Here's the ad Samsung is running against the iPhone 5 launch nationwide

0. phoneArena 15 Sep 2012, 16:40 posted on

The ad shows the Apple iPhone 5, turned off, and with the main features listed underneath, and then the Samsung Galaxy S III in all its glory against it, with a list of its own features listed below. As you can easily guess, the Galaxy S III list is much longer for a purpose, and there is a big fat title at the top saying "It doesn't take a genius"...

Yes but he's saying the next big thing isn't here. The next big thing is the Galaxy s4 and that's not here so he's saying the statement is wrong.. It's okay it was just a lighthearted comment

Wrong! "The next BIG thing" is the Galaxy Note 2.

I'm not a fan of apple at all. I'd never be looking at the iPhone as device I'd want to own, but if I did, this ad would not change my mind. iPhone users don't care about specs, this ad doesn't really target iPhone users. This ad is more likely going to be ammunition for S3 fans to use as reasons why it is better than iPhone. But iPhone fans simply wont care. All it does is simply reinforce the belief that Android fans already have, which is that people who choose iPhone are stupid - which is not the case. Everyone has their own tastes and needs. I wish everyone could just respect each others choices when it comes to what device we each want. There are more important things in life than this.

most of these "features" are just android specific ways of doing thingsā€¦

similar to how ios has had "shake to undo," and while this could be seen as a "feature" over android, I am sure there is an equivalent

Man, your comment is the best I've seen on this fandroid-loaded site. Obviously, people have free will, and only buncha whackjobs fight over phones. I, for example, prefer iPhone, and also own a GS3... Both are good in their own ways, but at the end of the day, I find my i4S being more used than the S3. No offence or anything to anyone. This is my personal opinion and personal only. And yeah, I also wish, that people should just respect over each other's choices, and not start stupid flame wars.

we would totally respect them if not for the fact that someone at apple called fandroids poor and disgusting.

An excellent hit to the exact point. iAppy fans mainly consider their status , not specs that much. That's why iPhone is so much popular to girls and ladies. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh, and another thing, Android's hundreds of features are quite difficult to usual Apple users and not that much needed by Apple Users.

People buy with they want... We all know that SGS III has better specs... But some people may want iTunes and that stuff... or any other reason... Its good to have options of choice...

Exactly does it matter what someone else prefers... In my opinion the s3 is better and I knew even before the 5 was announced that spec wise the 5 at most will probably match and beat it here and there... Some want small screen some want large there is no perfect phone for everyone... Don't get me how people are so offended when someone says something about apple or Samsung etc as if it's there parent that we are insulting lol... What I do find annoying is when people are clearly lying like saying things like the s3 lags etc or saying the battery is rubbish when multiple reviews and my own s3 has never lagged or had poor battery... Of course I get force closes with 1 or 2 apps but so does Iphones, the difference is Google tells you when an app is being fc where as Apple does not... Anyways people some people like android some people like ios etc its not a shock that someone else prefers something different to you... Is your friend wearing the same trainers or jacket as you? Am guessing no because everyone has different tastes.

Correction. People buy what they are told they want.

Any time someone comes into my store asking for a specific phone, I ask them "What made you decide on that one?" Out of honest curiosity.

I will swear on whatever grave you want me to, I have never had someone choosing the iPhone answer with anything other than something akin to "I don't know, cause it's an iPhone?" Or "Cause everyone else has it?"

Conversely, I have never heard anyone ask for an Android phone by name without answering with a specific feature they wanted or the reviews they read that spoke highly of it.

"I have never had someone choosing the iPhone answer with anything other than something akin to "I don't know, cause it's an iPhone?" Or "Cause everyone else has it?""

And that is what being 'cool' is all about - surrendering independent thought for the inclination of the mob.

choice?? If apple produced many different models, that would be better... I am rather astonished at the half hearted 'screen expansion' though...
the wide-screen standard is 720, not 640, apple... expect your videos to look a bit odd....

If your car dealer offered you a 'new upgrade model' would you just get it, and then realize almost everything is identical, it's just a bit longer/wider, so a bit more space.... :\

I just hate seeing people getting ripped off when they buy old/mediocre tech for a premium price, best example the iPhone (all models)

Whats ironic is that you being an iFan say that having choices is good but the company you so dearly love want to ban all the competion and dont want consumers to buy any phone except the iPhone!

If Samsung is not "afraid" of Apple i think this is not the way to make ad's... They should concentrate on their Smartphone.... Not making this adverts saying to buyers like: "Our Product is better than that one"... Both are good phones by the way..

You do realize that this is classic advertising - claiming your product is better, and showing why.

What do you think Apple's Mac vs. PC commercials were all about?

True that. Only this time around, Apple is in the PC position. Sammy should do a series of iPhone vs GS III ads. It would be a great follow-on.

Reminds me of Coke Vs Pepsi ads ... Apple may as usual go to Courts asking for another billion in damages as a result of this ad ... :D

well if apple spent its money on good technicians/ manufacturing equipment(instead of making the lawyers very rich!!), it should be able to make a good hi-spec phone to beat samsung..

I have said before, if apple makes a phone with similar or better specs than all others, I WILL BUY IT!!!

The reality is, Appple can't make a response add to it. Samsung names features, apple mentions platitudes such as "look and feel.". Admittedly' I never understood what the "feel" is. Regardless, people will rush out to buy the iPhone because the logo is the only feature it really needs. The desire for people to say "I've got the newest iPhone" is the only selling point apple needs.

It is only in the USA that company can blatantly attack another brand. That is the problem with the advertising standard in USA. In most other countries, Samsung would not be able to do that, they would have to at least mention Apple as "brand X".
