Hamburg cops keep Lumia brand alive with purchase of 900 handsets

0. phoneArena 18 Mar 2017, 21:05 posted on

The Lumia brand of Windows Phone has been dead for some time. It has been nearly 18 months since a new Lumia model was introduced, and the most powerful Windows handset is made by HP, not Microsoft. But now, several law enforcement agencies have turned to Windows 10 Mobile, Lumia, and the Unified Windows Platform in order. to reduce the time spent on paperwork. Less time spent on paperwork equals more time spent on police work...

900 sets = $119.44 USD per phone (definitely not high-end model).

900 units won't keep Lumia alive for long but if they order for the whole Hamburg police force then the Lumia phone line would be making progress.

Most likely Lumia 650's. High end model - no, but it definitely punches above it's weight at that price.

Pretty much all Lumias are very good performers once you factor price to performance ratio. Shame to see MS Phones die such an unspectacular death.

There are still countless million of PCs and Laptops with Win10 that can access Win store.

The store wasn't as exciting as Google or Apple but was decent. MS Phones are almost as good as dead but Win store will live on in Win10 and beyond.

i bet there are new Microsoft Windows smart phones coming because more than likely the Hamburg purchasing agents were told Microsoft is going to support these windows10 mobile smart phones and is developing new ones that will come to the market in the future. in other
words Microsoft will stay in the smart phone game even if it's a low sales player

Can you imagine that Skype for Business isn't supported on WP? On Android it is. So MS is adding to the app gap themselves...

Is that so? Or it isn't? When you make a statement like this you should first check that information.

So, Microsoft rapidly continues to develop Windows Mobile. They are resetting the platform (again) and soon they will offer a much better OS then any other. I'm using Android and Windows Mobile (beta versions of the OS, Slow ring) and from what I can see, I have already much better windows handset that is more usable for business than Android it is.

I liked the UI of Windows Phone 7, could you actually reproduce it in Windows 10 Mobile (do not have a Lumia, HP, or Alcatel windows phone)?

I can do this in SquareHome 2, it gives you the tile pivots (cubes, in this instance) that Microsoft didn't even keep around after Windows Phone 7.5 ...

Context: Cubes are so much better than folders, but you can replicate the old two tiles per row layout seen in Windows Phone using just cubes so you can still put a lot of applications on the desktop without cluttering your SquareHome interface...

I really like Windows Mobile to be a better competitor to iOS. Its UI are smooth and I like the way MS is closing it's system for better security. Yet they did nothing in 2015 when the OS was currently the fasting growing on market share.

The demise of Windows Phones are a great tragedy in mobile space. Microsoft was the only one with the potential to become a formidable rival to Android and iOS. Now, there is no one else to challenge the two Titans in the foreseeable future.I don't know what it would take to surpass android and apple TBH.

It really just goes down to apps, I personally love my BlackBerry Passport and there's not a single other handset I see myself wanting, but when I show it around people ask me, 'does it do snapchat?' so titans yes, now creativity? Nah, app gap is the only thing that would make people want to switch

Folks since Microsoft is targeting it's smart phones to be sold to Businesses and institutions. where is the New Surface smart phones. the time is NOW for them to come out before people think they do not exist. It's been 17 months since the 950/950 XL flagship Windows smart phones came. Apple and Android new smart phones have upgraded twice. what is wrong at Microsoft. they have to make their own smart phone and market it well to let People know that they are still in the game. what is the Hold up?
