nokia needs to show off whatever the 900 will be and launch it world wide.. including america... with a big advertising push. they are doing it wrong. they need to push the flag ship with amazing specs, and especially one of nokia\'s well known top of the line huge cameras.... and then trickle out the middle n low end once interest is raised. The lumina is nice, but there isnt anything that screams \"i should buy this over the super samsung WP7 phones\" and most definately not \"i should buy this over android or iOS\".

Top selling phones in the world are almost all high end. i4, i4s, SGS2, SGS1 on and on.


And yes, taco, before you say something stupid about how i must think im smarter than them.. yea I most definatly could do it better.

Well I mean, they can't exactly expect an overnight change cab they?

They know that this isn't the first smartphone, let alone the first Windows phone right?

Ima bet they lost a lot of Nokia loyals to Samsung and HTC while they were preparing this (me included) They cant expect people to be trading in their Galaxys and Sensations just to try WP7. A lot of people buy only 1 smartphone a year and this just came in too late. I would have loved to buy this but there are several problems

1. The Motorola RAZR
2. The recent slew of Super Samsungs
3. WP7 looks kinda boring
4. Rather high price.

This isn't Nokias fault, but they should have had more realistic expectations.

MS, Dell and Nokia have launched the OS and thier phones in the most retarded fashion ever.

No NA launch for the Nokia Lumia (FAIL)

Dell Launched what is arguably the best WP phone if not best smart phone in the market with NO advertising and only on its own website. (FAIL) Dell then blames WP and drops the Version 2.0 of the DVP (The Wrigley) due to their ignorance and bad sales tactics. (FAIL)

HTC only had the beastly sized HTC7 at T-mobile and it was buried in the back (in some stores you have to ask for it to find it) (FAIL)

Verizon and Sprint have ONE WP phone that came late, and they don\'t advertise them and nothing about them is any different than the Androids that litter the shelves. (FAIL)

Leaving MS to push advertising on some of the more mundane WP7s with AT&T who has a vested interest in iPhone. (FAIL)

MS Should have partnered with TMo and gave them all the good phones, especially the DVP. While AT&T was still locked in with the iPhone and before merger talks..

Dell should have sold the Dell Venue Pro at T-mo and AT&T STORES, along with big promotions at Best Buy for the unlocked version.

THEN people would know about the phones and WP7. People don\'t buy the phone for the OS half the time they buy them because they are cute or fit them. Android has a LOT of vendors in ALL carriers, and a lot of Form factors and colors. That\'s why they are still winning.

Dell should reboot, not drop the Wrigley, and launch with huge fanfare to all the Carriers OR MS needs to get with HTC or Nokia to make a Venue Pro style phone for all carriers to give them a phone that is DIFFERENT that says LOOK AT ME, I have something NEW to offer. THEN They will see the phone and THEN the OS..

Until there is a WINDOWSPHONE that is UNIQUE to the market (and I mean in form factor and style not just in OS) WP7 will be fighting a uphill battle.

Right now the only excitement in the WP7 realm is MS is pushing Tmo to sell the Radar, and hopefully that will pan out. At least its more in line with the size customers want and in White to make it look different. Only time can tell if that makes any difference there.

ideally its the right move, nokia - known for their beautiful designs - is pairing up with wp7 a beautiful smooth elegant os. but realistically, nokia shouldve gone with android in the first place. and of course, they should\'ve also come out with a bang of a device. true, wp7 on a single-core works better than dual-core-powered-android devices, but convincing people so, would be a waste of time, and time is a luxury nokia dont have.

I won't drive my point into the ground, but I really feel where Nokia and WP, along with all the other WP makers, end up by the end of 2012 means more than the launch right now. Microsoft is building to W8 on computers and Apollo for WP. Nokia has to be a part of that plan. I do think it is kinda strange that Nokia is only producing two mid-range style devices. But I am not as familiar with the overseas market. Nokia is.

Honestly, I just see good review after good review for all the WP devices. At some point, they have to break through, right? I mean, LTE and dual core is coming, a better CDMA presence is coming, a great brand is being built, an App catalog that should be closer to 100,000, and a serious marketing campaign, and they really will break through, right?

I mean..... right??????

I absolutely hate the argument that the WP7 OS is not exciting enough. I think Microsoft should really consider bolstering their ad campaigns based on the original concept of the OS, as if it is absolutely flawless, streamlined, and the easiest thing in the world to use. I believe they should coin the term metro and start throwing fists at the common interface design of iOS and Android. Imagine how powerful an ad that says \"we\'re better than Apple and Google\" could be. Essentially, (don\'t deny it) Android and iOS have almost identical UIs. I think a good way to market the concept would be a bunch of people lined up, swiping their fingers across the screens of devices looking through homescreens for their apps in a uniform fashion, one row of them on the right and the another on the left, either facing inward or outward, then implement the hero concept of a guy with a WP walking through this line of people, accessing everything with ease, at the end of the promo, he would initiate a call and one of the people messing with their non-WP7 devices phones would start ringing, and he won\'t be able to answer it because his phone is too complicated, we would close on the WP7 guy looking at his phone and giving an \"oh well, I guess his phone is too complicated to answer\" shrug and walking away.... I\'m a marketing major....

very poor screen resolution, no secondary camera for video calling, no full hd video, no dual core plus expensive price = bad sales!!!

Honestly I'm getting frustrated with MS and Nokia. The Lumia 800 got worse score than my 1yr old HD7. And Nokia had to make big advertisements just to sell. Not good. Frankly i don't see anything spectacular about the Lumia 800. Camera has same functionality as my HD7 and Nokia suppose to be big on camera with many options! Nothing here! HTC titan has better options. Read some where Nokia holding up other venders from making super phones. For the love of God, MS get moving! Don't wait for Nokia!!!!! Let HTC and Samsung do their thing!

This almost sounds like an analyst with an agenda. Hmm, sounds more like wishful thinking on his/her part. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see after the first quarter then we won't need any speculation. The problem I have with this analyst comments if he/she is wrong you'll never hear another peep about this story; however, if by chance he/she is correct it will then be - I told you so story.

The Nokia 800 is a very good Windows 7 smartphone it has got an award to prove what I just said it's a great smart phone for those who donot want a big 4 inch smart phone and donot want to video chat using a front facing camera. many People fit in this category so it would be great smart phone for them. the Windows smartphones with their award winning metro interface is a little over a year old and is gaining power next year 2012 they will electronically be as advanced as The Iphone or any Android smart phone that is the year many predict the Windows smartphones will shine because they have an award winning operating system that will be on some really powerful hard wear no one will be able to say Windows smartphones are losers
especially since they will be the best business phones on the market because of their integration with windows desktop computers which dominate the business world.

nokia's big mistake here is the timing of their announcement. They should have had phones ready to be shipped to stores before that announcement.

Not to shoot the messenger, but the overly hyped headline and general tone of the article is suspect. There are other reports of greater expected sales, increased shipments of phones, etc. Let's see...it has already been close to 3 weeks and we are writing the obituaries to this device?

Let's not let your Android roots show on articles that are to be targeted at those of us actually trying to find out legit info on various phones. To be honest, articles that bemoan dismal sales projections tell me absolutely nothing of value. Stick to your reviews of hardware and apps and leave the negative prognosticating to the others.

Too bad they are paid to predict anyway... Nokia said themselves they haven't had enough time to put a front facing camera which means again they haven't had enough time designing the phone properly... That's why we should wait for March 2012. There will be worldwide Nokia/Microsoft WP7.5 launch.
