I wish there was a way to determine how much is based on e-mail (including attachments) vs. web surfing. VZW just gives a total data number.

Damn someone doesn't like you. You were only talking about your data. lol

I am with you I use about 4GB of data because I tether with my Prime more & more each month. I may be at 5GB this month.

Ohh I am on VZW also.

+1

If you use Verizon's app I'm pretty sure it doesn't count.
If you have ICS (probably not since you call yourself "Droid X") you can use the data manager and if not you can download one from the play store, although they aren't that accurate.

If you own an Android, ICS and JB does that. All you need do is go into the settings and select the data usage area, it breaks down data by specific apps.

ICS will tell you under the Data Usage section of the phone settings. You can see how much data youve consumed on the mobile network or wifi and it displays the data usage for each app as well.

You must have Sprint. I agree with you. I think this survey was based on 65,000 old people that dont know what an internet is.

Also if the survey was based on Verizon customers, then it will definatley be low since data is mad expensive with VZ and it discourages you from using it.

When you have unlimited you will stream netflix in bed without caring about wifi conection.

hurray..... again first...!!!!

I am from India... so I basically opt for GPRS plan rather than 3G...

I have a Aircel & Loop connection... with Aircel Pocket internet connection I use unlimited GPRS data on my mobile so never got to mesure the limit... but typically I may use 2-2.5GB/month .....

Most of my friends also use the same data usage.....

I use somewhere between 3 and 13GB a month. So glad I still have unlimited data.

I'd like to see what the average smartphone user uses because I dont think I know anyone that uses less than a gig a month

You'd be surprised acturlly. Many of the carriers in the UK only offer 500MB a month. ive been known to use that in a day. I think data limits are wrong anyway. Either have truely unlimited (no fair usage bollocks) data or none at all.

yeah, that's a phony number because you include people with voice only phones.
The big boys love for you to use that false information so they can bang it to the smart phone subscribers and laugh all the way to the bank. Also, when will they stop double charging for ads in your data stream. Users should not be dinged for data transfer of advertising material that they are forced to consume.

I don't stream much - though there was the time I was streaming a sports broadcast to keep hubby awake while driving home late from a one-day trip.

I've been trying to lower my data consumption, with the idea of changing carriers and plans and saving some dough. Between wi-fi and HTC pass-through, turning off most background synch and creating SMS notifications for a number of things, I've knocked it way down, but I don't think I've ever managed to suck up more than about 2.5 gig in a month. The SMS notifications are enough to let me know if I want to check the whole email or whatever, and that works for me.

To get any reliable information, it needs to come from the carriers in the form of a graph - and I'm betting they aren't really willing to share that. A lot of people are paying for more data than they actually use, probably because of the way plans are structured, and the fear of overage charges.

i think WiFi helps alot with determining this average. i'm on sprint and the service sucks in my area so i'm constantly on wifi... when i'm at work i barely use my phone because the data is basically not available to use.

I use about 1 GB a week but that is because I use the mobile hotspot feature for my iPad. If I did not use that feature, I think I would be well under 1 GB for a month.

So if the majority by a long shot are using a measly 450mb why don't they calm the eff down on the 2-4giggers, geez... Throttling probably should happen till at least 5gb+

I'm usually around 2-2.5 gb on 3g and using the 4g anywhere from 2gb to 30gb in a month. Sprints awesome lol
