Hands-on with the Apple iPhone 4
Hands-on with the Apple iPhone 4
The latest version of the iPhone is finally here as there are many consumers around the country getting situated with the venerable smartphone for the very first time. Already seen by many eyes over the course of the last few months through a handful of leaks, the device is officially here and is positioned as changing everything – again. While we're taking our first hands-on look at the highly touted handset that's been given its biggest overall, both from a hardware and software standpoint, we're initially pleased to see how quaint the device looks over some of the existing plethora of slab-like smartphones we've been accustomed to seeing. Design-wise, it's a refreshing sight to behold as we can tell that Apple meticulously paid attention to every small detail in the overall look of the handset. Although it may not be overly ground breaking, the industrial design exemplifies Apple's continued approach of handcrafting something that truly embodies a premium product. Prior to officially launching, iOS 4 was unleashed to the masses and also refreshes the experience just a bit more to breathe some more life to the handset. If you're looking for a need for speed, the iPhone 4's lightning quick interface makes it feel quite intuitive when navigating around the platform. We're anxious to take it for a test drive and see how it is able to reinvent the game – so sit tight and expect our in-depth review soon!

Huh... wonder if the in-depth review is going to be a little bias? I don't know if there could be anymore apple ass-kissing adjectives in this article. What's also funny is that right below this article on the 'News & Articles' page is an article about yellow dots on the screens and bad grounds in the external antenna... "meticulously paid attention to every small detail" indeed.

Its funny how they say the EVO is the best phone available right now and yet on their EVO vs Iphone 3GS, they simply stated that they were "equal". Obviously to avoid getting flamed in their asses by angry apple fan boys. They will kiss ass to apple products because they fear being spamed with hate mail. How can you say the EVO is equal to the 3GS and say the EVO is the best phone available. So we all know iphonearena is going to say the iphone 4 is the great thing since sliced bread and nothing even comes close and that every other phone should just drop dead and everyone should get the iphone 4.

Oops and you forgot that while you weren't multitasking that Android UI is completely interchangeable...you have to download 4 pages of crap just to get more than one screen showing. Have fun with your little squares. Simple minds simple pleasures.

Most of what you said I agree with. However have you even seen the Droid X compared to the Droid 1 and 2? Are you dumb? Oh wait the names are very similar I guess thats where you got off saying that. Im not defending the Droid and Droid 2, yes they are almost identical. But You have to be blind to think, even remotely, that the Droid X looks anything like the other 2.

Two complaints are being heard First is yellow blemishes on some new phones. This is the result of the failure to have adequate curing time for the adhesive used in construction of the display. Use the phone for a few days and the blemish(s) should gob away. Second is a reduction in the number of bars in the signal strength indicator when the phone is held in hand. This same problem appears on 3G and 3GS phones that have the OS4 upgrade. The problem appears to be associated with the operating system and is not an accurate indication of signal strength to the carrier. I installed OS4 on my 3GS and initiated a call as soon as I picked up the phone. The strength indicator showed fewer and fewer bars but the quality of the call was not affected nor was the call dropped. I just wanted to give you a leg up on these two major issues.

PhoneArena will provide the highest praise of the iPhone and Apple products. But bring up the Droid,Evo, Blackberry, or any other smartphone and they are quick to find flaws in their products and design. This site is so pro apple its ridiculous. If its not an Apple Product, expect a "mediocre" review...

How do ya figure? Evo, incredible, and HD2 all got 9+ in their full reviews. Quit complaining

Exactly. They give so many updates on the Android products. Basically, they follow what Engadget has to offer. TI'm glad there aren't stupid people like this one commenting on that site.

It's funny to me that people come in here and talk negatively about Apple "fanboys" and everything Apple has to offer, and then call yourselves things like "droidman", etc...who's the fanboy now? Jus' sayin. I've used almost everything out there, and the author of this column is absolutely correct, there is no better constructed device out there than the iPhone. That's signature Apple, almost everything they make is aluminum, or high grade plastic and feels like a million bucks...but for their price, I would expect nothing less. And they deliver. That new MyTouch Slide from HTC feels like a child play thing.

Really that's because after four drops that thing was history I bet you could drop the mytouch slide ten times that amount and it would still work. Hd2 was run over by a car and was still able to function know what your talking about before you open your mouth yeah the iPhone is made out sapphire crystal that's nice but people who spend their hard earned money should not have a device so fragile

You know, its kinda interesting. I don't think that any other phone has ever received so many loud-mouthed comments from people who hate it so much (for no reason but to troll of course and attract attention) - and despite having some technical problems - which appear to be software related (according to phil0817) - just like many other phones - still continues to sell like crazy. Let me tell you what I believe. I believe that Apple will get through this. This is probably their least stellar product release yet. First there was this thing with the Gizmodo scumbags, then there were some technical problems at WWDC during the demonstration, next was a failure in the online pre-order system on AT&T, and now these technical problems kinda mar it's launch. But I believe Apple will get through this. The iPhone 4 is still selling like crazy, and I'm sure they will release a workaround these aforementioned issues. Until then the comments by various mindless idiots on this site who like bashing the iPhone 24 hours a day just so they can pimp their ego will continue. I advice every sane person to ignore the likes of droidman and others. We are all better than that. Regardless what you feel to the iPhone, being it passionate love, or insane rage. There is a proper way to discuss and post your opinion on things. Have a nice day.
