr 2012, 18:08 3 11
The majority of android phones sold are sub $100. Then there's prepaid which Apple doesn't do. Justvbecausevthe price may be listed at $299 doesn't mean that's a sold price. Android has constant fire sales through providers and companies like Amazon.
Any android phone that comes out you only need to wait a couple months to get it at 50% off or more.
119. remixfa posted on 05 Apr 2012, 20:28 3 2
apple is looking at prepaid and is already doing small regional carriers and discounting phones lower than on the prime carriers to get extra business. A large portion of apple's sales come from a free 3gs and a $50-100 i4. Your argument has no merrit.. as per usual.
138. -box- posted on 05 Apr 2012, 21:14 0 0
They may be under $100 but that's with a subsidized contact. The carrier buys the phones from the manufacturer, then sells then at an affordable price to the consumer. Most everywhere else on the world phones are sold without contacts at full price. Apple profits ridiculously off their products because they're made cheaply and sold with the largest markups in the industry.

Try Tag Heuer Racer or Tag Heuer Link.
Their price is "a little" bit more than that...
72. KingKurogiii posted on 05 Apr 2012, 19:01 3 4
if you paid $850 for an iPhone then not only are you rich you are also stupid and you don't spend very money well. i haven't paid more than $50 out of pocket for any of my phones since my Devour because i scheme and bury the costs by selling the phones i replace. now i'm rocking a Droid Razr.

It's not a stereotype. It's true. Apple users on average are wealthier, better educated and more tech savvy. This has been confirmed by multiple studies.
This is why you're a fanboy. You refuse to accept facts.
40. MichaelHeller posted on 05 Apr 2012, 17:56 14 4
That's exactly what a stereotype is: taking the perceived "average" and applying it to everyone. Not all stereotypes are negative, but all forms of stereotyping is reductive and troublesome.
48. taco50 (banned) posted on 05 Apr 2012, 18:13 5 8
Stereotyping is common sense. Media brainwashing has made people think its wrong to stereotype.
Having said that you have to be able to understand the difference between the individual and the stereotype. The stereotype doesn't always apply to the individual.
92. MichaelHeller posted on 05 Apr 2012, 19:28 5 2
Agreed, stereotyping can be common sense. Many forms of stereotyping is very good and even necessary. I will gladly hold on to the stereotype that all tigers are dangerous, because it may well save my life.
But, that's not the kind of stereotyping we're talking about. Saying that an Apple user is "more likely" to be more wealthy is a dangerous beginning to any argument. Because those kinds of statistics can be easily misleading. I'm quite sure that if you did the same study of iOS and Android, but made sure it was economically parallel, because again, Apple didn't have a cheap/free option until now, the numbers would bear out equality in user salary, education, tech skills, etc.
Just because Android has options for lower economic rungs doesn't mean anything as far as the overall quality of the platform, or even the user base. Just because someone grows up poor doesn't mean they're less intelligent, just that they may not have the same access to education.
