Hands-on with the Nokia N8

0. phoneArena posted on 26 Jun 2010, 15:46

From what we've been reporting numerous times, Nokia is surely banking on this Symbian^3 powered device to hit it out of the ballpark and prove to gain some mainstream...

I'll be interested to see how well touch symbian runs on this handset. I honestly think Nokia should have opted to put Maemo 5 on this device, and then brought more support to the maemo platform. It's a shame, really, Symbian's just not a sexy OS and people don't get pumped up over it anymore. I'm still excited about trying the N8 out though.

true, its not sexy... but its so functional and this phone is one serious powerhouse as far as specs are concerned. Im gonna love the 12mp snapper, usb on-the-go, and the hdmi out on this baby! can't wait.... i want a blue one

We'll see how Nokia markets this unit. If they hook up with a carrier and people can get it subsidized, it can do very well in the States Even though it's unlocked, the 5800 sold like hotcakes and is still selling because it reached a very attractive price point. Americans for the large part don't buy unlocked phones though.

You're right about that, Nokia needs to up their marketing. The fluidity of the interface I've seen so far in a bunch of videos online is promising. Another thing to consider though is that the battery of this phone is only 1200 mah. That's terrible. The n900 has a 1320 mah battery and don't listen to any review about the battery of the n900...it's ass. If you're connected to the internet the majority of the day, be prepared to plug that baby in whenever you have down time. They should have outfitted the N8 with a 1500 mah battery, that would give it enough juice to be connected to 3g for a whole day on a single charge.

Based on preview N8 is able to live up for whole two days.

Yeah, if say AT&T picks it up and treats it like the iPhone, and doesn't mess with anything, then yes, it'll do well here. Otherwise it'll be kicked down a few notches, and Nokia's name will be ruined by the carriers even more than it's already been tarnished by the media and S^1, and people will never know what a Nokia is really made of.
