How to create a real holograph using your smartphone

0. phoneArena 13 Oct 2012, 12:10 posted on

It's like watching R2D2 spit out the holographic image of Princess Leia in Star Wars; instead of requiring you to own an R2 unit, a -3.75 index prism crystal, some cardboard and a smartphone is all you need to create some magic of your own...

This is pretty cool. This is the type of stuff that they though would be main stream by now in the 1950's.

So, essentially, what you're saying is you didn't bother to read the article or watch the video.

Sure, I did. Did you watch the video? If you noticed when he turned the entire display, you can also see the side of the person (animatron, whatever you like to call her). The "side." I don't know about you, but I don't remember a time when did 2D displays are magically able to pan to the side of someone?

Yes, you can shine an image onto a prism and it will create a projected image within the prism. However, it is not truly 3D; it is still 2D (aka. You will see the same image no matter which way you turn it).

This is what's on my mind. how can he possible view the back of the dancing girl while at the same time someone could watch the front side? how? if it's really a plain 2d video.

theres another video on youtube if you type in 3d prism trick. it shows that the tip of the prism is placed in the middle of 4 images on the screen. One image on the screen projects on to one side of the prism

gotta agree with you, like what image to show? I think, this won't apply to every video you put on play.

@g2a5b0e, i've watched it and the video didn't even let us see what's playing on the phone. I'm not skeptic that this won't work. I'm just curious what vids are needed to play on this trickery.

Is like, putting a transformer movie on play be okay with this? like how?

its a special 4 sided video that he's playing for the effect. The crystal is doing nothing but reflecting the image on it's location. 4 concurrently running videos. 1 for each of the 4 sides of the prism.

Cheap trick that has a neat effect.

i think it is a videos made by 3d program by 4 sides of object
so it is 4 videos combined into 1 video
it splits the screen into 4 parts each part playing for each side of prism
so each side of the prism works like a mirror reflecting the part of video playing on its side
