While Nokia’s operating system choices are always the subject of much debate, one thing that we can all agree on is, when it comes to the physical design of its handsets, Nokia tends to knocks it out of the park...

These sure are beauties. A friend just got the SGSIII, and my God what an ugly, cheap looking piece of plastic that is. Runs well, though (and sells well too).

Read the article. This is about design, not hardware.
Apart from that it would be pointless comparing hardware between a phone running WP and one running Android. That would be like comparing a watermelon and an orange to see which tastes better.

Iphone should be rewarded for the best design. Lumina design is fully copied from iPhone. They are going to be sued soon by Apple. LOL

seriously a copy of the crap phone, and y would anyone want to give an award for a 2year old design(apple iphone). nokia lumia 800 & 900 is a design purely coming from the nokia n9,it's a design with everything apple cant be,its one of the best looking handsets on the market to date. but the iphone, common dude stop dreaming, apple needs to stop playing catchup and make a new design already, geez

Apple is going to make a new design, can't you tell?
-iPhone 5: new desing
-iPhone 5s: same desing
-iPhone 6: new design, etc.
That's their strategy.

I am an owner of a nokia lumia 800 and a proud owner of an Iphone 4S and I can say that awards do not decide anything for a phone. It is no doubt that lumia is an amazing design and build but saying "down to the smallest details..." is a bit too far fetched for Lumia. Lumia has actually fell short in many aspects. For example, the charging slot needs to be opened everytime you want to charge the phone. Over time this will wear out the plastic, not to mention the possibility of snapping off the plastic strip entirely everytime you are charing the phone. Then, the build generally is very good but nokia seems to have saved some bucks over the cheesy side buttons. Now we all know that nokia went over a hundred yards following apple and samsung in designing a smart phone, why would nokia kill itself with such low quality loose buttons. I was actually quite sad and angry at nokia, but then you deserve it perhaps, nokia ! There is no need for a camera button (duh). It seems like people at nokia didnt really use the phone as an end user. The side button seems to keep switching on the phone (and off) everytime you are holding the phone, and that isn't really the position of the button but its quality. Compare that with the iphone buttons. I also noticed that the screen of the phone is actually a glass that isn't fixed in its place, so it would budge when pressed against. The camera lens has an issue that it gets covered with fingers when you hold the phone normally.
Turning to the touch. Please tell me if i am wrong but lumia's touch has failed to impress. Simply said, it is not as responsive as it should be ! But i think there are bigger problems in the phone thats keeping it from selling like it should be, when it comes to the OS. Why is the WP so boring and basic? that is my only question to microsoft. With a minimal set of options and simply two screen to swipe at the user's delight, i do not think that WP will ever stand up against android and IoS. Nokia will not sell like this.

I won't give you a thumbs down because I like your insights about the Lumia 800. You actually owned the device and pointed out some things that would bother me as well. Though I'm a fan of Nokia products certain things can always be improved. But to your criticism of the Lumia 800 the only defense I have is that is was Nokia's first forray into Windows brand and I believe it can only get better in time. Also to add, I've used both Android and iOS and IMO windows is far more superior than both! Hands down! I realize some people don't like the windows tiles and then they start to judge the entire experience because they want "icons". If icons are your thing then Android and iOS is your place. Nothing wrong with that. But I'm one of those people who refuses to be a sheep. I will always champion the device with less popolarity. And as big a WP fan that I am I wouldn't want WP to surpass 40% of the market. I do not want to own a device everyone else owns. To each his own. But I still prefer the road less traveled!

Yeah i appreciate a good response as yours. I didn't say before but I actually was so excited at nokia lumia that I went to the extent of selling my android Motorola RAZR droid (half of the price i bought it for) to get a lumia 800. I have to agree that this phone has an outstanding build and look (with its curved glass, its just awesome! but...theres a but, lots of buts). I have been using nokia for a decade and it feels like a pinch in heart to see nokia dying like this on its "burning platform". The only question i asked myself when i tried lumia a dozen times at the stores was: why is this bloody good phone not selling? Its way better than samsung's line perhaps. I actually had to own it to know why not. And thats so because i really feel sad for this great company that has been literally "connecting people". My grievance is more with Microsoft than Nokia for making a very dull OS. Its always likely that a focus group (perhaps people with migraines) will like such basic, dull, and dark interfaces, but when we talk of market, we want to know what most people would like. And i do not think WP will make a cut over google or apple OSs, tiles are fine, but it really gives off a "that's it??" impression after one minute of use. I hope microsoft and nokia together will add more teeth to the OS, since nokia is now bound to stand by its marriage with WP. So my comments are not what i would personally like, but more of why this product isnt selling out there when it should !

I own a Lumia 900 for some months now and I simply love it. Never look back at my Galaxy SII. Apart from its beautiful looks, great Nokia apps (Nokia drive, Nokia maps, Office) and its intuitive menu's, I am most astonished about the vobrant colors of its screen, even in pure daylight. Much better then my friends i-phone 4s and my Galaxy SII. Yes, maybe it does nog have the highest resolution out there, but since I am not studying my screen from a inch distance I really can't notice :).
