How to update your Motorola DROID X to Gingerbread

0. phoneArena posted on 01 Jun 2011, 17:10

Last week Verizon stated that the final version would be made available on May 27th. What wasn't disclosed is that it was being rolled-out to Motorola "Soak Testers" first to try out. Everything must have been OK with those private testers, as we've recieved word that regular customers are now receiving the Gingerbread over-the-air update on their DROID X starting today.

Waited all the way to midnight to get mine. So far so good. I just did a benchmark score on mine to. Close to 1750.

At least it will keep me happy for a few more months.

it really sucks, my driod X lagging before and now it's been freezing and freezing and freezing.
I have a live watch wallpaper, the second hand moves every 10 seconds and y'all know where am going w/this.
I hope there's going to be an update for this.

If it is freezing, then you may want to reset the phone. That usually fixes those problems.

Or maybe stop using that live wallpaper

Can it be rooted?

The update is awesome, and even fixes the little glitches that the leaked build .588 suffered, like the standard keyboard becoming unusable. My phone has been running like clockwork., very smooth and fast. As smooth as an iphone, as a matter of fact. :)

I thought it was a fantastic update! I like the new look. I have noticed my Facebook contacts birthdates were displayed just as numbers. Thanks for all the hard work people put into this!

My facebook pics no longer show up with my contacts. It worked before the update! So far, I don't see a fix for this!

Everything is great about gingerbread, the only thing i m not liking is the home screen profile, fryo had better one.

Hey guys. Some things didn't seem to work after my update like facebook features and dialing phone numbers. What I did was reset my DROID to factory settings using the instructions from the help app specifically for Gingerbread. It works great now! Be sure to back things up to your storage card. Hope this helps some.

Been using 2.3.3 for 2 months now. LOVED it at first, however, the past week my typing ability has been extremely screwed up. Everytime I hit the spacebar, no matter which application i am in, the keyboard disappears, and i have to click in the active text box for it to reappear. EVERYTIME I hit the spacebar.

Sometimes, text wont show up when I type it, even though it is there when I hit send. It is slowly becoming non-functional. I am going to try to re-install the update posted here and see if that fixes it. Maybe a corrupt file? I'll repost

BTW, these instructions are incorrect for manual update... This is REALLY how it is done on a Droid X...

Hold down the power and home key bringing you to the ! screen. After that press the up and down key on the right side of the phone at the same time and this will bring you into factory reset mode. Then press the up and down arrow key to what you want to select and press the power key to select it.

THATS the way...

Is it required to backup installed apps onto an SD card before updating to gingerbread, or will the phone itself retain them? Also, will all the screens be blank (stock looking) where you have to re-customize them? Thanks, I'm new to all this.
