It certainly has the specs but that is only half the battle. Its the same I thought about the possible HTC Phablet. But from the looks of it, its not worth regardless of those specs.

I'm not really into iOS devices as a phone.
I prefer android devices as phones, although iOS devices are better toys.

i hope this does get the Droid Branding. i'm quite found of the Droid series.

why would it need to be droid branded?

Droid branding has nothing to do with the quality of the phone. The HTC thunderbolt wasn't the droid thunderbolt, and it had no effect on the quality of the device. the HTC rezound wasn't droid branded... and that has been one of the best devices on verizon.

Droid branding doesn't give the phone some special edge.

droid is android... android is droid.

I don't think the snapdragon s4's adreno 225 graphics can handle that kind of resolution but htc obviously thought of that. So, we will all see what works out ?

I would have loved to get this but with no microsd and not even a stylus, its not worth it in my opinion. I could have up to 128GB of space with the note 2 including more polished software instead of a start and a stylus. The value of the higher screen is not even worth it.

are accessories really THAT important? while it may not have a stylus it will indeed have a better design than samungs note 2.......you can guarantee that......htc's design is always better and more premium than samsung....

If no sd card slot then lets hope it has 32 gb internal memory installed and if it does then there is no doubt in my mind this will be a better choice than the note 2

You make some great points. But there is one thing that is the last problem and thats the software. Samsung has had practice with these types of devices and is releasing their second. HTC on the other hand had a failure for a tablet with little success and a so-so record on their phones (though the new ones show great promise). So the question is would you trust a first try by HTC or a second by Samsung?

its like this dude.....yea samsung may have better software than htc and that can be opinionated....but if you really look at it htc's software isnt THAT far from samsung! if its behind at all.... so the question is do you prefer a phone (or phablet), that has "good" software and a great design or do you prefer a phone that jus delivers in the software area and has a pretty normal and..... well........ cheap design? i say its a steal because you can have both beauty and power.......but of course the choice is yours for the making

another thing is that software is pretty much unlimited in terms of usability once you root it :D Which is why I rate build quality+specs > software. Not that HTC's software is bad, imo its a lot better than touchwiz. However gnote's s-pen software is definitely optimised for a pen :3

With that size, I agree on ur point... lack of stylus will be a negative.
But "Polished software"... Well between touch wiz & sense.... Sense wins hands down!!

This sounds like real powerhouse, but I really hope the design is subtle but tough like Motorola's designs. This phone really does look like a very, very attractive phone. I will look at this phone too, just like the Droid Razr HD Maxx and the upcoming Motorola Nexus phone. I want to see this Incredible X in action, and definitely want to gloss over that screen too.

Alright.. I want some editor to answer me this one.

Why the constant labeling this as a phablet?
That is pure ignorance really!
This here device hah only 0.2inch longer diagonal than the S3, and could very well not be larger at all overall!
It is just a phone with a really large screen, like the Panasonic Eluga Power(a device not larger than Galaxy S3)

Note 2 and this cannot compare.
Note has WAY bigger screen.
Period.

Yeah, but not everyone wants a bigger screen, especially if they want it to work as a phone. The "bigger is better" trend with Android devices has to stop somewhere, or we'll all be talking into our Nexus 7 HDs.

i wouldnt buy a note 2, id buy this htc phablet. i prefer htc's build and software. even if u dont like the software, u can change it easily with launchers and roms so i look at hardware more than software so id buy an htc device. im buying a att one x in a few weeks but im excited to see what happens at the htc event on the 19th, more excited than the iphone 5 announcement which was way over hipped (im not a fanboy of anything i just prefer htc's android devices)

Again, this is not a freaking phablet.
It is a phone that might not even be larger than the galaxy S3.

Difference between 5.5 and 5.0 inch on a 16:9 ratio is striking.
Have you checked Panasonic Eluga Power?
Would you call that a phablet?
Will a next galaxy S4 be a phablet if retaining the same dimensions but with a 0.2 inches bigger screen?

You guys - including the staff of this site - should get your facts straight.

well then mr. darac. where would you draw the Phablet line huh? if the Note was considered a Phablet at 5.3" then how could this be so different?

posted on 16 Sep 2012, 17:14

53. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)

There's an important difference here - the aspect ratio.
Note had a 16:10 aspect ratio - overall its screen is barely smaller than that of the successor actually.
If you have a 5.3 inch screen of 16:10 ratio and 5.3 inch screen of 16:9 ratio, the former will be noticeably larger.
Hence Note 1 had only marginally smaller screen surface than the Note 2; its screen is in fact wider (some sources say that it is even bigger..you can calculate it by your self actually, I'm too lazy for that now :p)

54. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)

..just to add Optimus Vu to make this point even clearer.
It has "only" 5 inch diagonal but the surface is actually larger than the 5.3 inch screen of the first Note.
Why?
Because of the 3:2 aspect ratio that makes the screen really wide and spacious.

So yes, aspect ratio plays just as big role size-wise, as the diagonal. Wider screen is larger than the narrower if they have the same diagonal length.
Theoretically you could have a 100 inch diagonal but a surface area of 0.1 square inch or even smaller - it all depends on the width.

you can run through it all you'd like but the difference is still so marginal that it all still comes down to personal perception. where does one draw the line between big phone and phablet. something like this that's practically on the line can really be one or the other. i have large hands so i guess this could fall into large phone category for me but for a girl with small hands something like this would be like a Note with a 5.3" display to me.
