A member of the XDA developers forum sent out a personal tweet to pass along some of the specs for a device that he calls the HTC One X+; the unit is expected to be the sequel to the HTC One X which is the manufacturer's current flagship model...

if its tegra it has 5 cores quad core for normal usage and 1 core for low task when then pone is not used to save battery

but usually the single core which is assigned to low task is clocked at a much lower speed but maybe nvidia and htc wants to step up their game

Nothing odd. The 1.7Ghz you see there is not the clock speed of the companion core. It's the speed of the chip when in SIngle core mode.

The OneX (with 1800mah battery) goes on for longer durations than the Optimus 4XHD (with 2000+mah).
So I guess you got to give it to HTC for making the OneX such an energy-efficient smartphone. And I believe the sequel will be the same.

i dont think that it have to give it to HTC since it actually give wat this capacity normaly does ....it is more like LG are the one messing up with their game making their phone give less than what it should

HTC kind of cheated though. They made it so whenever you exited an application it almost immediately closed itself down, therefore making the battery more efficient because it doesn't have applications running in the background, but effectively defeating the point of an Android phone and multitasking. So, no, I don't think HTC deserves credit for their phone lasting semi longer. They took the easy way out instead of increasing the battery size.

They didn't cheat, the memory management wasn't done for battery life.
RAM is a single power deal. Filling up RAM with more data does NOT USE more power. The actual answer is a lot more obvious, and that's lag. When RAM gets too low, it's very easy for there to be very BIG lag spikes as things have to get killed off and everything waits for the app to get killed in order to get more memory. HTC wanted to make sure that Sense didn't reload the home screens and that performance didn't drop off.
Of course, HTC screwed up anyways when the easier solution is to use the standard task killing system with adjusted values, but no one ever said they were good at writing ROMs....

I agree with the RAM thing. It doesn't really eat up energy by itself but all those apps running in the background is stressing the CPU so in a way usage of RAM contributes to the power usage.

I've used the OneX of a friend and it doesn't really close/kill apps once you "exit" it. I'm not sure but there seems to be a limit though. For example: I opened cut the rope, angrybirds, and the browser all at the same time and I can freely move from one to another without any of them closing. Though when I opened the gallery everythng got exited. So I'd say there are some good and some bad implications from how the OneX is configured but I prefer it prioritizing responsiveness over multitasking since having multiple apps open but lagging is more annoying than having "only" 2 or three apps running smoothly.

I will agree with you that it's not absolutely terrible, but it is very noticeable. I had the One X for over a month and I noticed it quite a bit

Well, technically RAM does use power, because RAM is volatile memory, which means that the capacitors have to be refilled millions of times a second for the memory cells to retain a charge, and that does take power from the battery. But the thing is that the types of RAM that phones use consume such little power it's barely even noticeable.

Yes, but filling it doesn't use MORE power. If you don't put enough power, the RAM just loses the data stored, simple as that.

Yes every single stick of RAM takes an individual amount of power to operate. Each flash stick requires a slightly fluctuating amount of volts/amps to operate correctly. Remember, they are being re-filled MILLIONS of times a second, so a re-fill doesn't mean always new set number of binary digits or data. The data can stay the same, but the capacitors need re-filling to constantly output that data. And S4 utilizes Dual-Channel memory, which means data is allocated to each stick of RAM at the same time to reduce heat dispersion and increase efficiency and speed -- both sticks will always be in use. Remove one, and it's power requirements are no longer needed-- less stress on battery, albeit a little less. When you add 2GB of RAM, you will be drawing more power than if you just had 1GB. The burden on the individual sticks will be eased a bit but in high operational periods the 2 GB will most likely draw more power than 1GB, but probably only by a little, given the sticks are made on the same nanometer process.

Factually it will, but by such an inconceivable amount, maybe a few hundred microseconds lo, which is dwarfed by something life 10 hours ---- you are right in that respect.

If I had money I wouldn't purchase it. Probably accept it as a gift but not purchase it. :p What I want to buy if I had some money would be a Pureview808 for my daily phone and the Full HD transformer for my android needs :)

The Original One X was also 4+1 core. So it's not surprising, it'd be more surprising if it got LTE on this with the Tegra quad core...

Spec-wise it isn't all that impressive. The Tegra 3 is looking increasingly long in the tooth. What is interesting (to me anyway) is that it's running JB. Hopefully that means upgrades aren't too far off for their other phones.

I was excited about this phone because I'm an ardent HTC fan & my upgrade comes in less than 2 months, but 1 GB RAM? Really? I realize it's enough at this point, but do I just want enough? No. I want a little future-proofing. I want something I know won't get abandoned when the next version of the OS comes out. Possibly when the one after that comes out. I was almost resolved to deal with the fact that the battery will probably be non-removable & there will be no micro-SD, but the lame battery size doesn't help at all. The bar has already been raised. I think I'll be plunking my money down on the Note 2. Samsung, you have a convert.

The tweet fails to mention the battery capacity. From the look of it, the phone is fatter than the ordinairy OneX (8.9mm > 9.3mm), might suggest it has a bigger battery. Hope it has a slot for an SD card.

I think the biggest complaints seen overall for HTC in there new lineup is the fact there is no SD card slot for expandable memory, let's hope they have listened and added back to there newest lineup expandable memory.
