I think it will retain the same screen width as the current 4S but will be elongated to approach the more Nokia like 16:9 dimension. I'm sure Apple will announce a 16:9 patent soon, as well.

Yeah apple wont go past 4'' and even that is a big difference. In my opinion the new iphone will have a 3,7'' display with some new cool feature :)

But I've never owned and never want to own an iphone so I dont really care. I'm sticking with my (for iphone users) MASSIVE Gnex and S3 :D

If you take break from yapping for a moment and think, you'll realize that if the Apple releases a 4inch smartphone, then 4 inches would be the smallest screen in any top smartphone being sold. So unless current Apple users wants to use an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S for the rest of their life, they'd be forced to have a phone over 4 inches whether they decide to buy Android or Apple. People, realize that there is something called ERGONOMICS. The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch screen but the ERGONOMICS make it very easily to hold and operate with one hand -- tapered edges and reduced bezel.

Boxy phones = bad ergonomics, but that is virtually undetectable on Apple's miniature child play-thing errr... iPhone 4S.

Obviously, Apple will call their new 4 inch phone revolutionary. And yes people, it will be 4 inches, there are no other logical increases.

The first 4 and last articles are based on estimates or forecasts. That is to say ObjectivismFTW like to believe in FICTION and not in FACTS.

Here are the FACTS, Verizon sold 5.9 million smartphones in Q2:2012. Of that amount 2.7 million were iPhones. That number is up from 2.3 million from the year-earlier period, or year-over-year basis.

Verizon sold 2.9 million droid smartphones but only 2.5 million were 4G LTE meaning the Analysts were WRONG.

Well so far you proved me wrong on one thing: the iP4s didn't outsell the Razr at Verizon, which wasn't such a correction, because the previous Quarter had completely different outcome. Considering the fact that you didn't know "paling" had more than one definition, amongst other things, I'd say at this point, we are about equal (not really, considering one is a common word in the english language, and should be common sense)

Anyway, I never argued that the GS3 outsold in Verizon, but that's it's sales figues are becoming shrinking because of the GS3 release. It's obviously going to take a bit more time to phase the general public out of the Apple spell, but Galaxy is helping to stimulate the process.

EDIT: Furthermore, a larger market share is now held by Android devices. We can see the Apple machine slowing down, obviously the iP5 will re-vitalize that process a bit, but if customers are smart enough to buy the best handset, which, when looking at the likelihoods, will most likely still be in the Android camp, even after the iP5 release. Sure, there is some subjectivity in there, but Apple products are not that hard to decode before their release. We basically knew what the new iPad would be weeks before it's release, same with the iPhone 4, and the 4S, excluding Siri of course, which has turned out to be mostly a gimmick. It's hard to believe that iP5 will be Apple's Ace-In-The-Whole, considering that the phone will be bottle-necked by the sluggish, inflexible operating system. Apple will have to pull humungous bunnyhop here, the last thing they truly "surprised" us with was the iP4, with Retina, but since then, there has been no real innovation that we didn't already expect, and categorized as a necessary improvement (i.e "Retina" on iPad, MacPro, iP4s A5, and iOS 6 was a catch-up attempt, albeit, a failed one.

ObjectivismFTW, I read both articles and it's clear you are missing the key point.

1) The articles talks about "worldwide" orders. Apple launches its iPhone in stages, i.e. it launches in different markets over time.

2) The iPhone 4S had one million pre-orders within a 24-hour period beating the previous 600,000 for the iPhone 4. Neither article gave a timeframe for the Samsung S3.

3) I looked the word up "paling" that you used earlier and you used it incorrectly.

the links you provided actually doesn't really help you much.

This proves that these were carrier and not consumer pre-orders. Additionally the writer states that a surplus was ordered. Also, keep in mind that the 9 million pre-orders were also for in-store SGSIII. In order for it to be really 9 million consumer, they'd have to sell out of their in store stock EVERYWHERE.

UK's Orange says "The Samsung S3 is proving hugely popular and we've seen a great deal of interest from customers"
--- I don't know about you but this doesn't sound like they've sold-out; that's a pretty underhwleming statement.

At 4 inches, I doubt the iPhone display will be HD resolution. Meanwhile the high end Android phones will increasingly have HD resolution 300+ ppi displays. And sales will continue to be lost by Apple. Therefore, expect more lawsuits by Apple in its pathetic attempt to stem the tide of lost sales.

I think screen sizes over 4" for a phone are a bit crazy. You are getting towards tablet territory, and If you do need a screen bigger than 4" then you obviously do not need a /phone/, you need a tablet with 3G. There has to be a balance between the device still having function for its intended purpose (its a Phone!).

The current trend (with Android devices anyhow) is bigger is better. They keep pushing the screen size up and up in order to stand out from each previous handset. Well it can only go up so far before you are basically holding a tablet to the side of your head looking like a muppet. I don't think the next iPhone will be anything over 4" to keep the one handed operation aspect as you said.
