78% of first time tablet buyers are choosing the new iPad

An infographic put together by dealnews features some interesting statistics based on its latest survey. 78% of first time tablet buyers plan on buyinbg the new Apple iPad. A whopping 72% say it is the impressive specs that have them convinced to buy the tablet while only 10% say they are choosing the device because they always buy the latest Apple release. The new iPad offers a Retina display, an updated 5MP camera, and a faster Apple A5X processor under the hood.

Of the 22% that will make their first tablet something other than the new iPad, 45% are going with the Apple iPad 2. The majority (60%) is making that purchase due to the cheaper price. 44% of those tablet virgins looking to make their first tablet purchase are looking at buying an Android tablet, while 9% of them are demanding a Windows flavored model. Amazingly, 0% are planning on buying a BlackBerry tablet.

With more than 1 million units of the latest iteration of Apple's iPad expected to be sold today, research firm IDC now expects tablet sales to reach 106.1 million units this year, up from a previous forecast of 87.7 million units.

Seems like its going to be a great year for Android and Apple customers alike. Plenty of good products coming out for both platforms.

I just purchased the new iPad over an hr ago at the local super Walmart and it seems like a pretty neat device. I'm an avid android user, I have several android phones as well as an android tablet equipped with all the specs that the iPad has but I figured I'd give an apple product and see how it goes

Apple products are definitely well refined, web browsing is extremely smooth, the design is superb and all in all it seems like an excellent device. So far I'm impressed but I'll definitely put it to the test tomorrow

You should see how many people come into our shop and after a few words say: "What.........You mean the iphone is a smartphone too, what actually is a smartphone?"

Apple has taken advantage of this stupidity level to the maximum potential.

I already have an Android phone so just to get a different experience, I'm thinking of getting an iPad 3 or wait for Win8 tablets.

For me, tablets are mostly used just for games than productivity but to have a Win8 tablet means both.
