HTC says the Merge will be released this Spring

0. phoneArena posted on 25 Feb 2011, 15:06

Now we're hearing from HTC directly about the Merge, saying that it will be "made available through multiple North American carriers beginning in spring 2011." Notice that Verizon Wireless isn't mentioned at all, and the Verizon logo has been removed from the front of the device in the PR image, though that still doesn't rule-out Verizon carrying it.

yeah I really wanted this phones! I love the design and keyboard. but its a little too late now. If it was released on ATT I might still consider getting it. But since its CDMA I doubt that will happen. Sad, I think a lot of people would get this phone.

Well it says the phone will be going to multiple carriers so there's a chance it will be heading to AT&T

it's likely heading in some form or another to AT&T and Verizon being that HTC already has variants on T-Mobile and Sprint in the forms of the G2 and the EVO Shift.

Sadly, it wont be released on AT&T or T-Mobile because it is a CDMA only device which means it wont be functional with AT&T/T-Mobiles GSM technology (sim cards)

i know that, what i meant was i'm sure the same thing will come to AT&T WITH their GSM bands.

I have been drooling over this phone since I saw thae specs back in November. Happy to see that it is finally going to drop on Verizon, I am overdue for a upgrade, and have been holding out and holding on to my Motorola Droid A855 in hopes of getting this phone. Now it looks like its going to be real that we have it soon!!! Cant wait!!!

I wanted this when it was 'supposed' to be a world phone from Verizon. Now what the heck is it? Verizon or not? GSM or CDMA or both? This phone will be scrapped like the HTC Eris by the time it's released. What a shame. Come on Verizon give me an HTC Android phone I can travel with. I don't want a Crackberry, and the iPhone doesn't work on both systems either.

It is gonna be both GSM and CDMA, as stated above. As far as global-capable Droids, there's the Droid Pro and the Droid 2 Global.

Don't want a Motorola, prefer HTC and Sense interface

too little too late with this one. i was really excited for this phone at the end of last year but there's just too many newer, dual core, 4g phones coming out soon. htc is really screwing up thei execution with their "new" phones this year. so much so that LG and Motorola are becoming viable candidates again for most people.

It looks like a black version of the G2, from T-Mobile. It's the qwerty board, and 4G.

The phone may not say Verizon on it... but that seems to be Verizon's notification bar.

I've been looking forward to this phone. I've wanted a physical QWERTY because I'm not partial to looking at the back of my fingers when I type or play games. Also, was interested in the screen size... I have a 3.2" Eris (that also happens to be running Gingerbread) and would like to upgrade on my screen real estate. Coworkers of mine have 4' and 4.3' displays and I just find them to be too large. 3.8" sounds like a sweet spot for me.

I might even overlook the fact that Verizon seems to have gimped this phone in favor of the Thunderbolt.

I swear this looks like my G2 sans the optical joystick (and hopefully sans the Rooted stock android build). Just gave it a black paint job, HTC Sense. I like though. I always wondered what would make them.

They're referring to the PR image on the left. The Verizon branded one on the right is an older spy photo
