IDC: iPad's market share now 50.4%, Samsung is second with 18.4%

0. phoneArena 05 Nov 2012, 05:50 posted on

Little by little, Apple's tablet market share continues to fall, according to research company IDC. The iPad now controls about 50.4% of the market, which, however, is still an enormous figure. Quite an achievement, especially for an oversized iPod touch, as some like to say...

slowly but steadily Apple's market share is going down and the people are surely beginning to see the light...that Apple just doesn't care about its customers and they persist with an arrogant attitude!
The inevitable shall come to pass!

That's because the Surface is new to the tablet market. The RT sucks though. Better buy the PRO version.

if samsung could just use brass aluminum and make its tablet more premium, i think they can overtake apple! stop using plastic! even it will make the device lighter! its not appealing to a lot of people! they'll underestimate plastic!

and there are people who thinks 10" are humungous! even though they are almost same with iPad.... hope samsung will make a tablet with just same size of the new xperia tablet (9.4" or even 9.7" with 16:9 ratio :D) coz very portable! a very good tablet size...coz 10 is like a size of a net book!

you stink! coz U stink
10" in 16:9 is like 9.7" ipad diferent aspect ratio makes very similar area

and suck that aluminium
good quality plastic is more durable than even steel and i did have nokias with steel, and is aged faster than good plastic
not everyone wants visible cracks

only brushed aluminium is good, and no oem makes tablets with that

yeah... actually using high quality plastic is better than aluminum (N9/Lumia 900 vs iPhone 5-the excuse of being an aluminum back of the iPhone is not an excuse.. i mean N8 is aluminum too! but anodize aluminum!)

but you dont get the point... coz of its very glossy plastic, it looks cheap! if they could make something that is similar to Lumia 900 plastic (polycarbonate but not that glossy) you can have premium-looking device!

the very reason why iPad is very attractive to a lot of people coz of its looks!

yeah 10" in 16:9 is like 9.7" but a lot of people still think its too huge or too big! thats why i like the look of the xperia tablet... only 9.4" but still 16:9 ratio! not too big... a very likable tablet size!

i don't care if it feels cheap. my phones aren't for show off
you have htc one x with finish like lumia for example
i had n8 also, after 2 years extremely careful use (not 1 crack on glass) aluminum start to shine through paint, not much. from delicate putting on the table every day. it was more visible than on nokia 6230 for example, and n70 for example was da $h1t

At one time the iPad was at like 85%-90%? Many ppl said that Android tablets wouldnt put a dent in market share, its not like phones where upgrades and carriers help.

Seems they were wrong about tablets just like the phones......its de ja vue...

Only thing we have to remember is just like with Apple, something can come along and knock you off the top. IMO....it would have to be something amazing or Android would have to start absolutely sucking to get knocked from the top.

---"There isn't that much excitement surrounding Samsung's latest tablets"---

I beg to differ. This is the exact mindset that Apple fans carry throughout their support. They want to believe that nothing is as exciting as an Apple product. The galaxy series of tablets are, indeed, attracting attention as well as "excitement. The galaxy series of tablets are some of the best deals around. The argument of getting what you pay for has now been trumped with you get more than what you pay for. I like that and so do many of my friends, family and colleagues.

"There isn't that much excitement surrounding Samsung's latest tablets"

Screw you and your propaganda iPhonearena.

I would say there is plenty excitement over the SAMSUNG Nexus 10. They refuse to accept the fact that its a viable competitor to the iPad. They downgrade Samsung in this article and in another they push that the benchmark for graphics is so far behind the iPad.

I wonder who pays phonearena to post articles - I mean, they do get paid by advertisers, right? No different than CNN getting paid by countries to report on the news (their filtered view of it).

lol Samsung has spend the last 2 years saturating the tablet market with tablets in al sizes and now the have a distant 18% and now Apple is falling.. lol.. Ipad dominance will shirk not because is falling but because there are more tablets out.. it would be a while before Android will have tablets dominance. hope my grandkids will see it..

Wait, you're reproducing...I perish the thought! Lol. Grandkids, how old are you? Considering that Android already have smartphone dominance, you must be about to die or have kids and grand kids at the same time. Did you even think that one through, wait, forgot you weren't told to do that...today.

All it takes is just media coverage, Apple made sure Android and Samsung got plenty of that with those lawsuits showing up on TV and then make it worse they do stupid things like try to make a mockery of judges and court systems, yay! No faster way to become number 1 in the world, but which number 1 are they going to end up being...I vote for most arrogant, egotistical, misleading, self serving company in the world. :)

What I was gonna say is yea Samsung has more tablets out....but the key thing is ppl have to want, choose, and buy the other tablets for the iPad market share to fall.

Well, in 2 years the iPad market share went from the 90%'s - 80%'s to what it is now. Never say never...the phone side should tell ppl this.
