Half the people watching television ad confused the Samsung GALAXY Tab for the Apple iPad
0. phoneArena 08 Aug 2012, 18:57 posted on
Internal Samsung documents revealed in court on Wednesday, showed that those watching television commercials for the Samsung GALAXY Tab thought that the ad was for the Apple iPad; only 16% of those viewing the spot correctly knew that the device was a Samsung product...

I seriously don't understand what's wrong with the people. Do they seriously think Apple invented the Tablet? Is iPad the only tablet in the market? Various manufacturers make tablets with rectangles and the color black. Does it mean every tablet in the market is an iPad? In the commercials, it clearly says Galaxy Tab, not iPad. Even if you have words stretched across the screen saying its a Galaxy Tab, not an iPad and you mistake it for an iPad, something's wrong with you.

This is the power of marketing and people just being utterly lazy. People are so stupid to realize that iPod is a brand name, many don't know that it's an MP3 player(that dense). TV commercials that 16% of Koreans can't tell that the Galaxy TAB is not an iPad is deplorable, do these people know how to read? I'm pretty sure that you can read that Samsung logo on the front, if you can't then obviously the tablet isn't something you should be buying. Get your eyes checked.
Now even if they look similar, when you go to buy one, you open your mouth and say iPad, I'm pretty sure no one is going to mistake those words for Galaxy TAB 10.1...if I was a judge I would be wondering if Apple expected me to believe that customers are that dumb? Samsung look like they took a marketing exercise from Apple, copied their style, but if the app drawer open on the SGS makes it look like an iPhone, then there are loads of other Android phones that look pretty close to that. Lawyers are extremely good liars to be able to get this so far into the judicial process, this is one stupid ass case no matter how you look at it. It's basically Apple trying to say that customers are stupid and can't tell the difference between two thin tablet like and phone like devices, considering that both have logos that are worlds apart in look and design and are called by completely different names. Nope potential sheep might think our iPhone actually does SMS(when it didn't then) we must litigate to say that they copied our shape(rectangle) and icon 4x4 setup on the screen. That should be enough to win the case, if not we'll just pay some professional witnesses(really, is this a career, I want in.) Samsung should argue that every apple device thus far always has one large logo on the rear of the device and our devices always have the name of our company and the device name. Looking at the OG iPhone and the SGS next to one another with screens on to the main home screens of each, you'd find that only in shape and dimensions they look similar, but only an idiot would say that you couldn't which was the apple device and which was the samsung. I mean the SGS has samsung written on the face of it FCOL.
Pfft, professional witnesses, I swear that sounds like it's a full time job or something.

... and since everybody has somehow affected by all kind of commercials... let the monkeys distinguish those phones and tablets... lol...

If at the point of purchase you thought that a device packaged in a box labelled SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB was an iPad, then either you can't read or you need to have your eyes checked.

I wish the fanboys would open their eyes and see the bigger picture of things to come. Competition is what the best thing for US, the consumer. Not for the company itself. Do you really want to ban the competition just to make your prized company happy? They will also be happy to raise the prices of all of your beloved products since there won't be any competition left.
In the end, this trial is bad for us, because nobody who wins, we lose. Samsung wins, apple will owe a ton of money to Samsung and then Apple will raise the prices of their products to get back what they lost, and that's bad for us. If Apple wins, Samsung's products might be banned and we will lose serious competition for Apple. That means Apple will once again, raise the prices of their products.
This isn't a damn sport's game you need to cheer on your beloved team to win. We do not win no matter what happens. It's more money out of our pockets and I don't care how rich you feel holding an iphone or ipad in your hand.

All this means is that when people (and by people I mean the general public) when they think "tablet" what automatically comes to mind is an iPad. Or they just call all tablets iPads..
All this really is, is Apple doing what it always does and establishing itself in the general consumers most common thought process in relation to electronics. Not a case of Samsung playing copycat. I'd much prefer the Galaxy Tab to look like an iPad than have a bright red edge around the screen.
Apple just needs to let this go so my phone and tech sites can stop reporting boring court stories.

The title of this article should be changed to: "Half the people watching Samsung television ad are iDiots"

All this proves is that stupid people live outside the US, and not just in the US.

Is that a Pontiac Solstice or a Saturn Skyye... I can't tell... Seriously asking the public that knows nothing about the technology or how to use it is sooo dumb!

Andriod fans need to realize ios came first than its andriod. than its window. No matter what say apple created a smartphone culture, they are the pioneer.
83. ogy_dogy (Posts: 453; Member since: 29 Jun 2012)
Ok, but look at it this way, whoever made the first smartphone should sue apple for using the term and building their own. All this patent junk is ridiculous. every person in the world (except th owners of a few companies) would be better off if patents never existed...

I would argue Blackberry created a smartphone culture ....
Everybody had blackberries at one time.

Apple has succeeded at making social constructions in favor of their ideologies (i.e: you-all-copied-us), one in which Samsung is, sadly, a victim. The more they grow in power (socially), and the farther their ideas reach out, the more people will be consciously and subconsciously inclined to suckle on their hairy teets of consumerism, ending up in favoritism.
TLDR: Successful trolling achieves fans, no matter what.

I bet the survey was done in US -> you make the conclusions. Hint: they are not the smartest people in the world, to put it mildly ;)
82. ogy_dogy (Posts: 453; Member since: 29 Jun 2012)
My mom cant distinguish any tab from the ipad, so what, everyone else is supposed to stop making tablets cos apple has a square slab? next thing you know theyll be patenting circles... the usa is going to drown itself in its regulations. overall the chineese copycats have done more good for the entire mankind than apple ever will...

People who doesn't see the difference are either stupid, ignorant or high.
88. u-suck-more (Posts: 529; Member since: 26 Aug 2011)
these casual watchers make up majority of the sales for phones and tablets. we, the 'informed' ones, make up less than 5%. so if majority of them think that the Samsung G Tab was an iPad, than i believe Apple has a case. you can go ahead and call them idiots and etc but there is no denying the truth. Samsung fanboys wont be able to take the news because their Samsung is ''too good a company'' to do anything as low as copying. well, i hate Samsung anyway..
read this article happily from my Asus Transformer Prime ^_^

ASUS Transformer Prime, 'ey? Hope ASUS and Google have their ducks in a row with their Nexus 7, with rumours of a mini iPad circulating.
93. good2great (Posts: 953; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
my opinion, the people who can't clearly see samsung made a tablet that looks exactly like the iPad are in total denial. if there wasn't a samsung logo on it you can't tell me you didn't think it was an iPad.
get real people!
not saying samsung should be fined or banned but you can clearly see that they took apple's swag to try to become a successful phone manufacturer for android. i can't hate on that...
but its a COPY

good points....I can respect your opinion....+1
97. u-suck-more (Posts: 529; Member since: 26 Aug 2011)
yes u cant tell the difference but the resident Samsung fanboys will tell u that you can see the difference. oh, and they will give u a list (which everyone alr knows abt) of designs Apple copied from. typical losers who cant accept the fact that Samsung isn't as great as they thought it is.
lemme point out, im NOT an Apple fanboy, before any of u b*tches start calling me one. i love Android, but hate Samsung (:

you have to be retarded to mistake g tab for iPad, in every scene you see the g tab there is Samsung name clearly visible and readable.
100. Pdubb (Posts: 225; Member since: 08 Aug 2011)
Lawdy Lawdy Lawdy!! This is so silly. It looks like an iPad a little. But the Samsung logo is clearly visible in all those shots. It clearly did not hurt Apple sales because they still have upwards of 70% of the tablet market. Samsung has what 3-8%. Design cues are often used in products like the Chrysler 300 took cues from the Bentley. Similar but different enough that you can tell them apart by looking just a little closer. Same thing here at a glance they look alike but anything longer than a second and you can clearly see that they are not the same.

Only 16% see something with a Samsung logo on it and know it's a Samsung?

117. rei-gouki (Posts: 7; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
umm... did you mean, "Samsung owes Apple for advertising [iPads]???"
120. hulumanu (Posts: 11; Member since: 26 Jul 2012)
mmm... no, since Samsung paid for the ads, and majority of people thought it an ad for iPad, Apple got free advertising... so, Apple owes Samsung.... ;)
107. ftyler223 (Posts: 140; Member since: 06 Aug 2012)
The galaxy tab is huge chunk of plastic and laggy as s**t. Apple owns this world whether you like it or not! fan droids that want a tablet have no choice but to sit on daddy apples lap and get the best they can for they're money. lol. I love all the guys with they're droid phones that talk about apple sucking so much but then checking the news on they're ipads its hilarious.
118. rei-gouki (Posts: 7; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
So... in your opinion, there's no contest... so do you think Apple was in their right mind spending their profits on blocking sales of such an inferior product rather than on R&D?
121. itriker (Posts: 6; Member since: 12 Aug 2012)
Wow. Only 16% of people watching this advetisement on TV knew what they were advertising for. The rest were like "I love Apple!". This article really tells alot about people.
123. perry1234 (Posts: 4; Member since: 14 Aug 2012)
What the heck ? If people (included in survey) can't differentiate between an iPad and a Samsung tab , they must be REALLY dumb! Seriously we can just make out from the beginning of the ad whether it's an apple or Samsung product.
These companies are trying to portray the consumer as a dumbass and a dork.
124. ftyler223 (Posts: 140; Member since: 06 Aug 2012)
Rei-gouki to answer you're question no there is no contest. If you're going to get a tablet the iPad is the best choice. The tablet world is owned by them! Sure they're are some nice droid tablets out there but still aren't as good. In a couple yrs yes maybe they will surpass apple but for now no contest. This looks all but too familiar. Android didn't surpass apple right away. It took them quite awhile and then finally they got it right with a couple devices. It's the same deal. This is why apple is the best. They make one device that lasts 2 yrs and receives multiple updates. While android just slings a bunch of bulls**t then finally takes the shine a few months b4 apple releases they're next product. This is the cycle. Now come next month its apples turn again. Get it together. Smart phones great comp. Tablets not so much. Youre either stupid or too broke to not go for an iPad if you are looking for a tablet. I have a lot of friends that prefer droid phones but admit that apple has the best tablet by far
