HTC S640

The new CDMA S640 was officially presented today by HTC at its web-site. It is equipped with EV-DO Rev. A (3G) and Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The hardware specifics of S640 include 400 MHz processor, 256 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM, 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus, Bluetooth, microSDHC card slot, QWERTY keyboard and 65K colors 2.8” touch-screen, supporting resolution of 320x240 pixels. At that time the phone is offered only by TELUS Canada, but we hope it will come also to the States.

This unit launched on Telus in Canada last week and it says on the site for Telus that it is WM6 Standard (no touchscreen). What is up with that? Is the HTC site wrong? The S640 is listed on the HTC site under "Sliding QWERTY" products when it is obviously a "Traditional QWERTY". This is all very strange... Who has the wrong info??? The HTC site even pictures the Telus unit. The S640 (Iris) has been shown elsewhere as a "smartphone" and not a touchscreen unit...

YES! This is exactly what I wanted from HTC. This phone is a WM Treo killer. But the post above mine and the buttons on the phone seem to suggest that this is indeed a WM6 Standard edition phone. When will HTC realize there is a huge market for this style of phone running WMPro? I guess I'll just keep waiting for the Treo 800.
