Heins: BlackBerry 10 handsets offer personal computing power
0. phoneArena 22 Mar 2013, 14:43 posted on
In an interview with ABC-TV, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins looked away from today's U.S. launch of the BlackBerry Z10 and peered into the future where he saw a BlackBerry 10 packin' smartphone powering your tablet or notebook; talking about the BlackBerry Z10, Heins said that it is no longer just a smartphone, but has the power of a laptop...

Please Heins, stop lying
BB10 in two words:

Heins is just stuck in the 2005 timeframe. Back then, a dual core 1.5 Ghz PC would be mainstream processing power.
Maybe someone should give him a calendar?

Android is by far the most advanced mobile os currently on the market. Bb10 was delayed for a year and is still stuck in 2008. Face it, while its not a complete flop, its not as good as this bone head talks it up to be.
Also, android is alot like sex. Its only boring if you don't know what you're doing.

Would you trust android to run the hospital equipment that you're hooked up to or would you rather trust the QNX ones that's already in place.

At the same time....many companies run Linux on their servers....critical mission servers.
I dont know about Android....but I trust Linux. But you do have a point.

Android was once upon a time based on Linux. But then Android branched off and went in it's own direction. Linus Torvalds ( creator of Linux) was not pleased with Android and the direction that it was going. One of the items was the direction that Android took was in the area of security stating that it was "bizarre". The two disparate parties as it appears now wants to make amends and come back together but will not happen until as far as 2016. So your "I don't know" is completely correct. Android and Linux are completely different animals maybe like lobsters and scorpians and crabs and spiders. Distant relatives from way back.

LOL talk about false claims, it offers personal computing power? What a god damn joke.
Blackberry lying isn't going to get you more marketshare.

IT doesn't offer mobile/personal power, at least yet. But it'd be interesting if they actually managed to take laptops out of offices in the next three years or so. QNX powered BB10 is showing a lot of promise.

Heins... when wp8 is ahead of you .. you know you suck .... just sell the company
7. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
Well atleast you can DualBoot and run Android and Ubuntu on BB10, unlike WP8 its like closed:Aka, iOs™

ceo IS A IDIOT. he should of at least launch the Q10 which bb OWNERS love their QWERTY PHONE.
8. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5751; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Launching the Z10 ahead of the Q10 was the STUPIDEST thing BB/RIM could do. If Heins had come to BB/RIM from MS, I would accuse him of being a MS mole and intentionally trying to sabotage BB/RIM.

actually you got a point there! but you know, most of the apps of Z10 are port and its way easy to develop an app with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio than 1:1! and also they want to win iOS or android with their attempt for the full touch screen coz there's no doubt that loyal BB users will flock to Q10!
and i think Z10 is a rush product coz Q10 is made with all premium material! but you wont feel so cheap so its ok though
so i think releasing Z10 ahead of Q10 has pros and cons!

27. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5751; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Yeah, but the Z10 is a wanna be Note 2. Heinz was trying to claim that the Z10 rivaled PC power.

I think hes been talking Up BB OS 10 alot lately and its somewhat irritating because the truth is as far as im concerned it has a long way to go to being as good as a personal computer i think the phones that com close is the note2

NO A BIG NO!!!!! haven't heard of the Nokia N900? the real tablet PC but it was known as internet tablet! it can run linux apps BTW! but again, nokia gave it short life and the arrival of meego in the form of N9, they do it again! those platform (maemo or meego) have a lot of potential to replace a PC coz again, they are suppose to be a PC OS!
and BB10 has a lot of potential as well!! not as close as these platform but it still has a big chance to stood up against android or iOS and even WP!
and BB10 need to have is app ecosystem and some cool new features!
and besides... BB is an independent company! which is very awesome that they could stood up against the giants!

Go look up QNX Neutrino 8. It's in fact a full blown operating system that runs on servers and desktop hardware.
33. jroc74 (Posts: 4732; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Thats cool....which makes me wonder why Heins mentioned WP not offering real computing power....since WP8 and Win 8 are about to become alot like that.
Android...I can agree and disagree when he says that. Everything that doesnt require a disc drive or PC high end specs can be done on just about any smartphone or tablet.
At the same time.....getting a Surface Pro over an Android tablet or iPad seems like the best thing for overall use. Again.....odd Heins says that about WP, especially compared to Surface Pro....

when I was a little boy, my mom slapped my hands every time she knew I told a lie. Seems like this guy had an uncaring mother. Just saying.
BTW I might be just a dumb consumer, but come on, does BB10 bring *anything* new to the table?
18. MC1123 (Posts: 1240; Member since: 12 Nov 2012)
a whole new experience that is definitely not android!
come on people!! hope you open your eyes wide open that not everyone love android, iOS or WP!
some will still hold for their own symbian phones coz of the very fact that they dont like or they still cant feel these platforms!
and oh BTW, BB10 has a lot of potential! a lot believe that they got a very powerful OS and it need to show off!
24. pixelado (Posts: 130; Member since: 16 Feb 2013)
Why even bring Android to the table? Projecting insecurities, perhaps?
Some people still stick to Windows XP and even Windows 9x, but it doesn't make it right. Your point? Are you really trying to make me look like an enemy of choice?
Yeah, BB10 sure has potential, but it's a young OS compared to other platforms on the market. Why go dissing others and claiming yours is the best?
36. GadgetsMcGoo (Posts: 163; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
Bringing in a fully tested and hardened OS that has been around for 31 years and used in the most rigorous environments such as nuclear power plants, hospital equipment, military equipment, space equipment, automotive electronics and entertainment system and shoe horning that into a small hand held mobile phone for general consumers.
35. GadgetsMcGoo (Posts: 163; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
An updated mobile computing OS that has fully *integrated* security so that you and your IT department isn't cobbling together a mish-mish motley crew of security apps that you pay extra for and you would pray would work.
16. MC1123 (Posts: 1240; Member since: 12 Nov 2012)
i love his confidence!!
i love that he is giving a fight for choices and choose to support their own platform!
i love BlackBerry!
i hate nokia's elop! a sure flop!

No offense to BB fans but I just dont c how the blackberry 10 has enough spec or horse power to do this. I think Blackberry dont even have the enough or up to date spec to call themselves high end phone in the yr 2013. The only thing high end about blackberry is their price tag.
Clearly this is like one of those future idea project w/ no clear release dates. BB is trying to spread some positive rumors so that their stock prices stop falling. I mean Apple is doing, but we are just not buying it.

I kinda like the Z10, and the Q10 is fugly!!
28. Armor (Posts: 49; Member since: 06 Dec 2011)
OK Guys!!! QNX does not need a quad core processor!!! Also I see where the new gs4 has lots of LAG!! Why? The new bb10 software has the ability to communicate with other devices in your house. You can send a video you are watching on the z10 to your tv by flipping the screen. The QNZ system also will have the ability to communicate with cars around you, other devices, ect, Do your research before you open your mouth. GO BLACKBERRY!!!!!!
32. jroc74 (Posts: 4732; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Everything you mentioned has already been done.....
IR Blasters in phones n tablets, wifi enabled devices/appliances, blue tooth devices/appliances. My TV had a blue tooth remote...
Sending a video to your TV? Thats old news again. So by sending it by flipping the screen, thats real computing power? lol. Its just another way of doing it. First it was by composite cables, then HDMI or USB cables. Now its by wifi....and whatever way BB10 does it.
This isnt something revolutionary BB10 is offering...
31. jroc74 (Posts: 4732; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
What in the world does he think makes BB10 so different than ALL the other mobile OS's that BB10 has real computing power...and ALL the others dont?
QNX has the ability to communicate with cars and other devices? How is this new or exclusive to BB10? Blue Tooth, syncing has been around for years.
Its supposed to be better with QNX? Fine, but that doesnt mean other mobile OS's dont offer real computing power....
37. GadgetsMcGoo (Posts: 163; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
If you search out what operating system is running in most of the world's cars, you will find that it is in fact QNX.
