Why so much hate on the phonearena comments section for the iPhone 5S today?
Apple has done some great things with the 5S:
- 64-bit chip (first ever)
- Increased battery life
- Camera improvements (from the sample pictures, the camera on the 5S looks amazing)
- Dual LED flash
- Better aperture than iPhone 5
- 120 fps slo-mo recording
- Fingerprint scanning home button
There isn\'t much else Apple can do to improve their device other than increasing screen size and improving pixel density after doing so. However, they realize that doing so would require them to increase the size of the device and/or decrease the device\'s bezel. They do not wish to do so though, since the iPhone caters mainly to individuals who chose aesthetics over practicality and individuals who choose simplicity and intuitiveness over customizability and functionality. They choose to have subtle meaningful enhancements. They know their audience and that\'s why they continue to be extremely successful. There are only so many innovations that can be made in this world, and as new innovations arise, it becomes harder to make even newer ones in some cases. I believe that a fingerprint scanning home button is relatively innovative and practical.
Although I personally prefer the newer Androids (Z1, G2, Note 3) over the 5S, I still believe that Apple rightfully deserves some credibility for the enhancements they have made with the iPhone series.

I want to see Apple give me a phone with specs that beat EVERYONE else and a five inch screen size. I want the software experience to actually have features I\'m going to use. I want a complete redesign of iOS. A new skin is a step in the right direction, but it isn\'t good enough. Give me a five inch 1080p (or more) with ~2.0 gh chip. 2 or more gb of ram. A 41 megapixel camera. A phone with HTC One level constriction. Something similar to moto\'s touch less control. This will never happen, but its nice to dream. That\'s what it would take for me to use an iPhone. (I do use an iPad 3, but my school requires me to use it.)
56. wrm2013 (Posts: 203; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
This 5 inch standard is ridiculous. 4.5 people.

What exactly are you going to do with a 2GHz SOC?
You do realize that this isn't Android right? You don't HAVE to have a quadcore at 2.3GHz to have a fluid and smooth experience.

If someone\'s opinion is different from yours, that doesn\'t mean that it is \"hate posts\", that mean that different people has different opinions even if one or another opinion somehow hurts your beloved company or product.
If I\'m correct, iPhone 5S doesn\'t have OIS.
46. Saamic (Posts: 119; Member since: 20 Feb 2012)
First of all, you are not incorrect about the 5S not featuring OIS as I just read the following, \"The camera does not feature optical image stabilization, but this improvement should improve things with shaky hands and blurry pictures.\" However, you are definitely incorrect about calling Apple my beloved company or the iPhone my beloved product... I have been an Android supporter since the release of the Samsung GS2 and have never even owned an iPhone. I\'m not stating that every post I see that disregards the 5S as a legitimate product is a hate post, and I am also not stating that a opinion that is not the same as mine makes it a hate post. Stop classifying my views on the opinions of others with your miscalculations and assumptions. Finally, I\'d like to state that the following posts were what I was referring to when I stated that there is a lot of hate in the phonearena comments section for the 5S today:
GrapeEyes: \"Phonearena get your tongue out of Apple arse.
Your breath stinks!!\"
GrapeEyes: \"Ha Ha Ha Ha 90% vote YES and it is still rising!!
Apple is doomed!!!\"
amilcarmz86: \"the same camera, different ways to take iphone buyers money... :).\"
GrapeEyes: \"How to get ripped off standard.\"
amilcarmz86: \"little iphone, inferior compared to big guys here... shame on the apple.\"
jduran541977: \"Still no nfc for the icrap what a disappointment still the same phone might as well wait for icrap 6\"
There are more, but I don\'t want to make this meaningless conversation a bigger deal than it already is
51. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Ok, now I see what you had in mind. :)
63. TheM16 (Posts: 80; Member since: 14 Aug 2013)
Yeah pal....y\'ll c a lot of hate and fanism in this forum .....too bad
Try reading \"Blackberry\", \"Nokia\" and \"Sony\" posts and y\'ll understand what i\'m saying. ;)
61. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Apple did do some good stuff....like.....
Dual core 1 ghz A7 chip with 64 bit processing
Increased the battery life from POOR to Below Average
Better camera from 8 mp to 8 MP!
NO OIS - that is Optical Image Stabilization & its camera doesn\'t have it, but it has digital image stabilization, is almost as good
finger print scanner is great - but for what? 007 might need it?
I MISS THE JOBS\' APPLE-THEY WERE INNOVATIVE. This is another wanna-be company with no imagination at all. The stock price is going to go down the crapper like it did last year when investors were disappointed with the 5. But now its even worse cause its the 5Same and the 5Cheap!
84. a_merryman (Posts: 749; Member since: 14 Dec 2011)
What are you talking about? The battery life on iPhones is great. It was one of the reasons I had switched to the 4s when it came out from my OG galaxy s. I would get about 1.5 days of battery life with texting throughout the day and a bit of web surfing. Compared to my galaxy which would only get 4 hours of life with little use after only a couple months. Battery life is one thing about iPhones that is irrefutably great.
111. David_Evans (Posts: 1; Member since: 11 Sep 2013)
They do make good products and i understand your viewpoint, the hate is not particularly on iPhone 5s itself, it's the mindset, affecting their presentation (and frankly their stock price as well). The thing is they blatantly used the same motto "it's revolutionary" "The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone" "Forward thinking."etc. But actually it's the same device over and over. I recently jumped from iOS to Android and truth to be told i miss that, i actually love the simplicity but in the same time it's god dang stricted. 64-bit chip? With that launch cycle every Q3 other manufacturer will quickly follows. Battery life? Man are you joking? It's a no par with other phones. Better picture quality? The sample images coming from apple always edited, an opinion from photographer, be real apple and give sample straight from the phone.
Apple revolution changes the way phone feel, look, and capability. I miss that, but nowadays they make something just to fulfill announcement cycles. Why bother making plastic iPhone 5C with the same spec as the metal iPhone 5? Do Apple understand now that their major audience now is not coming from people who wanted elegance and pure simplicity, but from pre-pubescent wanting to match their phone with those beats by dre headphones? Come on, i don't want bigger phone, fingerprint, and all those crap that already done by other maker, that's not revolution that's bulls**t. Make something that makes WOW not for the fanboys, or dimwit consumers, but from people that loathe Apple itself
113. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Where is apple.com stating they have Optical Image Stabilization in the 5S? That would truly be news.
117. yazbuh (Posts: 29; Member since: 21 Jun 2012)
yeah right the individuals that they are catering huh, that is why apple is bleeding market share and youre just too stubborn to admit it...
124. Akfred (banned) (Posts: 76; Member since: 08 Nov 2012)
Do we still need the so call fingerprint sensor? Its an
Old tech which is not necessary anymore. Our laptop
Had fingerprint sensors its not new, so that's not innovation
. The 64bit ish is just gimmick cos with a smooth OS like
IOS, I don't think 64bit is really relevant. Apple need new powerhorse
To sink in new idea to the company. IMO
42. Tre-Nitty (Posts: 468; Member since: 16 Nov 2010)
I don't think they're "loosing" anything! Maybe you meant losing, which they aren't!
48. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
\"Maybe you meant losing...\"
Thank you for correction. :)
104. TechBizJP08 (Posts: 495; Member since: 25 Mar 2013)
yeah, agree. iBoring now. The trend in phone now is not apple. They should follow the trend, \"Screen Size\", \"MP wars\", etc, etc. They have premium products and good OS. Its a plus, and the app stats in stores.. Too Disappointing..
112. jroc74 (Posts: 5980; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
I agree with this. Based on the poll answers I couldnt vote tho because I think they still have excellent products and I dont really feel they need something new and revolutionary.
But that mystic they had with the orig iPhone up to the iPhone 4...is gone IMO.

both iphone fans and haters together now ;)

I am upgrading from my iPod Touch 4 and Sony Ericsson G502.
I am not really considering Apple\\\'s phones, they are just no match for Android and Nokia phones.
And this is after spending hundreds in the AppStore and iTunes.
5. PapaSmurf (Posts: 10409; Member since: 14 May 2012)
There's no need for a poll when the answer has been yes since the announcement of the iPhone 4S.
102. amansingal14 (Posts: 309; Member since: 08 Sep 2012)
I rarely reply to comments agreeing with the previous person, but this time I have to say, PapaSmurf, you're absolutely right.
7. bucky (Posts: 2448; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
No need for a poll here as 95% of the people here are fandroids.
9. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Seems that you just don\'t want to face the truth. :)
26. bucky (Posts: 2448; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
The truth is I already tried the s4 and it wasn't on par with my iPhone 5.
The truth is I'm upgrading to the iPhone 5s :)
36. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
If I had to chose an iPhone, I would rather wait for iPhone 6. In my opinion it doesn\\\'t worth to upgrade if you already have an iPhone 5. But it is up to you. :)
123. bayusuputra (Posts: 961; Member since: 12 Feb 2012)
The only iPhone worth upgrading for is when the numbering changes. That, also, is only valid if you come from previous version, or feature phone.
73. tedkord (Posts: 9915; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Google "best smartphone." I did it the other day, went through the first three pages. CNET, PCMAG, Tech Radar, Phonearena... Not a single review site i read in those results listed the iPhone 5 as the best. Most had either the S4 or One. The iPhone was at least third on each. The common theme was the lack of function.
Now, I did skip some sites that had amateurish names is never heard of, so I don't know what any of them said.
95. -box- (Posts: 3991; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Remember when siri said the best phone was a Lumia, and apple had to patch the software to make it say "the one in your hand"? Good times...
47. HeWhoDoesNothing (Posts: 157; Member since: 15 Jul 2013)
This is the "S". Although I personally think they added a substantial amount of niceties compared to the 5, the real "innovation" or change comes in 2014 with the iPhone 6. I'm looking forward to it already. (I still prefer Android though)
13. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Also your comment just proves that people are leaving iPhone.
17. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
If so, then question is why they are leaving? Because there is more Android fans? And if there is more Android fans than it was before, that just again proves the fact that people are leaving iPhone. Simple logics! ;)
28. bucky (Posts: 2448; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
I don't like to bash android because its a great OS but it seems like the hardcore annoying fans are with android now just as they were with the iPhone before.
82. Dr.Tom (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Both OS have there good points. Having used Apple before and now Nexus, I wish Apple had just made better improvements than they did. The screen is small by todays standard, the battery is below average, it had a good camera and they could have made a great 12-18mp one, but didnt! Its cpu was good and they had thousands of apps, but the upgrade to 64 bit cpu means zero apps now; is that an improvement overall? Not in my book! APPLE struck out! Now I\'m waiting to see if the Nexus5 is the new LG G2.
45. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
\"annoying\" is a adjective not a counter. ;)
27. quesoesgrande (Posts: 217; Member since: 03 Aug 2011)
You\'re stretching things a little here, though I would like to agree with you.
40. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
\"You\'re stretching things a little here...\"
Maybe just a little bit, but I\'m still sure that there is a part of truth in my comment. :)

Actually there are many windows phone users
30. RoyalPayne (banned) (Posts: 458; Member since: 07 Aug 2013)
It helps boost their ego to get to vote down Apple, nothing else! Coz in real world, Apple does, others follow! :D
81. RoyalPayne (banned) (Posts: 458; Member since: 07 Aug 2013)
It\'s a 64 bit OS. See android follow it in 2014.
86. Teeeyoo (Posts: 97; Member since: 13 Jul 2013)
Thats more likely to happen after all samsung is manufacturing their chips..
96. -box- (Posts: 3991; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Like how apple followed Nokia in making black-front phones with colorful backs?
