We are honestly surprised by Apple’s announcement of the new 9.7-inch iPad. Cupertino shocked us earlier in March when it brought…

"The third-gen iPad still looks competitive against the Surface, but having an even newer one with a chip delivering double the processing and graphics power just blows the Surface out of the water."

Victor, please tell me you are joking!? That is the most ridiculous statement I've seen tonight - how do you qualify this in any way, shape or form?

I'm not showing fanboyism - even though I dislike Apple, but that is absolutely ridiculous since the Surface destroyed the iPad 3 - this is the sort of statement I'd expect to see on CNET now here!

P.S I do find it highly amusing that those people who got the iPad 3 are already out of date again..

Okay, fair thing to note, the phrase might be over the top. Let's make my point clear, though - having the new iPad now will be a huge blow to Surface sales. Mostly because of the hype and novelty around it, but not only. Apple is very aggressive with upgrading its hardware, and it demonstrates it once again here.

Time will give us the numbers to see who's right.

I still think you statement needs some qualification. Just because the ipad 4 will likely sell more units does not mean it is actually "blows the Surface out of the water" in performance. I'm not saying you're wrong - I don't know enough about each of these products - I'm just saying they are two different things.

Yes, I do see the argument, and like you say this will probably hinder the sales of the Surface which may otherwise have sold vs. the iPad 3 as a result of the image Apple upholds,.

Like you say though, I don't believe, certainly from a specification point of view anyway, that we could justify stating it 'blows the surface out of the water'

And yes, very apprehensive to see both these platforms fighting it out in the market!

You won't be able to do nearly as much on the iPad 4 even with "double the power" the iPad 4 received over the "new” iPad compared to what is actually possible with a Surface tablet.

So Aaron_R96 is 100% correct. The iPad 4 is just a "new" iPad with "double the power" that is it. You won’t be able to do work on it STILL even with "double the power" like you would with a standard PC, not to mention the Surface tablets.

The iPad 4 is not a work PC. You can’t to real work on an iPad 4. You WILL be able to do real work on a Microsoft Surface tablet though.

That may be true for people that are blind to what they're getting for the money, but people will see "Windows" on it and think computer (somewhat erroneously in the case of RT versions), and when priced against each other (and with the Surface and its W8/W RT brethren) and with all the extra ports and stuff the Windows devices have, they come out a much better value since they're readily more capable, no adapters or stuff to buy

The newest iPads will sell because of all the free advertisement people like you give. People who read statements you post will think its worth the extra money they are gonna spend when the one thing that makes apple a bad company is the fact that they overcharged on all their products.

Neither the 7" or presumed 10" Nexus is going to have a hard time selling, Google priced them correctly and they rock with solid stats and most current OS iteration. Apple took a totally different approach with high pricing and old specs. War of polar opposite tablets if there ever was one.

The real reason Apple introduced iPad 4 (iPad 3S) now is so that they can introduce iPad 5 (iPad 3S+) in March 2013, to coiNciDe with iPhone 6 and the new 4.01" Super Gorilla Resilient screen it plans to introduce.

They did this exact type of update with the ipad 2, no?

They can make great hardware, there is no disputing that. Too bad it's hampered by it's app-launcher os, limited hardware connectivity (bar pricey adapters), and its price.

i love how they say this is going to destroy surface when its not Microsoft is making a good product and it will sell really nice plus it makes sense to have a tablet with everything for class already on it with a usb drive is even better no thanks on the iPad not saying apple is bad just saying they need to do some upgrades other than spoon feeding the followers a little at a time

The reason why Apple is not an inventor but only more like a renovation company, because since the 1st gen iPhone they never have invented anything substantial, but only REINVENTED the already invented product which REINVENTS the already existing stuffs!!

Even the iphone wasn't that inventive, if we're honest... Took an Asian (F700, Prada) and German (Dieter Rams w/ Braun) design, built it in China, and slapped a media player OS on it, and the phone part was an afterthought

It didn't even get taller.

And why did Apple made the new iPad, old, because, they're UNDER PRESSURE, that Microsoft's Surface don't bring them to surface!

Like I said, pressure is the reason with newer specks and other stuff iPad is getting sstomped by some heavy competition

Indeed the Surface is far more productive than the iPad but you know what it's just the marketing strategy of Apple, they are so successful, most people don't realise that when or how they bought it's products when something better was there

Considering there isn't a source names I'm assuming PA wrote this article. So wtf is this crap (direct quote) "The new fourth-gen iPad has Lightning now, and that brings unification in the Apple mobile ecosystem, and that’s something Cupertino is particularly proud of" ... If Cupertino is particularly proud of "unification" why the hell did he introduce a new connector that offers no new technology or improvements just to save some space. Making the EVERY OTHER apple device that had the same connector no longer compatible. And slapping a tag of "lightning" on it is just a true slap in the face to his customers. What he is saying is that as long as they portray it to be better people will buy it. Because they are uninformed and follow the apple logo like the aliens in the toy machine in Toy Story "oooo THE CLAW" ..

Apparently it does allow for faster charging times, according to a few owners I've encountered. Only if using the factory charger, NOT if using an old cord and an adapter

I hate how everyone hates on this article and on Apple.
Yes, I prefer Android and Windows because they offer more freedom, I hate syncing, and I want a massive screen.
However, the processing power in the new iPhone and iPad is quite impressive and is close to being on par with the Exynos, S4 Pro, and others with Jelly Bean.
Calm down! Jeez... Both sides have their advantages and disadvantages.
