HTC may be losing interest in Windows Phone

0. phoneArena 13 Aug 2013, 09:23 posted on

In the U.S., Windows Phone numbers may not be all that impressive, but globally the platform is still growing at a very respectable clip. In the recent numbers that showed Android with 80% of the global market, it also showed Windows Phone with about 9%, which was a solid increase from last year when the platform had 5.6%. Still, a new report says that HTC may not want to keep going with WP...

Ya their designs are great
and windows phone with HTC One's design bundled with some of HTC's new features like blinkfeed, zoe etc will be awesome
not a fan of ultra pixel though...

Looks great in design? Dude, if you research this subject a bit more, you can find out that ALL HTC designs have been almost direct copycats. HTC doesn't design anything. It copies other "hit" devices and then modify it a bit and claim it orignal design. HTC One is a good example of that. It is iPhone copy with slight modifications.

HTC Windows phones have strong influence from Nokia devices.

HTC - Silently stealing

So the Lumias like the 920 are completely fresh designs? Try an oversized ipod nano. That the first thing most said when they were unveiled, and I agreed the first time I picked one up.

I heard somewhere that it was Microsoft who is actually forced to design 8X similar to other WP's. I think they want all windows phone to look identical.
and
by the way i am tired of this whole copy thing
right iPhones back side may look identical to HTC one's front and blackberry z10 also may looks identical to htc one (but z10 & one announced almost same time, according to gsmarena htc one announced -2013 feb and z10 announced -2013 Jan)
But who cares?? Average people wont recognize and they doesn't care.
Anybody can identify HTC One if it put side by side to z10 & iPhone.
even if HTC did inspired/copied from iPhone, still they put it into good use
and in my opinion HTC One looks, way better than iPhone 5 .(i like iPhone 4 design language better).
nowadays copying/inspiring is common thing so its no big deal at all.

I saw a forum the other day that was discussing if the creator of The Walking Dead plagiarized Romero's Dawn of the Dead. They were asserting that he had created the Zombie Apocalypse genre. Now if that really is the case, and whoever came up with a story concept or genre first owned the rights and no one else could do anything with it, we'd have 1/1000th of the TV, movies, songs, and books that we currently have. Unless they do a direct copy they really need to drop this copying thing. Inspiration for the iphone, z10, lumia, and on & on, most likely came from outside sources as well. With the new Impala looking close enough to the Taurus that I need to look for badging to tell them apart, and no lawsuits are brought, other industries need to follow suit.

That makes sense to me. When I first heard of the 8X, I could've sworn that it was a Lumia device. The resemblance is more than meets the eye.

Hey Micheal H, check your units in the referenced chart. It's not 5.6% or 9%, it's millions shipped.

Well, they are losing both android and Windows phone markets.

In Q2 they had only 5% of Windows phone market. Its clear that people are not buying HTC phones whether its android or WP.

Too bad, they made very good devices like HTC ONE and 8x. The past mistakes are haunting them very badly. They did not try to create brand image when they were making record profits every quarter in 2010 and 2011.

Even the HTC ONE is not saving them.

All the best HTC.

HTC already got replaced by SAMSUNG as No. 2 windows phone manufacturer
as now samsung captures 11.5% market share in windows phone segment..

And this make me wonder because as we all already know that Samsung is not releasing too many WP phones but still can capture more market than HTC have..

They should have been more aggressive in there push. Only reasons Nokia and windows phone are thriving are because Nokia keeps launching devices. They support it heavily. Low end and high end. And they spend wads of cash on marketing.

HTC has not. They have released 3 different models on windows phone 8, and while they are good phones, they don't market, they leave that to me and the carrier. Sprint won't advertise their model at all, Verizon won't, and the 8x is too old for att to keep putting in commercials because Nokia released the 1020.

idk why HTC expects returns if they don't put in the effort.

I would relate it more to "bang for your buck". Since launch, people on AT&T have been able to get a 32GB Lumia 920 for the same price as the 8GB HTC 8x. When you take into account that it has 4x the storage, a better camera, a better selection of apps (manufacturer specific apps), wireless charging, and it's built like a brick s***house... Why would you even get the 8x? That's the real reason they haven't been selling.

And people prefer nokia when it comes to WP
HTC does make great stunning looking devices but nokia with their superior camera tech,Lumia exclusives,Nokia's marketing and their support makes HTC and others tough to compete
nokia rule wp market

HTC is losing interest in Windows Phone. Well it looks like everybody is losing interest in HTC these days.....

But HTC will spend a billion $ to try to catch us up. They should take that money and invest it in an MicroSD slot for the HTC One and maybe bigger batteries.

Everybody? How can you say that, while WP is gaining market share everywhere? HTC is just a copycat and runs after easy money. Such a cheap follower.

He said absolutley nothing about people losing interest in WP, he said HTC was losing interest in WP, and the public was losing interest in HTC. I take it there are no reading comprehension apps on WP yet.

Yo Altair;
How is HTC a copycat when HTC introduced SMARTPHONES bro!!!
If anything, everyone is copying HTC since they were coming out with smartphones years before your precious Apple and Samsung.
Check facts, then talk.

This article is wrong!! I checked the referenced article and its chart. It's not 9%, but it's 9 millions MS phones shipped!! Nokia's Q2 2013 marketshare is less than 4%.
