Everyone acts like apple is the most hated now, but honestly, i asked my family (all iphone users) did you know that apple is suing samsung/htc/ ect, and they just asked me what htc was, and they didnt know what was going on. I dont really care about htc/pantech/lg. i only care about Samsung and Apple, no matter what, they are the best in my eyes!

Yeah, but you know what? If ever I describe the facts of the case to people, they generally agree that Apple is being a group of douches over the lawsuits.

I mean, apart from their forced payment to Nokia, when have you ever heard of them paying royalties to anyone for any patents other companies hold?

christianqwerty if you family lives - or had lived in Europe - and supposedly wanted to buy a Tablet which looks the best to the average person and from a very known brand - they would have known what's going on with the lawsuits - as they would have been unable to purchase the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Can you say stupid?? What crack was the executives at HTC smoking? Google's android is under attack by Oracle (after acquiring Sun's Java) and HTC decides to go to bed with Google.

This is going to end very badly for everyone, except the lawyers.

Since there is no outcome for the case yet....how are they stupid? For all we know Oracle might not win.

Remember once upon a time there was an Apple case where they just knew they had Samsung nailed suing over 10 patents...

Turned only 1 was legit and that didnt even necessarily involve Samsung.

"For all we know Oracle might not win."

Such an outcome isn't in the cards thus far. Google's attorneys thought they could invalidate the Sun patents, but only 1 was invalidated. The rest are still valid. There will be a trial in October, unless Google cuts a deal to settle. Maybe Google might win something on appeal to further whittle down what the ultimate damage amount will be. But getting off scott free? Doubtful.

And this is why motorola let google buy them (probably some other reasons), but google is now taking android to the offensive against Apple. Now that google shares all does patents with motorola, they are going to give them a few important patents to every mayor android manufacturer, to start suing apple then google is going to step it up them selfs take all the big pantents from motorola and the ones that originated from them and use it against apple, to calm them down.

You guys don't get the picture. When its all said and done who controls Nokia will be the winner. So in that case Microsoft has the upper hand in the end. And guess what Apple and Microsoft are mutual friends for the minute and that means Google is the biggest loser.

How is Google the biggest loser, they are only doing what Apple started doing to them. Apple is trying to ban every manufacture that makes android devices from being sold in the USA and other countries. Google has every right to protect themselves, just like how Apple teamed up with microsft and rim and got the patients to screw over Google, so why not buy Motorola and use those patients to protect the Android platform.

+1

I don't like to see any product get ban, it is way too harsh, on other hand Apple is the one start it. And I just like to see Apple taste of what they had created. Then at the end Apple learn not to crazy that one day the same game come back and bite them, end of all all company seat down and work with every other company to make better product.

To me, if a copycate is personate what you are doing then sue them for the damage plus $ on each device its sold.

What we get annoyed about, Taco (note: this is about the fiftieth time we've explained this to you) is that Apple has a history of suing the bejeezus out of everyone else for making any product, icon, or name remotely similar to any of their products or services while flatly refusing to pay a penny of royalties to any other company for the patents they apparently violate. And considering that Motorola and Nokia are original players in the cell phone market, there are a ton of patents they hold that Apple probably violated with the iPhone.

It's a blatantly hypocritical stance, and quite honestly, the patents Apple sues over generally appear quite petty and inane compared to the patents all the other companies are pulling up and bringing to bear against Apple.

Why after all this time do you still refuse to get this?

And heres where you're a hypocrite. When Apple gets sued it's legitimate, but when Apple sues it's petty. Apple seems to be doing pretty well with their lawsuits so far so I'd say they have ground to stand on.

posted on 08 Sep 2011, 02:02 4

Apple's lawsuits so far have not resulted in a single financial reward, and the patents they've actually made headway with are so simple to circumvent that all the headway they HAVE gained will be lost almost immediately.

Here's the problem, Taco: Apple is suing over bulls**t like icon appearance and general usage of gestures. Motorola and Nokia are suing over things like the HARDWARE THAT ALLOWS THE IPHONE TO PLACE CALLS. And while Moto may have sued Apple first, their lawsuits came after they claimed Apple absolutely REFUSED to pay them a dime for violating their patents.

If Apple has legitimate patents, fine, whatever, let 'em sue. But for them to go crazy with lawsuits like they have while refusing to pay anything to anyone else for all the hard work THEY'VE done is what I have an actual problem with.

apple sues over similar looks.. which arent patented. Apple gets sued over patents which are a lot more serious than "waaaah, samsung is using the same color red in an icon as me!!"

Design is very serious. You cant steal the look of a phone. Apple is a very design based company and are very protective of their designs. Its part of what makes a iphone special. Its so good looking.
Really sniggly apple cant make calls now because other companies did it first. Thats like saying other phones cant have a touchscreen. Its insane.

the iPhone doesn't really have any real signature touches other than the obvious things like the home button and the Apple Logo. it's really just a black case that holds everything it needs to work within it's defined parameters.

you can't sue for materials or shape. as far as the look of the UI Samsung is kind of pushing it but they've BEEN pushing it. the only reason Apple cares is because Samsung is becoming more and more successful.

When it's a minor design cue, like the color of an icon, it's pretty petty.

And I'm not saying that Apple shouldn't be allowed to make a cell phone. Just that if they're going to do it based on tech that other companies have spent billions of dollars in R&D to develop they shouldn't expect to sidestep any royalty payments while suing everyone else and their brother.

of course you're not going to speak against HTC's reaction to Apple. you know we'd jump so far down your throat reminding you of all the di** moves Apple made that it wouldn't even be worth it.

Apple didn't come out lawsuits loaded until everybody and their moms were in Apple's eyes infringing for years. if Apple really cared then they could have nipped it all in the bud years ago but they didn't, they chose now. why now you wonder? because genuine threats to Apple's success are arising. even an idiot like you should be able to project Google and their partners overtaking Apple within the next couple of years at their rate of progression.

Apple is like a teenage girl. she sees a girl try to copy her and she just thinks it's cute until it starts making her cooler than herself, then she starts bitching.

Actually you're wrong. Watch Steve Jobs announce the original iPhone. He mentions how Apple has patented the heck out of it and they plan to protect it.

Comparing a corporation to a teenage girl shows how warped and out of touch with reality your thinking is.

You clearly didn't even watch that, Taco. Which is surprising actually.

SJ says they patented MULTI-TOUCH - Not the whole of the iPhone. Wrong. Again.

And just so you know - afaik - that patent was granted to them by mistake - since multi-touch apparently existed way before the iPhone.

oh did he? when i remember the original Galaxy Tab that came out well after your original iPhone announcement Apple didn't really seem like they were in a big rush to protect themselves from what the Tab represented to their company when it was announced and that was really just a thorn in their side at the most and now i see reports of the unveiling of "similar" products like the new 7.7" Galaxy Tab being crashed by Apple's injunctions. what's the difference between the two? well one is vastly superior to the other. guess which one is causing this aggressive behavior all of a sudden. if they were serious years ago they might have pulled it off.

it's what comes to mind when i see how Apple competes in this space.

then why try to convince us you don't care when you clearly do? judging from how fast you point a finger at something you think is dirty i don't think you'd act so differently from us if the roles were reversed. if it's one thing you don't come off as taco is detached.
