How pocketable is the Samsung Galaxy Note really? (Hint: it depends!)
0. phoneArena posted on 04 Nov 2011, 08:13
We've had mixed feelings about the Samsung Galaxy Note – with a simply gigantic 5.3-inch display this handset is a dream come true for every tech geek, but then harsh reality strikes by reminding you that…

i know it will fit on most of my jeans but for Christ's sake what the F is the purpose of a screen this huge for a mobile phone?
2. remixfa posted on 04 Nov 2011, 08:21 9 0
its for someone that is media heavy, or a business person that needs better functionality than 99% of the phones deliver, but doesnt want to carry a seperate tablet/note pad, ect.

media heavy? business person? i thought any top androids right now can do heavy media.. and as far as im concern this is no business phone.. i just think this screen is ridiculous.. and if i'm not mistaken this is almost the same as the gs2 but different processor.

I would've agreed with you prior to using my tablet for the majority of my emails/web browsing.
I think what he means for a "business person" is that for instance I have to look at a lot of excel spreadsheets on my phone and ever since I got my tablet I absolutely hate doing it on my Thunderbolt.
I'm excited even for the small bump from 4.3 to 4.65 or whatever the Nexus has, never mind 5.3...

according to me anything above 4.3 inch is an overkill.

Well we all know Indian people have tiny hands.
Just kidding, but seriously... good for you? Some people like big, some people like small.
9. Retro-touch posted on 04 Nov 2011, 09:16 2 0
the galaxy note is simply bigger gs2 with a higher resolution Amoled display and stylus
14. remixfa posted on 04 Nov 2011, 10:58 4 0
yes.. and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.. lol.
its the stylus apps that really set it appart for business and media use.. the bigger screen is just useful all around for people that do editing and spreadsheets. or watch movies.

Obviously you haven't seen the amount of people that I have who carry around Ipads like they are some kind of phone. When I mean carry around, I mean they walk around with it out in front of them acting like they are doing something on it. I have seen at least 12 people doing this now. So, I think this would be a great alternative to see.

Larger 2500 mAh battery compared to 1650 mAh, Same Exynos chipset, only that the ARM Cortex A9 processor's tuned 1.2 / 1.4 GHz respectively for Galaxy Note & S II.

business person? dude, seriously.
5 inch slab inside good looking tuxedo pocket?
"hey, you got a pen there or you just smiling when you see me?" will be back as a poor joke.

Business person needs to be able to control his smartphone with one hand. That's impossible even with 4.3" displays, unless u have some HUGE hands. Huge screens on smartphones are for geeks and kids imotbh.

3. iamcc posted on 04 Nov 2011, 08:30 1 0
Yeah, if I didn't have a tablet I would want the biggest screen I can get. I generally wear blazers so phones of almost any size fit well into the inside pocket and since the weight is distributed on my shoulders I don't even notice it's there.
My girlfriend jokes that between my keys, phone, and extra battery my jackets act as a murse LOL
6. DetroitTech posted on 04 Nov 2011, 08:39 2 0
What is the point of a tablet then? Are tablets not allowed to be ported around? What would you say if I put my iPad 2 in my pocket? lol. I should. Anyway Great vid btw. This is assuming of course that placing our devices in our front/back or shirt pockets is a requirement. I have to give credit to Samsung for bringing this to market. I also have wavered between this and the S2 thinking this might be too large. However I think I'm going to do it. I am a larger sized person so that does help. Once I get this I think I won't want an Android tablet anymore. This should suffice especially at HD resolution. It's obviously not for everyone but not every device is.

Last line being the key point that I think most people have missed. It might not be for a certain user or reviewer, but the product is there for a certain amount of people...
25. ChodTheWacko posted on 04 Nov 2011, 14:42 0 0
You are kidding me, right?
If you get a smartphone at all, the reason you get a smartphone is to interact with programs and use the screen. Having a bigger screen makes EVERYTHING better. Reading books. Games. Maps. Typing. text messaging. Web browsing. Movies.
WIth a bigger screen, especially with this high of resolution, you can see more on the screen AND hold it further away for more comfortable usage. It's fantastic. I have said for a while now - i'll take the largest screen that I can still pocket and carry with me 24x7.
And for anyone who says '3.5 inches is enough, or 43 inches is plenty'..... There was a time when people said 35" tvs were ridiculous. You're not going to find one person who doesn't think a 42" tv is better. And a 53" tv, even better than that.
You will probably, however, hate this phone if you have small hands. And you can forget about using this one handed -it's a tablet in that respect.
29. ZEUS.the.thunder.god posted on 04 Nov 2011, 16:10 1 0
well this is innovation .. you can buy an icrap if wanna remain with a 3.5 inchs screen for rest of your life when the world moves on ... its time to move on brother ..bigger is better.... let the SGS III come

8. DetroitTech posted on 04 Nov 2011, 08:50 3 0
It's available now for the States!
Oh, you don't want to pay 900$? Lol. I with ya. A couple years ago I might have. It does have support for ATT HSPA+ but not Tmo U.S. If this came to ATT for 299$ I'd get it. Maybe in 2 years it'll be around 250$ on Ebay...
Who am I kidding. Time to start selling stuff on Ebay to fund this.
12. McLTE posted on 04 Nov 2011, 10:13 3 0
If this comes to Verizon with LTE.. I'll sell one of my children for it!
Ok.. not really.. but damn, I want it!! :)

Where does it say this is the most important? Now that you and taco have less to bitch about with Android you have started attacking PhoneArena and the people who write the articles... kinda sad.
18. Scuba_Steve posted on 04 Nov 2011, 12:40 2 0
Really Miz? That comment was needed? Really? Really?
There are more stories that are pointless so why attack this one? Because it's Android? Get over it...
22. jackhammeR posted on 04 Nov 2011, 14:32 0 0
Not your portal Miz. They can write even about how much black is in black pouch for siemens c75.
And many people are interested in how really big is Note and how does it look like in a pocket.
19. Scuba_Steve posted on 04 Nov 2011, 12:42 1 0
Just because it's in your pocket doesn't really mean it'll be comfortable. remixfa is right, it's only for certain customers. As for myself? Not a chance.

This "phone" cannot be considered as a normal day to day phone.
It's just to big. it's more like mini tablet...or hybrid like asus.
You got cargo pocket...fine..you got little rucksack...fine...but not in normal pocket!

so what do you want PA ???
... 0.5 inches of increase every 3 years by crapple ???
i am pretty sure apple would be able to come up with a 4.1 inchs display by 2016 .. then PA, on behalf of apple, would tell us that how it changes everything again and also how apple invented bigger display .. lol
38. donato posted on 05 Nov 2011, 13:51 0 0
If apple does come out with a 4.1 inch screen it will change everything again becasue the resolution will be outstanding. They will only use a screen that big if it can have a retina display. It just doesnt put out phones with ridiculosly big screens that are so fuzzy they need to be huge just so you can make out what is on them. When apple does something it does it right. Thats why they are the most profitable compay in the bussiness. They make the most money for a reason, plain and simple. I guess i would feel the need to talk trash on the number one company in the bussiness for no reason too if i had an inferior product.

I had the dell streak(5" screen) and it was awesome and fit fine in my kakhi pants. Now that they have a bigger phone. I am all in. Its all about P0RN~!!!!
34. smartphone posted on 04 Nov 2011, 22:08 0 0
the screen size is no problem, yesterday at zoo i saw a Orangutan using it with one hand.
Still i will not buy it , I am waiting for a phone with screen size that big i can attach wheels and use as a skateboard.
35. Matt180 posted on 04 Nov 2011, 22:53 0 0
I've had mine for about a week now and I love it. It easily fits in my pockets I don't even know it's in there. You get used to the size really quick to the point that it looks completely normal (every other phone looks tiny!). The screen is pure sex and it's blisteringly quick. But yes I wouldn't recommend for smaller people with tiny hands.
37. donato posted on 05 Nov 2011, 13:42 0 0
If i need a bigger screen then ill just use my ipad or my computer. A screen that big is just stupid. There is no purpose for that other then saying I have the biggest screen.
